great location. simple, clean. would prefer to see natural cleaning supplies around house....dont like chemical versions.
Great house located close to downtown Bend. The place is spotless and clean. With just the right kind of homey feel. Nice new kitchen appliances. We were in Bend while the snow was still deep on the ground so we didn't get to enjoy the nice fenced yard. We all agreed it would be great to come back and stay here in the summer. Fantastic house and good communication from the owner. Thanks
First, let me say that Eric is a very responsive and responsible host. He was easy to contact and eager to help with any problems. I called him once about the heating problem (see below) and he offered to come over and help if we couldn't resolve it. That we didn't take him up on the offer was due to the fact that we had two able husbands on hand who weren't about to admit to our wives that we couldn't fix it ourselves!
Re the house, it was adequate for five people though a bit tight due to the layout. The 3 bedrooms are spacious compared to the living/dining/kitchen area, which runs the length of the house but is a bit narrow. The real selling point of the house is the location, which was the main factor in our choosing it. As the site says, you can "walk everywhere"--or you could under normal weather conditions. Unfortunately, during our stay the streets and sidewalks were sheer ice, so much so that even getting from the house to our car was treacherous. In short, we couldn't walk anywhere and had to drive even the shortest distances. This wasn't Eric's fault, but resulted in the house being somewhat over-priced for its ability to meet our needs.
The heating was a problem from the get-go. The thermostats were not responsive and the two gas fireplaces were somewhat temperamental and difficult to operate with the remotes. We managed, but it took some doing.
In summary, if you were renting the house in the summer months or any time when you could walk to your destinations and didn't have to rely on the heaters, this would be an ideal house for up to 5, possibly even 6, people. It has a charming exterior and a lovely deck off the back (which we couldn't use because it was snowed and iced in) that would be wonderful for barbecues or just hanging out. Our 4-star rating reflects its drawbacks under far-from-normal or ideal circumstances. For a summer stay it might well rank a 5. Thanks, Eric, for everything.
Really enjoyed staying here - the house has so much space, the living area with the fireplace is nice for spending time in, and each room has an individual heater to stay warm. We walked downtown very easily (even with all the snow!) and the house has lots of cute restaurants and coffee shop in under a 5 minute walk. Owner was great to work with, no issues getting in the house or with any appliances. Place was very clean. Would easily stay there again!
The house is very cute and the beds were comfortable. The location was great. However, the oven was so discustingly dirty it set off the smoke alarm. There was a tear in the bottom bed sheet in the master. Screens, fans and around the edges of the floor were dirty. I felt it needed a very deep cleaning. The heating fire place in the master didn't work right. We called Eric about this and he came the next day and showed us how to make it work, but I'm not sure it was ever right. The fan would run for hours after the flame was turned off.
