About Helen Van Pelt

We are originally from NJ but my husband's grandparents lived in Coaldale, PA which is about 20 minutes from Jim Thorpe. When we were going to retire we decided to look around this area and found this magnificent town of Jim Thorpe. We love the history, the architecture and the fact that there is so much to do in this small town. When we bought our house we decided to invest in other properties and that is how we acquired our rental property. We also liked the fact that the house is just above our home so we are not absentee landlords.

Helen Van Pelt purchased this house in 2005

Why Helen Van Pelt chose Poconos

You are staying right in the heart of downtown but in a quiet and secluded area. Steps away from Broadway where all the restaurants, shops and local attractions are located.

What makes this house unique

Staying at our house enables you to not have to drive anywhere. You can walk to everything in town including The Mauch Chunk Opera House, rafting, biking, hiking, restaurants and shops.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Spent a week here and it was just great. Convenient to all in town.

The house was clean and comfortable. Hosts went out of their way to make us comfortable.

Really nice older home.

  • 5 of 5

The Van Pelt's House is located on a quiet back street within walking distance to the shops in Jim Thorpe and attractions such as the Mauch Chunk Opera House and Asa Packer Mansion. This very clean, tastefully decorated home has both modern amenities and antiques such as a claw foot bathtub. Our host provided us with enough groceries and a delicious homemade cranberry bread to have our breakfast at the house. My husband and I enjoyed a very comfortable extended weekend.

Great little place

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I just stayed here this past weekend for my birthday and we had a lovely time. It's a quick distance to the heart of Jim Thorpe but also very private as opposed to a b&b. Helen greeted us with goodies and showed us around so we knew where everything was. We would absolutely stay again and I've already recommended to friends and family.

Just one side note... There are TWO sets of stairs that appear to go down to town from the street. Make sure you take the second set. The first set had a very faded "keep out" sign that we originally missed (oops!) and it takes you to a dead end.

The Van Pelt house is a great choice for lodging in Jim Thorpe. It's a cozy, quaint, clean and very welcoming home after a busy day out and about. We enjoyed our weekend stay very much (sorry it went so fast) and look forward to coming back. Loved the fact that we could park the car and not move it until it was time to leave; very close to everything in town. Recommend highly!

This was our second stay at the VanPelt house. It is a perfect location! Easy to park and then walk to everything in town. We walked to dinner, the train, the opera house and shops. The house is adorable and well kept. We will be back again!
