Self-catering apartment, close to beach with picture-postcard views

This luxurious 3 bed 2 bath penthouse apartment with large roof terrace is a real gem. Newly built, it is furnished to a very high standard and is located just four minutes walk from the tiny fishing cove of Mavarcica. The expansive roof terrace offers stunning panoramic views across the cove and is a fantastic place to relax, unwind and enjoy your holiday. Roof terraces like ours are unusual on Ciovo and this makes our apartment quite unique. Extending to 50m2, it is shared by only 2 apartments (ours and one other). The roof terrace is "divided" by 3 wooden plantars into two halves. Our half of the terrace has a large square wooden table that comfortably seats 6-8 people. Perfect for enjoying breakfast outdoors or an evening meal. It also has a wrought iron daybed with mattress and pillows covered in sailcloth - a great place to curl up and read a book while enjoying the sea views. If the other apartment that shares the roof terrace with us is free during your stay, you have the full use of the terrace. If you are looking for some shade, the balcony off the main living space has a rattan/glass table with 4 chairs and is a perfect place for enjoying lunch while gazing at the azure blue sea. It also has a gas BBQ. The popular resort village of Okrug Gornji, with all its amenities is only 7-8 minutes walk away.

Spend your days wandering around the intricate cobbled streets of Trogir, try the local market, spend a day sailing between the islands, visit the waterfalls at Krka National Park..... or choose to relax on the roof terrace soaking in the view! The choice is yours.

What airport will get me close: SPLIT AIRPORT: Ciovo is a mere 15 minute drive/taxi from Split airport. Split airport is served by many low cost airlines. Flight time from the UK & Ireland to Split is about 2 1/2 hours.

ZADAR AIRPORT: Zadar is a small airport north of Trogir. RyanAir flies directly to Zadar from Ireland (Dublin) and the UK (London Stansted). It is about a 1hr 15 mins drive from Zadar to the apartment and most of this is on the A1 motorway. There is a toll of approx 5 euro each way.

How to get to the apartment: BUSES & TAXIS: There is a regular bus service between the airport, Trogir and Split. A taxi for 4 people from the airport to the apartment should cost no more than 30 euro.

PRIVATE TRANSFERS: We have a local driver who can collect you at Split, Zadar or Dubrovnik airport and transport you to the apartment for an additional cost (prices available on request).

CAR HIRE: Car hire is readily available and all the major international car hire firms have a presence in Split, Zadar and Dubrovnik airports. If you are arriving by car, directions to the apartment will be sent upon confirmation of booking.

About Hilary Cronin

My husband Stephen and I fell in love with Croatia when we visited in 2007. We spent 2 weeks travelling between Dubrovnik and Zadar and decided on the flight home to Ireland that we would like to buy there. So we did just that in 2008 when we bought 2 apartments on the island of Ciovo, near Trogir. It was also the year we got married so just a little chaotic! We love to spend our holidays in Croatia, travelling with friends and family or just with our own children. It is an idyllic place to vist and we still love it 10 years later!

Why Hilary Cronin chose Okrug Gornji

The large roof terrace is what sets this property apart from other holiday rentals on the island. When it was built in 2008, it was the only apartment building on the island with a roof terrace (we know this because all the local builders came up to have a look!). The roof terrace is shared with only one other apartment (2 bedroomed apartment owned by family members so if you have a large group it is possible to rent both apartments and have exclusive use of the terrace!).

The apartment was at first fix stage when we viewed it first. I still remember climbing the half finished staircase, clinging to the wall for dear life. When we got to the top and saw the spectacular views over the sea and nearby islands, we were speechless. We both instantly knew there was something very special about this apartment. So we took a chance and put down a deposit and the rest as they say is history. We love staying here as never tire of the stunning views. One of my favourite things to do when in Croatia is to sit on this roof terrace in the early morning with a book and a cup of tea, soaking in the view while listening to the church bells ringing in the distance. Even writing this now makes me smile as it is such an evocative memory for me.

