Chalet, 3 Bedrooms , 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)
Me (Shari) and my husband (Andy) live in Dawsonville, GA. We moved a few years ago from Johns Creek, GA-(from the suburbs to the country (sort of although they broke ground the day after we moved in and began building a Super Kroger, Publix, Marshalls, Pet Smart, etc. and all the other typical chain stores and restaurants, etc.. The city moved with us! I am originally from Atlanta & Andy is from NJ. We love to work out at Lifetime Fitness, take walks, & go to Northpoint Church. Our boys are grown, 2 boys each from previous marriages. We have 3 cats and contemplating the perfect time to get a puppy.
Owner purchased this Chalet in 2007
Why Owner chose Hiawassee
I was looking for a mountain property after my mother passed away. She was originally from Murphy, N.C. & I promised her that I would buy a place in the mountains. We lived in the suburbs of Atlanta so this would be used as a vacation home. When I walked up the stairs & looked out over the deck & saw that view, I said, 'I don't even care what the house looks like because I want this view!' Everyone that comes up to our property says the same thing, 'You've got the Million Dollar View'. It is truly spectacular. Hiawassee is truly special because it is situated around Lake Chatuge & the layered Blue Ridge Mountains. Almost anywhere you go you will have a view because there is water & mountains all around the area. I like this area also because it is one of the highest areas in Georgia (Brasstown Bald is not far). It's much higher than Helen. If you drive from Helen there is a mountain range you go over & up to get to our place. It's only about 20 miles but the higher you go the prettier. We think so anyway.
What makes this Chalet unique
We love that we are able to see the views from almost anywhere in the chalet upstairs. We can go outside & sit on the deck & watch the sunset, have our morning coffee at the kitchen island or have a conversation in the living room & still have the views. Upstairs has been completely renovated in 2018/2019. We took out the sliding glass doors that did give awesome views but now the views are even more amazing with 3 huge picture windows along the entire wall so it truly feels like the outdoors is brought inside. The chalet was cute/rustic before and now it's just plain awesome (completely transformed). Take a look at the see how cozy, rustic and at the same time modern & new the place has become. Another really cool sight is to wake up & look out & see the clouds below sitting on the lake with the blue mountains punching through the clouds. You'll be mesmerized with the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We see all kinds of wild life including black bears! One actually ran in front of us as we drove up our kept looking back as he ran to see how far back we were. He was fast and quite breathtaking! I love to watch the Pileated (huge about 18" tall) Woodpeckers with their big red tops or wild turkeys meandering around the place. It's always something new.
Canceled bookings will not receive a refund
We needed a relaxing getaway for a few days and this place could not have been better. The views from the house and deck are out of this world. The chalet is rustic and very cozy and comfortable. It is just a quick drive down the mountain to town which was nice and convenient. We definitely plan on returning next summer for a longer stay.
The view will make you not want to leave. Excellent and hope to be back soon.
Beautiful mountain top view of lake and mtns. But entry steep and treacherous & chalet was too windy
Enjoyed our stay, except for wind blowing through window a/c units and steep, treacherous earth and rotten wooden steps entry to cabin. Will not rent this venue again because of such problems.
Worked perfectly for my Army reunion
Great views but minor details need to be addressed
The views were amazing. Best part of the house. The screen door by the kitchen was broken (trouble latching it) when we arrived. The railroad ties going up to the steps are rotting away and caused us to trip multiple times. The grass needs to be cut. There is a huge nest of bees right at the bottom of steps. The Trash can lid is broken by the road, and there was a bunch of trash at the bottom of it that was not in a bag that was not ours. The trash can is way undersized for 3 adults and 2 kids for a weeks time. Also having a place for a weeks rental of a house and not being able to use the washer and dryer was kind of disappointing. The house also had a huge bug problem. Spiders every where. I am not down grading the house or the stay. I'm more just wanting to let everyone know the issues we found. I would possibly stay again
A Heavenly View
Our family (four adults, three children) spent Thanksgiving weekend at the chalet. It was homey, clean and well stocked with linens, pillows and kitchen ware. The kids enjoyed the game room on the first floor and hiking the area. My favorite was the view from the second floor. The photo's doesn't do the view justice! It is incredible!! The chalet is almost mountain top but convenient to town and the grocery store. The second floor great room with an open living room and kitchen area gives plenty of family time and space. It has one bedroom, bathroom and game room down stairs and living room. kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs. Porches run across the front on both floors with grills ready to use. Shari was very easy to work with and answered all my questions timely. I would recommend this chalet. Looking forward to returning in the future!
