Newly Renovated Two Room Apartment Steps From 53,000 Acre Harriman State Park
About Peter Cain
Donna and I loved our old house, but thought that being right on Harriman State Park would be a game changer and it was. Whether it's a long hike or a quick 40 minutes with the dog, we get out into our beautiful part of Harriman daily. We lived in NYC and Long Island, but have been Rockland based for many years now and love it.
Peter Cain purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Peter Cain chose Suffern
The main house is a brick Georgian colonial built in the 1920s as the main house for a large family estate. Today the estate's stone barns are the nearby residences of our friends and neighbors and the Mahwah River runs through it all. We loved the pretty stone garage (which predates the house) and decided to renovate the apartment as we really enjoyed sharing our other house - also historic -- with people who appreciate it as we do. We look forward to helping guests take full advantage of our amazing location.
What makes this Cottage unique
The secluded location with a choice of more gentle paths or challenging hiking right out your door is pretty unique! And all just 30 minutes from the George Washington Bridge.

Loved the stone cottage and area
We booked this cottage online and it was everything the site advertised. The cottage is quaint, tastefully decorated and very cozy. Everything you need is there. The yard and surrounding area makes you feel like it’s your own. Great trails.
Adorable, Cozy, and Quiet Retreat
I took a weekend of solitude for a birthday gift to myself, and was able to successfully soul-search in peace thanks to this incredible cottage. Peter and Donna are wonderful hosts, and always available if you need anything (and their dogs will be very happy to meet you as well). The location can't be beat - literally right on the edge of the park - so you feel surrounded by nature but also not entirely cut off from civilization if you so choose. The bed is also insanely comfortable (like, I slept 12+ hours both nights) and the kitchen is perfect for cooking your own meals.
This was an extremely fulfilling and relaxing trip, and this was the perfect place to take it. I hope to return!
Wonderful romantic getaway spot
Easy communication to arrive and leave and everything we needed for a special weekend away. Great location in the hudson valley so we could do easy, scenic drives. Thanks for a welcoming stay.
Sleepy little cottage
We needed a last minute location near New York, and this place was perfect. It was back in the woods a bit, very cozy, very sleepy, and it immediately felt like a second home. A very beautiful location and very convenient for us, we will definitely be back.
