I am a professor at UCSD. I am a single mother with 3 kids, twin boys age 14 and a daughter age 11.
Karen purchased this house in 1995
I live in this house most of the year, but would like to rent it when I am out of town.
My house is beautiful inside and out, and staring out at an unobstructed ocean view brings much peace and relaxation
10 of us stayed here for a beach house vacation and it was one of the most majestic houses we've ever stayed at. The layout of the house was like a dream house with a lovely view of the ocean. The house even had lovely swing in the backyard, which felt magical. It was minutes away from the beach and the owner was very wonderful and accommodating to work with. Would recommend this house to anyone!
9 of us stayed here over Thanksgiving this year. There were more than enough bedrooms, bathrooms and space. The interior decorating was beautiful. Outside, the kids loved playing on the rope swing and tree house. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. The only thing I would be aware of is that there are a lot of stairs, so if you have trouble going up and down stairs, I think you may need to look elsewhere. Other than that, only positive things to say.
My wife, 18 and 16 year olds stayed at this wonderful property this past July 2012. By background, my wife and I are Arizonians (Zonies) who escape the heat each summer and move up and down the California coast searching and staying in interesting houses. This was definitely one of those.
The owner was wonderful to work with and was very responsive to our questions during our search stage and in having the house ready for us upon arrival. Fresh cut flowers, some chilling wine ...you get the picture. Mi Casa Su Casa.
The house is AMAZING, great use of vibrant colors, room decorated with a consisent theme throughout. The house is comprised of 5 floors (although 1 floor is a half floor, 6 if you count the rooftop patio) each seemingly different but somehow injecting the same mood, which I call California Cool. While there were only 4 of us staying, this home could accomodate large groups or family reunions without any trouble. The views on Mount Soledad faced the Pacific Ocean, was adjacent to La Jolla Coutry Club (no views) and overlooked La Jolla. The closest landmark for people familiar with the area would be above Ralphs on Pearl.
The house was well equiped with all of the things needed for a stay. I am a serious cook on vacations and the normally bring my own knives and spices to not be disappointed. No need to do that here. A great place to cook, overlooking the Ocean and in the middle of everything with the open and spacious floor plan.
The bedrooms were all well equiped and very pleasing with all of the modern updates which we usually search for. The pictures of the website are fairly representative of the house, but really can not communicate the 3D view when you are their.
The patios were wonderful, all 6-7 of them...yes that many (the owner may need to correct my count). On top of the house a large expansive view of La Jolla, the master, another high view overlooking the ocean, then main floor had a large patio facing the ocean and 2 or 3 others next to bedrooms and the music room, and down on the lowest floor had another one shaded. We moved from patio to patio during our stay and throughout the day, depending if we wanted some alone time or just to get a different vibe since the height and layout made it seem like you were at a resort where you could get an immediate mood change by wandering off to a different part of the grounds.
Yes the home is memorable and totally unique, reflecting a truly interesting owner
The house is up on Soledad mountain, about 0.5 miles from the beach as the crow flies. It has an amazing view of the quaint village of La Jolla as well as a 180 degree unobstructed view of the ocean. The house is luxurious in every way, with a lot of attention to design detail. Everyone who sees my house, absolutely loves it!
