Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, 7,000 sq ft. on 12 acres with 450 feet of beach

Welcome to Unicorn Cay on the Island of Eleuthera, "A place so magical surely unicorns could live here."

Many of our prior guest and friends have inquired about the impact of Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria on Unicorn Cay and Eleuthera. The island of Eleuthera was east of the direct path of Irma and west of the direct path of Maria , therefore, Unicorn Cay and the island of Eleuthera are in excellent condition and we were extremely fortunate to not have suffered damage and destruction. Our hearts go out to those in neighboring islands that were not as fortunate.

This luxurious beachfront estate sits on 12 acres with 450 feet of pink sand beach. Unicorn Cay was built by a famous English writer and explorer, Rosita Forbes. It is based on the style of a French Chateaux complete with a central courtyard and an entryway flanked by turrets.

The home was recently beautifully restored retaining the original Abaco pine floors, wood work, and native stone. The central courtyard has a covered patio overlooking the pool. The pool is heated during the winter months. Each of the four bedrooms have private entrances from the courtyard. The master also has access from the library. The large gourmet kitchen is equipped with a double Sub-Zero refrigerator, electric stove top and range, coffee nook, gathering island, and all the small appliances and utensils that you can think of. The home also offers a formal dining room, large great room with hand crafted walnut bar, laundry room, library, and media room. The numerous surrounding verandas and covered patios provide quaint areas for morning coffee or afternoon socializing.

The Unicorn Cay pink sandy beach spans 450 feet. Reefs are close by for easy snorkeling. You could walk for miles in either direction looking for beach treasures or just enjoying the incredible views. This beach is one of the most beautiful on the island. Kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and snorkel gear are all provided for your enjoyment.

Services: Housekeeping will be provided prior to arrival, after you leave, and once mid-week. (A minimum of 7 nights is needed for the mid-week cleaning.) Additional cleaning services can be arranged. A private chef can be provided upon request. A special event coordinator is available for destination wedding or group event planning. A golf cart is provided for use within the property. In addition, a back up generator and cistern will provide utilities when electricity and water go off on the island. (This is a common experience on the island.)

Rates: The base rate of $3500 (7 nights) includes rental of the main house and master suite. The main house consists of the kitchen, dining room, great room, library/media, laundry room, verandas and courtyard pool area. Included also is access to Unicorn Cay beach and the use of a golf cart within the property. Each additional guest is $70, therefore, the master and all 3 additional bedrooms (6 guest) the rate is $6440 for the week. (7 nights).

For inquiries about longer term rentals, contact Jane.

We hope to see you soon at Unicorn Cay!

Amazing property with terrific beach

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a magical time at Unicorn Cay. The property has an amazing history (read A Unicorn in the Bahamas by Rosita Forbes) and the pictures don't do the house or beach justice. As the house came into view, we couldn't believe our eyes and the interior is unbelievable. This would be a great place for families with older children or groups of friends (we are already planning a return trip). The beach was a short golf cart trip away and the views were incredible. The pool was a nice place to hang out when the winds were high or in the evening. We saw maybe 10 people in 5 days on the beach. My husband went fishing, I had a massage therapist come out, and we had a chef come out our first night after a long day of travel. The owners are on property and were wonderful resources with local info, etc. Words cannot do this place justice and we were so thankful to Scott and Jane for sharing it with us!! Highly recommended.

The property is amazing! Acres and acres of tropical paradise!

  • 5 of 5

As we reflect on our stay at Unciorn Cay, all our family can say is, when can we go back? It was beautiful and peaceful and the house had everything one could need. Our family has rented many homes over the years and this was by far the most unique. The history of the home and location make Unicorn Cay a truly special place. We have 3 girls under the age of 11 and they were thrilled with the beautiful pool and amazing beach.

We were a little worried about the rooms that weren't connected to the main part of the home (they are connected through the courtyard) and that turned out to be a major positive. People can wake up and move about the house without waking others up. The separate quarters was a huge benefit.

