About Helen Van Pelt
We are originally from NJ but my husband's grandparents lived in Coaldale, PA which is about 20 minutes from Jim Thorpe. When we were going to retire we decided to look around this area and found this magnificent town of Jim Thorpe. We love the history, the architecture and the fact that there is so much to do in this small town. When we bought our house we decided to invest in other properties and that is how we acquired our rental property. We also liked the fact that the house is just above our home so we are not absentee landlords.
Helen Van Pelt purchased this House in 2005
Why Helen Van Pelt chose Jim Thorpe
You are staying right in the heart of downtown but in a quiet and secluded area. Steps away from Broadway where all the restaurants, shops and local attractions are located.
What makes this House unique
Staying at our house enables you to not have to drive anywhere. You can walk to everything in town including rafting, biking, hiking, restaurants and shops. Want to see a great show at the Mauch Chunk Opera House? Because you are our guests, you will receive $5 off each ticket. We can reserve them for you, just let us know!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Great area, private outdoor sitting, cute and quaint home. Perfect for a weekend away! The area is full of activities and fun. The people there are all so kind. The neighbors, Kim and Lauren were so kind and helpful. And Helen was fabulous! She baked the most delicious bread and had some snacks sitting on the table upon our arrival. Hope to be back again soon!!
Lovely time in the cozy and quaint VanPelt home
We had a wonderful and relaxing weekend staying at the VanPelt home. The location is perfect for exploring the area, and there is plenty to do all within walking distance. We did the scenic railway tour, which was lovely. We frequented the many restaurants and bars, and popped into the cute boutiques.
The home was cozy despite the chilly weather. We were mostly out and about during the day, but the bed was quite comfortable. There are plenty of cooking supplies for the option of at-home meals, but the restaurants in the area are really good.
We definitely got our exercise with all the walking around and going up and down the hill to access the downtown from the house. In a good way! We love Jim Thorpe and can’t wait to return in the summer!
Cute house close to everything
This is a well-kept house close to everything Jim Thorpe has to offer. Check-in was a breeze, and it was nice to have the outdoor space with a firepit. You will be a short walk from all the restaurants, shops and attractions in town. Wear comfortable shoes, as the walk back is uphill!
Thank you so much for the great review! I’m happy to know my guests enjoy my home and I know the fire pit is really a great addition! You left the house in great shape, much appreciated! Thanks and I hope to see you again!
Quaint little place high on the hill.
This vacation rental was very clean. That is the first thing I noticed. Parking was tight but manageable. You can access town easily as long as you are physically able to walk hills. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and the muffins and bananas for our first breakfast morning was a nice treat. Would I stay here again if coming to the area? Absolutely.
Thank you for the great review. I’m so glad you enjoyed our home and we’d welcome you back anytime!
Best regards, Helen
Great time in Jim Thorpe
Cute house. Very clean and close to everything. Hope to return next year for the fall festival!
Great Fall Weekend getaway!
My wife and I had a great stay.... while this house may not be the 5 Star accommodations some are always seeking, It does give the flavor of the area, which to my wife and I is important to the experience.... The house was clean and comfortable, with maybe the exception of the downstairs sofa, which we tended to slide off lol... we even stayed in and made our own romantic dinner last night and spent some time out by the fire table.... hearing the music at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in the distance... thanks Helen for having us...
PS: Perhaps we were meant to stay there, I did notice a wooden crate on the top of the basement steps from “Nat’l Beverage Corp, Elizabeth, NJ”....where both my wife and I were born.
So happy you had a great experience in our house!
I know about the pillows on the couch. They need to be pushed in or back in. This very expensive and unusual leather sleeper sofa is not perfect but the bed is incredibly comfortable. Maybe next time open it up and relax while watching TV? Just a thought.
My husband and I are from Union County New Jersey. He collects beer crates from Jersey and PA. We have quite a few.
Thank you for leaving the house so neat!
I’m glad you enjoyed the fire pit also. Hope to see you again.
