Aloha and Welcome to Nanea Kai. We are very proud to share our 1,800 sqr. ft. island style home with you. As you drive past your wooden sun carved gates, you will enter into your own private sanctuary. Our family living room is made up of Hawaii's prized Koa wood. Many windows let the cool breeze through as well as EACH room has its own ceiling fan. Our large kitchen is a great gathering spot and has a granite counter island that everyone can gather around. As you walk out onto the wrap around entertainment deck, you will look into the 1,500 sqr. ft. thermal heated swimming pond. Our pond ranges from 2ft.- 10 f. at the deepest spot. This pond is fed from under ground springs from the ocean so it rises and falls with the tide. This is also a great filtering system that keeps the water very clean and clear and with a temperature that is normally in the 80's. This makes snorkeling in the pond a pleasure. We do supply some snorkeling equipment as well as a hot/cold out side shower. If you take a right outside our drive way, you will see a tunnel of trees which leads to tide pools as well as the breathtaking view of the ocean. Walk another 6 minutes and your will be at the Wai' Ope Fish Reserve. See so many colorful fish as well as the different colored corals. This is Not a place you will find packed with people. A 5 minute drive will take you to Ahalanui warm springs park . Pahoa is a 15 minute drive with quaint restaurants and to do your marketing. Hilo Town is 30 minutes away where you can visit the farmers market with all its exotic fruits for sale as well as souvenirs, surf shops, restaurants, diving rentals , ect.. Across the street is a black sand beach were you can watch the canoe teams practice or walk and look for beach glass. Then theres the Volcano National Park you want to visit. Walk through lava tubes and see the steam vents. The Volcano Golf course is right above the park as well as the Volcano Winery. If its night time lava cascading down the volcano you want to see, thats about a 20 minute drive from our home. Viewing is free and it opens to the public at 5 p.m. Bring a jacket, flashlight (theres some at the house) and water. Park rangers are there to make sure everyone is safe. My favorite thing to do is just lay by the pond , feed the fish and enjoy the sound of the ocean. Hope you'll visit us soon.

My husband and I always rented a home in Kopoho to get away. We love it so much we decided to buy one. Its like stepping back in time.
The constant sound of the ocean.
Kids loved the hot tide pool in the yard and adults loved the ocean tide pools. One of the nicer maintained homes in the area. Nice safe community here. Very cool old school hawaii homes here. No turtles this time in the tide pool. Weather was mostly sunny here vs a week of steady rain on the kona side we stayed on before coming here lol. House has everything you need including snorkle gear beach chairs etc. No beaches on this corner of hawaii other than kehena hippy beach. Very cool vibes here not very many tourists here at all. In fact we got lots of stares from all the hippy people in pohoa. We likely looked lost and definately out of place. Youll understand if you ever visit pohoa lol. The lava bike rental is a must do at the end of the road at kalpana. Saw lava flowing. Crazy the guys that live on the lava. $7000 a quarter acre there. Back to the house. Wifi works great and our phones worked great roaming. Tv has satalite with tons of channels. No ac here but tons of fans. We all agreed a good memory foam topper or mattresses would be nice. Beds werent that comfy. But house is awesome and one of a kind. Not very many bugs around the house either for being in the rainforest here. Love the covered lanai. Really cool to sit here while the tropical rains come down. Sun shines perfectly into back yard. Wrap around lanai is also great for finding shade. Ive stayed in one other house here years ago and this house is way better. Tide pool is much cleaner here and more pool like than many others. Kids loved that the outside shower has both hot and cold water. Avoided a few meltdowns with that. Tons of pool toys. We had lots of little kids 3,5,7,10 and 13 years old. This property was perfect and nicely fenced in so you dont need to follow them around constantly. One house away from the ocean and a short walk to tide pools. Tide pools are warm and full of fish and coral and no ocean currents. Very safe easy world clasa snorkling right out your door with no one else around most days. Kind of a secret place. With no boats or fishing aloud here there no tours. And being so far from kona theres no tourists really. Great place to stay a few days as you travel around the island. I hope the empty properties here get bought up and restored. Such a nice little community here.