Also, we can't say enough about the owners Scott and Jane. They were so friendly and helpful and even spent a couple hours giving us a tour of the island showing us their favorite restaurants and beaches. This was our first time to Unicorn Cay, but not our last!

Spectacular Property & Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family of four stayed at Unicorn Cay in early August. To say that this is not your typical rental property would be an understatement. Unicorn Cay is truly unique and very "grand". Although the pictures online were really impressive, we found that it was even more impressive in person. One of the things we were slightly concerned about was that it is set back a bit from the beach. However, this ended up being a complete non-issue. Taking the golf cart to and from the beach through their awesome property was actually kind of fun and added to the overall experience. And it was also really nice having the fabulous pool to hang out at in the late afternoons.

Jane and Scott were really great hosts and were a pleasure to deal with before, during and even after our stay. They welcomed us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the property and offered plenty of recommendations for restaurants, beaches, and things to do. They even offered to show us around the island the following day, which was very nice, but we did not want to impose.

We would highly recommend Unicorn Cay to anyone visiting Central Eleuthera. It is truly a one of a kind property!

Island Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We were there with one of our daughters, her husband, and their three children. It was perfect for us! We loved having the pool right there so we could enjoy it during children's nap time. The golf carts were awesome to load up the wonderful chairs, toys, and umbrella. The beach was beautiful!!! The little ones even went snorkeling.

How can I not brag on the kitchen. It had everything we could ever need.

It was quiet, nice and clean. We lead a busy life and the small restaurants were great and fun. Sherman was a treasure of information. Jersey great, too. I hope to return there. Thank you for sharing your paradise with us.

Exceeded our Expectations

  • 5 of 5

While sipping coffee one cold late winter Sunday morning I found myself seeking an adult Spring Break and this one jumped off the page.

Having traveled numerous times to the "Family Islands" over the past 20 years we've had great vacations in both the Exumas and Abacos, as well as Harbour Island but never on Eleuthera proper. After viewing a few properties we kept coming back to Unicorn Cay. In fact we read and re-read the descriptions and viewed the pictures numerous times before sending Jane our requested dates, because after all you don't often find a French Chateau smack dab in the middle of a Bahamian Island.

It was an ease to work with Jane and aided by her rapid response, we had made all arrangements by the end of that cold Sunday thus beginning our Bahama Day Dreaming.

The estate home was as advertised and makes a solid impression as you drive through the gates from Banks Road. Amazing from the outside are the grounds which offer the perfect blend of flowering plants, assorted palms, and some "island art" making use of flotsam and jetsam and some well place assorted lawn ornaments, all maintained on a daily basis.

Entering the home will impress you even more. Understanding the home was built before the modern jet age you will appreciate what it was as much as what it is now. From what we learned the home was meticulously refurbished in the early 2000's by the preceding owners who obviously spared no cost in fit and finish as well as filling it with many fine furnishings and decor. The current owners maintain a similar standard and have complimented the decor with high end soft goods and all of today's necessities of ample wireless, great sound system and SAT TV. The kitchen was tricked out with high end appliances and everything needed to provide for a gourmet meal, but as others say, the home is situated within minutes of some great culinary offerings. Although the courtyard has a gas grill which was inoperable during our stay, the Weber Kettle provided was ample for a few cheeseburgers in paradise.

We spent a few hours at the beach each day, (Chairs/Umbrellas/Toys ample) then retreated to pool after enjoying lunch in the courtyard. We saw only 5 people in 6 days on the beautiful beach. The Golf Carts do come in handy. You have options!

This is a classic estate, and while not perfect, will not disappoint.

Some of the other upscale restaurants within easy driving distance include 1648 at the French Leave, The Bistro at Sky Beach Club, or you can hire a private chef and dine in at the estate. The town of Governor's Harbour, just a few miles away has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, banks, ATMs, gift shops, , and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governer's Harbour is a street/beach party that brings together tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing. Traveling about 60 miles north on Queen's Highway takes you to the 10 minute boat ferry to the well-known Harbour Island.
