Lochgilphead House Rental Photos and Description

Lovely 2 Bed/2 Bath STB 4* modern sunny house in outstanding location near Oban

Mullach Dubh (pronounced Doo!) is a beautiful modern two bedroom two bathroom house in the prestigious Marina village of Craobh Haven (pronounced Croov!), near Oban. Our sunny light spacious home with its open plan living, well equipped kitchen and sunny garden is a perfect holiday home for families, couples and friends. We have Scottish Tourist Board 4* quality standard.

The tiny village of Craobh Haven, right on the sea with spectacular sunsets and views, is ideally situated midway between Oban and Lochgilphead in arguably the most stunning part of Argyll, with its amazing scenery, sea lochs, Hebridean islands, hills and moors, ancient history, art galleries and excellent shops, wonderful locally produced meat, fish, seafood and vegetables and first class restaurants.

Mullach Dubh - Living: Our beautiful new modern family home has been lovingly refurbished, redecorated, refurnished and re-carpeted to meet the highest sophisticated modern standards

The open plan living area is spacious, clean, warm and bright throughout - with sun pouring in from the large windows to the front and back, giving views to its namesake -Mullach Dubh- the bracken and heather 'tweed tapestry' hillside behind

The furniture is all brand new, exceptionally comfortable and decked with cushions and cosy throws. There is an open log fire with full log and coal baskets. With have free broadband wifi, a good library of books, DVDs, CDs, videos and books.

The solid wood dining table has 6 generous places and the chairs have padded cushions for maximum comfort. Views to the garden and hills beyond can be enjoyed whilst dining

The kitchen is newly fitted out with new white goods and worktops. As we are keen cooks we have ensured that it is fully equipped to suit every cook's needs, with quality cookware and table ware

Mullach Dubh - more Living: Upstairs is a double bedroom with en-suite shower room. The second bedroom has double or twin beds and there is a large family bathroom. All bedlinen is exceptionally good 100% cotton and there are plenty of fluffy towels. The new wardrobes and cupboards have loads of storage space and masses of hangers. The cot can be located in either bedroom.

The whole house is full of stunning examples of local artists', photographers' and craftspeople's work to complete the finishing touches to this beautiful and sophisticated holiday home.

The south facing garden catches the sun all day long and is a real sun trap, and there is a good supply of garden furniture, sun loungers and BBQ. The terrace offers spectacular views to Mullach Dubh, with its ever changing light

Craobh Haven: The village and marina were built some 25 years ago; the harbour created by ingeniously joining together a few small islands with a causeway, giving a stunning walk with frequent sightings of seals, sea birds, otters and eagles. There are wonderful views to the many Inner Hebridean islands and the famous Corryvreckan, the world's third largest whirlpool. Fishing boats work from the harbour and fresh seafood can be bought straight from the boats.

The Lord of the Isles pub has been newly taken over and refurnished, serves excellent food and is a WiFi internet point. Its windows and terrace offer spectacular views across the marina's many boats and harbour to the sea and islands beyond. The perfect place to 'ooh and aaah' at the unbelievable beautiful sunsets!

The village shop is well stocked and The Giving Tree gift shop/art gallery has successful exhibitions of professional local artists' work. The Lunga Riding Stables offer natural horsemanship from beautiful Appaloosa horses.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Thank you for the prompt return of the deposit on Mullach Dubh.

Eve and I had a marvellous time - much helped by the extraordinarily good weather. The locals were all looking a bit surprised by the mediterranean temperatures!

The house more than met our expectations. Every consideration was given to make our stay comfortable, and we could not possibly think of anything that you had not thought of already that we might need.

We appreciated the attention to the detail of the furnishings and general household equipmment.Lovely tapestry in the frame.

We particularly liked the aspect of the house with the lovely garden and having the great food at the Lord of the Isles was a bonus.

Thank you Jo for making it so clean and welcoming

Beautiful harbour setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely four day stay at Mullach Dubh - the cottage has everything you need - comfortable furniture, very well-equipped kitchen and cleanliness. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. You have a marina, pub, little shop and great walks on your doorstep and the sunsets were amazing. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone - it was an ideal size for two people.

