What an absolutley fantastic home!! The house was extremely clean, and the fireplace was wonderful. The views are great, especially looking up at the stars - truly amazing. We can't wait to get back to the northwoods and enjoy the summer months - fishing, rafting and tubing.
We've stayed in a number of VRBOs and loved them all, but this one tops our list. The house is beautiful, constructed with care and pride by the owners from trees on the property. It's designed with several spots for peaceful relaxation, all overlooking the river below: a hammock, the open back porch, the screened-in porch, the campfire area, and the cozy living room. The house is deceptively spacious (particularly taking into account the bunkhouse), and it was spotlessly clean and well-appointed. The caretaker/property manager lives across the street, and is available for any questions, needs, and even moral support :). The owner happened to be in town while we were there, and generously offered the use of his kayaks - even transporting us to the put-in area. We took advantage of many of his recommended area activities, including hiking at Goodman Park, swimming at Twin Bridges, and visiting Gov Thompson State Park. The Wild Iris is definitely off the beaten path, with the nearest town a 20-30 minute drive and a small section of gravel road only. This was exactly what we were looking for, but may be a drawback for some. Other small considerations that were irrelevant for us, but perhaps important to others: there's no air conditioning, but the nights were cool even on the hottest days; there's no dishwasher or wifi; and access to bedrooms involved a large flight of stairs. Overall, I would highly recommend this house and location for a vacation filled with beauty and relaxation. Heartfelt appreciation to Brett and Lynne for sharing their "up north" retreat with us.
Wild Iris had the modern amenities, yet the rustic serenity we were looking for. As always, the photos don't do the cottage justice: it is roomier than it appears and very well laid out so every inch of space is well utilized. Our family of 8 (five adults, three kids) fit very comfortable. We opted for nearby lakes/beaches over the flowage accessible via the property. Owners provided everything we could have needed!
We're so glad that we picked the Wild Iris as our vacation cabin rental. It did not disappoint. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked with the small comforts of home. The same goes for the chocked full linen closet for that piece of mind incase something was forgotten. Communication was great with the homeowner and the property manager greeted us upon arrival. The cabin was immaculate and very well appointed. Our 16 yr old son claimed the basement room with the flat screen TV. Fishing during our stay was the goal and every effort was made to assist us. We would definitely recommend and return to this secluded piece of heaven in the Northwoods.
Had three generations up there this time, ages 10 to 75, and it was perfect for everyone. Rode bikes, played bocce balls, fished, cooked, hiked in the State Park up the road, rafted down the river, and ate s'mores until we almost exploded.... Stocked up in Crivitz, and unplugged ourselves for the next four days- thank you, again, Brett and Lynne, for creating the environment where memories are shared for a lifetime.
See you next year!
The Lawsons and Mitchells
We almost cancelled. The week before our scheduled holiday, I watched my dear friend and mother or three take her last few breaths of life. It seemed wrong to go away, and leave everyone else to deal with the logistics of losing a loved one..... In the end, we decided to turn inward, in a way that can only be done when there is silence and a river that lets thoughts and memories roll on through.... So life affirming. So healing. So needed. Thank you, Brett and Lynne, for all your attention to detail, for the lending of the fly rods, and for giving us the space to come together as a family, and hold each other tight. Life is so very precious, and this is the kind of place that reminds you of just that.
