We spent an all-too-short weekend at Mulberry Tree and we can't wait to come back. The location is the perfect setting in the pastoral french countryside. Great walks and jogs in the morning through tiny villages and farmland. Then we went on our way with the guidance of Linda to a few stops each day, each better and more interesting than the last. Caves, castles, and quaint French villages. The house itself is just right for our party of 8, but I'm sure it could have slept more comfortably. Incredibly furnished with all modern conveniences. We can't wait to come back in the spring... it's already booked!
So, after one year of planning, our holiday has come and gone, but what an amazing time our entire family had at the beautiful Mulberry Tree Villa. The villa and the Dordogne region exceeded all of our expectations. We knew we were in for a treat before we arrived having corresponded by phone and email with Linda, who was incredibly helpful. She answered every inquiry and helped us a great deal with the planning of our trip. The Dordogne is a "must see" area of France if you have never been. We went canoeing down the famous Dordogne river, hiked, cycled, and visited Chateau Beynac, Marqueyssac Gardens, and Font de Gaume caves, just to name a few......... Linda helped us plan our daily outings, and had amazing tips and suggestions, which were very welcomed. The location of the villa is outstanding, beautiful, and tranquil. The villa inside has every amenity and item that you can think of, just like being in your own home. The kitchen is a chef’s dream, including all the spices needed to prepare lovely meals. We enjoyed most of our meals outside on the two beautiful patios overlooking the lovely gardens and countryside, but inside there is a big and beautiful dining area too. The bedrooms were very spacious, beautifully decorated, and have super comfortable mattresses. We all agreed, we slept better at the villa, than we do in our beds at home. The two living rooms gave everyone plenty of space to spread out and enjoy our evenings, either playing games or watching English speaking channels on the TV, or watching one of the many DVD's that Linda & George provide for your entertainment. The property is beautifully manicured and well maintained. There are so many lovely places to sit and relax among the flowers and trees. The heated swimming pool was a special treat, along with the Jacuzzi to be enjoyed after a wonderful day of sightseeing. One thing that is not to be missed is a night with Dimitri the French chef. It was one of the most incredible meals I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. So make sure you talk to Linda and make a reservation well in advance. What a wonderful week, we could have not have asked for more, except that we wish we could have stayed longer. We felt so welcomed, comfortable and relaxed, and of course we didn’t want to leave! Most of all we will miss the gracious hospitality of our hosts, Linda and George. Thank you for finding and sharing your beautiful Mulberry Tree Villa with us, and we hope to return one day soon!!
Our group of 8 was greeted warmly by Linda and given a thorough tour of the property and villa, which is set in a lovely pastoral setting in the small village of Carmensac Haut. The guest villa stems from a 17th century Abbey and has been fully renovated with modern conveniences, fixtures, and elements. The main floor has beautiful living and dining rooms (table for 16), a kitchen stocked with more than ample appliances, spices, etc, and a bedroom (queen) with it's own bathroom and living room (essentially a mini-suite). The second floor has a master suite (king) with bathroom, a bedroom (double) with ensuite bathroom, and a third ensemble of two bedrooms (king and queen) that share a bathroom. All of the beds were most comfortable and everyone was very happy with their rooms. (Note that the second floor rooms do have some slanted ceilings and the floors squeak a bit - but if you were built in the 1600s, so would you!) Wifi was solid, tho spotty in some areas (hey - 24" stone walls do not always transmit the signals!) The villa includes a wonderful patio - table for 12, etc, private washer/dryer, and direct access to the property's pool (heated) and hot tub. We spent very happy down times on the patio or in the pool area, gazing at the beautiful hills and pastures (occasionally some cows), feeding the owner's chickens scraps from the kitchen, sipping wine and cocktails and totally relaxing. The location is perfectly situated for visits to Les Eyzies, Sarlat, Le Bugue, Beynac and many of the pre-historic sites. It is also a comfortable 2 km walk along country lanes into the village of Meyrals (bakery, 2 restaurants), and we all wandered around on many strolls. The piece de resistance, however, was the owners, Linda & George, who welcomed us so warmly and made sure our comfort was their priority. They have a beautiful house on the property and were always available with assistance, local advice and tips. Plenty of parking; you need a car. We left fulfilled, but wanting more. We will return - the only question is, when!
We did so enjoy our return visit to Les Hirondelles. Linda and George were the perfects hosts helping us to relax in the most beautiful part of the Dordogne. We thoroughly enjoyed all the trips out suggested by Linda for our family and George came up trumps with the trails through the woods. It was a privilege to spend a week with you both in your wonderful home, a real treat for us all. Thank you.
Dear Linda & George,
Thanks so much for your generous hospitality during our stay at The Mulberry Tree Villa at Les Hirondelles.
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our time in your quiet piece of paradise. The Villa was wonderfully equipped, we loved the heated pool to use on cooler and especially hotter days! We all loved the tips that you gave to enhance our stay and spent each day visiting new places for us: Sarlat & its fantastic market, Belves, Limeuil, Rocamadour & the Padirac Cave, Proumeyssac Cave, Castelnaud, Beynac, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Marqueyssac Gardens...the list goes on. This will certainly be a time we will all remember with delight and we hope to have a chance to return again in the future!
With best wishes, The Australians xx
What an amazing Villa this is, the attention to detail is second to none.
We really enjoyed our stay in your beautiful Villa, such a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The decor is breathtaking with all the amenities you could ask for. The surrounding area is very picturesque, so much to see and visit, you could spend weeks here and never run out of things to do and see. Returning every afternoon and relaxing in that beautiful refreshing pool was heavenly. I will never forget the peacefulness of sitting in the garden in the mornings listening to all those beautiful birds. If you like the tranquillity of the countryside I would highly recommend this amazing Villa to anyone. Thank you Linda and George for such a Magnifique week!
We are within a short driving distance of many fascinating historical sites, such as Les Eyzies and the famous Font de Gaume caves, and the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat. There are stunning villages and Châteaux to explore as well as the Dordogne and Vezere rivers offering fishing, kayaking and canoeing. For wine enthusiasts we are close to the vineyards of the Bergerac area for wine-tasting expeditions and of course there are plenty of superb restaurants to experience the local cuisine. There is also a different local market situated in a nearby village or town for every day of the week. Sarlat throughout the summer has an extensive program of music, arts, night markets, fairs and activities for all ages. The town of Sarlat has a wonderful food market each Wednesday and Saturday. Also Le Bugue offers an organic market on Tuesday and St Cyprien on Sunday. For outdoor activities: cliff climbing, hot air ballooning, zip lining, flying, kayaking, canoeing, cycling, golfing, hiking, and hundreds of châteaux's and caves to explore.