We did trips to Isle of Mull, Isle of Seil (including Ellenabraich and Easdale) and Glencoe and loved them all. There are also plenty of small villages/towns to visit around Craobh Haven. We would definitely return to this area as there was so much to see and do and it certainly is a beautiful part of the country.

The owners of the cottage were very helpful during booking and gave us plenty of useful information.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for such a wonderful review, we're absolutely delighted that you loved our beautiful family home, Mullach Dubh. We try to do everything we can to ensure our visitors have the best possible stay, and we're so pleased this was the case for you. You chose the very best places to visit, what a lot of treats! Although we quite agree with you that Mullach Dubh is ideal for two people, we often have very happy large families of 6, plus babies, staying - and they also believe it is a perfect size for them!! So we hope we have a wonderfully versatile home. Hope to see you back in Craobh again.

Sweet Stay

  • 4 of 5

The home was lovely. We got there after a beautiful drive from Edinburgh. There was a bottle of wine & these delicious oatmeal treats that we used the next day for our tour of the islands. The home was cozy & comfortable. We loved the Pub down the street & the food & service was excellent. The Giving Tree is an adorable store. We woke up early & walked the paths while others slept. Truly thank you for such a great stay to end out trip!!

Gorgeous area!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much Louisa and Mandy for a wonderful vacation! You suggestions and directions to places in the area were so helpful. We had everything we needed in the apartment (thank you for the scones and wine on arrival!). We loved the Lord of the Isles and the people of Craobh. It was convenient to have a little grocery store in town. Duncan was unable to take us to Corryvrecken due to a problem with his boat, but he was so apologetic. I hope he managed to get the repair done quickly, I hated to see him miss out on business. Great trip, Thanks

Delicious days in Craobh Haven

  • 5 of 5

The description was absolut accurate concerning location, layout, and facilities. The property was clean an in good condition. The customer service through the owner and housekeeper was excellent. I would recommend this property to friends in any case. We have made a lot of things, the region is beautiful. I would like to highlight is nothing special. Only the value for money in the restaurant "Lord of the Isles" is not right in my opinion.

Mullach Dubn - Delightful and Welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Mullach Dubh cottage is just as it is described, and it is an ideal spot for couples or families who want a quiet and superbly scenic location that is accessible to some of the wonderfuil country of the Argyle region. We are a family of 4 with teenage children, and we found it comfortable and very well-equipped. It is also a place that has atmosphere, with lovely artwork and attention to detail. None of that sterile rental property atmosphere here - it feels like home from home.

There is great walking on the doorstep, literally, and the access to services in Oban and other tpwns is good. The village shop is handy, and being so close to the Lord of the Isles pub is a definite advantage. There are boat tours and other acrivities available right from the Marina - we didn't actually embark, but they looked great. Hiking Ben Nevis - the highest peak in Scotland - is feasible and an amazing if tough hike - although it is a 2 hr trip to Fort William. We were blown away by the beauty of this part of Scotland!

The owners are hospitable and friendly, and we'd certainly recommend this lovely spot to others.

You'll have to come back to try out the fantastic boat trips and all the other Argyll treats on hand!! Louisa

Craobh Haven between Oban and Lochgilphead is a stunningly beautiful, peaceful tranquil marina village. It has many walks, drives, unspoilt beaches, sea, lochs and views. Arguably this area is the most beautiful in all Argyll and has the best seafood, fish and local meat in many restaurants, cafes and shops. Thriving Oban, with its busy shopping centre, restaurants, ferries to Hebridean islands, is on the way to Glencoe and Fort William. Perfect area for walking, golfing, cycling or wildlife watching. A great day out is the Mull of Kintyre boasting Macrihanish Golf Course, surfing beaches, wide golden sands, whisky trails, great food. Great location for island hopping too - all the inner and outer Hebridean islands- Mull, Iona, Skye, Islay, Jura, the Uists and many more.