  • The main bathroom is equipped with a large power shower, toilet and sink. The en-suite off the master bedroom also has a power shower, toilet and sink. *IMPORTANT NOTE* Over the last few years, during peak season (August particularly) there has been an issue with the water supply on the island. Apartment buildings built without a water tank (such as this apartment and many more on the island), can have problems with their water supply in the evening. It seems to be sporadic and depends on the number of tourists on the island at any one time. It can cause anything from low pressure in the taps to a complete lack of water (shower, taps, toilets) and typically occurs in the evening (usually between 6-9pm but can vary). As we have never stayed in July/Aug I cannot give you first hand information. We have stayed in April, May, June and September and have never had an issue with the water. I have reduced the prices in July and August to reflect this.

Family trip to Okrug / Trogir

We arrive at saturday. The apartment was clean and straight.

The furniture was standard. The rooms was big enough.

The location was ok. It was still. The way to the main beach was about 15 Minutes by foot.

The beach was also clean. There are a lot of bars with Wifi.

The contact to renter was very quicky.

There was only one problem. Every evening beginn at 6 or 7 o`clock pm there was no potable water available. Therefore we have to use bottle for storage water. Normally the water was available at 10 till 11 o`clock pm.

Very nice place

Family travelled by a car spent a marvelous week in Mavarcica. Contacts and arrangements before a trip were fluent and polite, and contact person (Bozena) in destination was nice and helpfull. Surroundings were nice, restaurants were good, apartment was clean and stylish, climate, see, people... Highly recommended!

Amazing roof terrace, Lovely apartment

We spent a lovely week at this apartment, the accommodation is clean and modern, spacious with all the mod cons. Breakfast on the terrace was very nice looking out over the sea was a brilliant start to the day. We went on a two island boat trip which was really good fun, lunch was included and we were entertained by two men singing A good full day out. The water taxi to Trogir is the best way to get there and there are plenty of nice restaurants to choose from, they run every 15 minutes with the last one about 11 pm. We got the ferry from the other side of the island direct to Split rather than going To Trigor it is advisable to check the times of these ferries as when we went they were running every 3 -4 hours. We hired a car and went to Kraka waterfalls - on the way abck we drove the coastal route which has stunning views ...We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were not disappointed with any thing and look forward to going back .

We really enjoyed our week in croatia the description was very accurate and the balcony/terrace was a major plus as we had it all to ours selves due to the residents in the other villa never using it. The property was clean and well maintained and we had very good customer service from the beginning of a trip to the end. I would recommend this property to anyone as although there was no pool the sea was only a 5 minute walk away so this was never an issue. As it was a girls holiday we made great use of the boat taxi going to and from Trogir as this has a lot more going on than where we were. However we went to many of the local restaurants which where all very nice. The only bad thing we came across was that we booked a trip that had been sold to us as a boat tour, however when we arrived it was a bus tour and the company would not take responsibility for it claiming that it was out fault and it couldn't possibly be them that had made a mis-communication mistake. So all i would say is make sure you know exactly what you are getting as they do try and tell you what you want to hear not what the trip actually is.

Ein rundum gelungener Urlaub!

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Urlaub und haben uns sehr gut erholt.