Property was perfect for my Ohana of 4/adults 4/kids. Lots of room to spare w/out everyone being over crowded. Kids love being close to the tide pools though the surf was high at the time of our visit. Pool was interesting but kids loved being in the water. Had my daughter/boyfriend, my cousins from Kona, nephew/nieces w/kids that live in the Puna area over to BBQ. We had a wonderful time. There were some small household issues but they were soon resolved w/Kim and Mark. Kim and Mark are very caring and really want you and yours to enjoy their home, fresh water pool and what the area has to offer. Can't go wrong w/the area. Very inviting and weather is your usual Puna liquid sunshine..
Mahalo, Mark, Kim, Anthony, Alton and Susan it was a group effort w/your help and support.
We loved the location of this peaceful home, a stones throw from the ocean and magnificent Hawaiian sunrises. We lacked for nothing as the home was well stocked from the bedrooms to the kitchen. I loved having my morning coffee on the deck overlooking my own private little tide pool and feeding the fish. Great location for day trips, with tons to see within a close range. We had a wonderful dinner at Kaleo's bar & grill in Pahoa. Found a fabulous little farmers market with the freshest and best fruit!
Mahalo Kim for a wonderful couple of days.
Let me just start by saying that this house was fully equipped and large enough for the nine of us while still being very comfortable. The owner Kim was extremely accommodating and quick to respond to any questions or emails. The pool in the backyard was a fun addition though I wish there was a pool net supplied so we could keep the leaves and debris out of it. They even supply toys floaty's and reef walkers in many different sizes. There were a ton of ceiling fans in the home but it was not enough to keep the home cool. The house is very very warm. Fortunately it cools off quite a bit at night. They even supplied laundry detergent! This house literally had everything you needed to be comfortable. The reason for my three star rating however is because of the master bedroom. My sister and her baby slept in that room and it is a beautiful room with a large bed that had a memory foam topper on it which made us all jealous because her bed was the most comfortable. The reason this bedroom was the cause for my rating is because it had bedbugs! My sister and her baby were covered in bedbug bites. I did let the owner know and she said it would be addressed so hopefully she will get rid of that bed and replace it with a clean one. My sister and her baby were quite miserable the whole time we were there because they were so itchy. The bathtub in the Jack and Jill bathroom is also extremely slippery so if you have kids beware! Our kids were falling all over that thing. The tide pools are really amazing and all within walking distance but if you are bringing small children be aware that the lava rock is extremely sharp and there are no shallow pools for your kids to play in. Even the beautiful pool that is five minutes down the road in Pohoiki I though beautiful is extremely warm due to the fact that it is thermal. Like I'm talking bathtub hot. The only other complaint I would have about this property is the fact that it is surrounded by condemned properties. The houses to either side and in the back have no one living in them and two of the three were basically falling down which was a bit unsettling. Overall, this home really was a great deal and very well-equipped. Once the bedbugs get addressed I would recommend this home to someone looking to stay in that area.
We loved the home and the area. It is so close to the tidepools. We were able to enjoy all its wondrous beauty and colorful richness of marine life at anytime we wanted during our trip. The home is well equipped with all rhe modern conveniences that our needed. I love the wrap around deck especially where the six of us were able to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian moonlight. It was a very memorable trip. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.
Great stay. Very unique rental. The pond was freshwater and rose and fell with the tides, flooding half the yard at high tide. Easy to tell where the tide was before a quick walk down to the tidepools. No A/C at all so if you can't handle it warm find somewhere else. Lots of beetles and roaches. It's the tropics, be prepared and store all food sealed. The house next door is in shambles, the other could look abandoned if you arrive late. Don't fear, there are plenty of people in the area and everything was safe. The real highlight of this trip was the very healthy tidepools. I love that they don't allow commercial tours to them. We never saw turtles in all our mornings out there but this is by far some of the best snorkeling I have ever done. Abundance of corals if you go out closer to the ocean, sand and rock in other pools with a good amount of fish. Gets a little too shallow at low tide to be in some of those pools for fear of touching the corals. A very out of the way place, not a lot to do in the area that isn't a 45 minute drive.
