This spacious villa is ideally situated on a large property at the dead-end of a private road. Only 10 minutes walk to downtown Montreux and the Jazz Festival; the property overlooks the Lake Geneva and the Alps.
Constructed in 1959, this unique villa has many distinctive architectural features, including an open concept entrance, kitchen and dining area. The entire living space is conveniently situated on the same level, no stairs. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and a seperate library/den. Two large guest bedrooms are situated in a more private wing of the villa.
The south patio off the living room and the west patio off the kitchen highlight the gardens and surroundings. There is ample space for parking in front of the house and one place in the garage. A separate caretaker apartment (not for rent) is located in the basement level.
Magnificent panoramic views dominate the south facing property in all directions. The extensive gardens include rose beds, a small orchard, berry and herb gardens, and many mature trees. A large portion of the garden including the in-ground pool are enclosed by a link fence, secure for small children and pets. There is also a “Boule” court, often used in the summer for croquet.

This Swiss Villa was the principal residence of the famous British author A.J. Cronin (Dr. Finlay's Casebook, The Keys of the Kingdom, The Citadel). The property has remained in the Cronin family ever since. As the third generation owner, I am the grandson of A.J. Cronin. After a long career in international marketing, I now teach business strategy as a university professor locally in Switzerland and in Canada. My hobby is restoring old motorcycles.
When my mother, our 12-year old niece, our son, his wife, my husband, our dog, and I arrived to move into David’s home for 4 days around New Year’s Eve, we were overwhelmed by it. The feel of the home is open, spacious, and elegant. However, most importantly, it feels like a home and not a vacation rental. Having it all on one level also made it easier for my 88-year old mother. It is the best-equipped house I have ever rented--with all of the necessities needed for living there (including a cheese fondue caquelon that David kindly acquired especially for our use) and top-of-the-line appliances. Everything in the home was in exquisite condition. And unlike many vacation rentals that may have everything you need, there is no clutter. The cupboards in the bedrooms are empty and, therefore, available to the renters.
Since we were visiting in winter, we were not able to take advantage of the outdoor facilities, but did use the Weber grill and our dog enjoyed sitting outside on the patio after returning from his walks. It was also obvious to us that the garden and pool were cared for in the same loving way as the inside of the home.
David, who was away during our stay, was extremely accommodating and made communications and rental procedure easy. He made sure, for instance, that the den was set up as a fourth bedroom for our niece. He also made himself available via email and phone during our stay. However, all went so smoothly that we had no need to communicate with him.
Even in the winter, there is plenty to do and see in the area. During our stay the weather was too foggy to make a trip up to the Rochers-de-Naye or Les Pleiades worthwhile. Therefore, we took a trip to Gruyère to see cheese being made and to the Cailler chocolate exhibit in Le Broc, both about a ½-hour drive from the house. On another day we went skating in Vevey at the Patinoire (covered ice rink--open during the winter months). On our last day when the weather still hadn’t improved, we went to the indoor Aquaparc in Le Bouveret, a great hit with our 12-year old niece. On the way home from there, we drove by Château Chillon. Although we didn’t make it to visit the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, it is only a ½-hour drive from the house. Due to the secluded location of the house, a car is a must.
We enjoyed 4 memorable days in Amelie and David’s home. We want to thank them for sharing it with us and encourage anyone looking for a place to stay on the Montreux Riviera to consider their home.
I spent about 2 weeks at this villa with 5 family members enjoying a short vacation during July 2015. The villa is every bit as advertised if not better. I give it 5 stars. But I give 5+ stars for the owners, David and his lovely wife Amélie. They go the extra mile to make you feel home even if you are away from home. Strongly recommended for those who want spent a quite vacation with family and friends. Car is a must. I will definitely come back when I visit the area again with my family.
This is simply a lovely place to stay. My husband and I and two friends stayed for seven nights to enjoy the Jazz Festival. As much as we loved the festivities associated with the festival, it was great to have a real home to enjoy at the end of the day. Actually, there were days we never left the house. The weather was unusually hot so the pool and tranquility of the gardens were a welcome oasis. The owners were on-site during our stay, so were there to assist us but were completely unobtrusive. Exceptionally nice place with exceptionally gracious hosts. We hope to return soon!
I spent a few days at the house with 4 of my friends, the weather was awesome, so we could take advantage of the big goergeous garden and the pool. The garden is like a park with a perfect view over the lake. It was a really nice time, in the evening we were all cooking toghether and having diner, the other day we made a barbecue. The house is huge and you really can feel the warm-loving atmosphere of the house. I strongly recommend it for everybody who wants to spend some time with friends or the family, it is defenetly a place were a group of people can enjoy their holidays together. Rooms and bathrooms were clean, kitchen well equiped, Internet. We celebrated a long weekend of a friend who was going to marry and it was wonderful to spend this time in such a beautiul place.