Die Wohnung ist wirklich wunderschön und sehr komfortabel. Die Klimaanlage funktionierte einwandfrei und die Ausstattung der Küche war sauber und sehr gepflegt. Besonders toll ist der Getränkekühlschrank. Dadurch hat man genug Kühlmöglichkeiten. Die Bettwäsche und die Handtücher wurden jeden Samstag gewechselt und die Matrazen auf den Betten scheinen noch sehr neu zu sein. Man konnte super schlafen. Wir hatten 3 Wochen tolles Wetter, nichtmal ein Regenschauer, dadurch war die Klimaanlage Gold wert. Die Terrasse ist wirklich riesig mit wunderschönem Meerblick. Es fehlt ein bißchen an Bepflanzung für die Gemütlichkeit, aber Bozena macht das schon. Sie hat versprochen das nächstes Jahr allen blüht und grünt. Leider haben wir Bozena nur einmal gesehen, weil ihr Kind zu der Zeit im Krankenhaus war (von uns aus nocheinmal gute Besserung). Wir wurden sehr nett von ihr empfangen und haben Schinken, Käse, Wein und Wasser zur Begrüßung bekommen. Auch die Lage der Wohnung war optimal, der Steinstrand ist fußläufig genauso schnell zu erreichen wie der lebendige Kiesstrand. Man braucht etwa 10 Min. in beide Richtungen. Am Strand war fast jeden Abend Livemusik bei frisch gegrilltem Fisch und leckerem Wein. Das sollte man sich nicht entgehen lassen. Am Kiesstrand gibt es viele nette Bars für den Tag und die Preise waren wirklich Klasse. Für den Abend gibt es dort genug Restaurants für die Abwechslung. Zu empfehlen ist das Mali Raj am halben Berg und das Srdelija direkt am Strand. Die Stadt Trogir ist echt sehenswert, wir waren in der Zeit 4 mal dort. Mit dem Taxiboot kostet es 2 Euro und dauert etwa 12 Min. Ciovo ist ein wunderschönes Urlaubsziel und wir waren nicht das letzte mal dort und auch die Wohnung würden wir jederzeit wieder buchen. Der Kontakt zur Eigentümerin Hilary via Internet ist problemlos, so das Wünsche zur Anreise oder andere Fragen jederzeit beantwortet werden.

Wir freuen uns aufs nächste Jahr und hoffen das es wieder ein rundum gelungener Urlaub wird.

Family Holiday

We had an excellent family holiday - 2 adults and 4 'children' aged 16-26 - staying 2 weeks in late July. The location is excellent with stunning views and nearly always a breeze off the sea. The use of the terrace was a valued extra space, particularly given the lack of air conditioning in the third bedroom. The apartment was clean and well equipped and we had excellent support. We were spoilt for choice re local restaurants and the evening boat trip to Trogir was a treat in itself. We enjoyed a number of the outings to local places of interest; otherwise we walked to a local bay and enjoyed snorkelling in the beautifully clear water and lying under the pine trees reading.

The old town of Trogir is a UNESCO world heritage centre and is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, full of small intimate restaurants, bars and ice-cream parlours. Lovers of cultural and historical monuments, original architecture and art can wander around at their leisure, soaking up the history. The waterfront, with its long promenade, bars and restaurants is particularly popular at night. Indulge in some celebrity spotting as luxury boats come in to moor.

SPLIT - Split is a shoppers paradise, whether wandering through the narrow cobbled streets or haggling for bargains at the large outdoor market. When you need a rest, where better to enjoy a cup of coffee than on the expansive marina looking out onto the islands of Brac and Hvar.

PRIMOSTEN, a gorgeous islet 20 minutes north of Trogir. The prefect place to spend a day exploring.

KRKA Waterfalls-enjoy a leisurely walk through the forest, spectacular views of the waterfalls and the chance to swim in the lake.

Once the final payment has been received, we will forward a welcome pack which contains information on the apartment and the local area, as well as directions to the apartment, local ferry times and recommendations for local restaurants.

Check in time is 3pm / Check out time is 11am. If you need an earlier check in or later check out, please ask. Where possible we will try to facilitate it.

If you need a cot or highchair please let us know. They are available free of charge. We also provide a welcome food pack on arrival, just to get you settled in!

On arrival at the apartment, you will be met by our English speaking representative Bozena with the keys. She will show you around the apartment and is your point of contact during your stay if any issues arise. You will need to give her a 200 euro security deposit (or kuna/sterling equivalent) when you arrive. This will be refunded on the day you leave assuming no damage/breakages.

Transport from the airport to apartment, and back again, can be arranged at a small additional cost (prices available on request).
