Seward Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5)

Built in 1920 and remodeled in 2012, Sea Star Cottage is a charming family get away in historic downtown Seward, Alaska. The cottage is ideally located within walking distance to shops, restaurants, galleries, and the Alaska SeaLife center. Marine wildlife tours and fishing charters depart from the boat harbor less than a mile away. The view from the living room is of Resurrection Bay and the mountains beyond. Behind the cottage, watch hikers make their way up the rugged Mount Marathon trail. Cottage guests will enjoy lovely views, a fully-equipped, updated kitchen, and two cozy bedrooms with restored original hardwood floors. The master bedroom is equipped with a queen bed and walk-in closet. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a full sized lower bed and a twin on top. There is a pull-out sleeper in the living area to accommodate extra guests. A dining table seating six provides a great place to enjoy meals with a view.

About Christina

Alaska has been our home for 15 years. We enjoy the mountains, the water and small town life which is why we love Seward.

Why Christina chose Kenai Peninsula

The Sea Star Cottage is one of Seward's original homes, built in 1920 and renovated in 2012. Seward is a place where the mountains, the water and history all come together. Sea Star allows us to share the beauty of Seward with all who visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much. Y’all really make this house feel like an Alaskan home. Everything is kept so nice and tidy! I just love the beach theme too!! It is easy to see that you two put a lot of effort to make this house as comfortable as possible. I will definitely recommend this house to anyone I know! Thank you again.

Comfortable, clean and walking distance to downtown restaurants, shops, etc.

Enjoyed the cottage. Parking is best in the alley and not as attractive, but very clean, comfortable and close to everything in Seward.

Great place to stay in Seward

  • 5 of 5

There aren't many hotel options in Seward and for about the same price we had this amazing cottage to ourselves! Our family of 4 enjoyed relaxing at the cottage. Great reading chair for mom, tv with netflics for my teen kids and coffee ready to make for dad. Unlike other places, everything is stocked for you including laundry detergent, rolls of toilet paper and some basic supplies like tea when my son started getting a cough. It is convenient to town and you can easily walk the mile to the boat harbors (or drive) for activities or restaurants on that side of town. The neighborhood didn't look like much when approaching from the back ally or in the wide view of the front (as the cottage owners clearly do the best job in area making their property look nice) but don't be fooled, this is the diamond in the rough that will give you a comfortable and clean stay. It is cutely and cozily decorated and all appliances work well. This is a safe town and we loved the location as did my kids who could walk around and easily find their way back. Wouldn't stay anywhere else in town and you'll know that too after spending a few days here and seeing the other options which makes this one really stand out as the best!

A beautiful, cozy cottage close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 loved our time in Sea Star Cottage. This cozy house was the perfect place for our family to enjoy Seward. The cottage is very bright, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well-stocked and roomy. The location of the house to downtown Seward is a huge plus. We walked to a coffee house, gelato and even our Sea Kayak tour.

The owners really care about their guests with many special touches to make you feel welcome. We hope to return to the delightful Sea Star Cottage.

Love, love, love this cottage!

  • 4 of 5

We (me, husband, and our 2 girls ages 16 & 12) loved this cottage! You can tell a lot of effort was put into making this a very comfortable home-away-from-home for their guests. We have stayed in many VRBO homes and this ranks as one of our favorites, except for the mattress in the master bedroom. I never saw it mentioned in reviews until after we got home from our trip, but we agree: the middle of the mattress sags, causing the two sleepers to roll into the middle. My husband ended up sleeping on the sofa in the living room the entire stay, which was disappointing. For this reason, we can only give 4.75 stars instead of a 5+ star review.

However, everything else was fantastic. The décor, location, furnishings, baskets of books and toys, kitchenware, laundry supplies, and travel information were great! We loved reading the little photo book about how the cottage was transformed. We were SO impressed with the binder of Seward information--the best yet of any place we've stayed! That binder was really helpful. We also appreciated the thoughtful goodies left for us and a brand new sponge for cleaning dishes. (Most places do not provide them, and it is a little thing that we appreciate!)

We really enjoyed being able to walk to most spots in Seward. My husband and our 16 year-old loved climbing up Mt. Marathon, too. I had a lovely chat with the nice man a couple doors down who has pretty flowers in his yard.

Thank you, Christina and Matt for sharing your home with us. We loved it, and except for the mattress, it is one of our favorite places of all time. What a gem!

Tips: Get a smoothie from Nature's Nectar. They are amazing and worth the wait. Get crepes from Le Barn Appetit, a small drive from the condo. (Worth the wait as well.) Safeway is nearby for groceries.

Charming Sea Star Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very convenient it was fun being right in Seward and walking the streets. We really did find the cottage charming, and very clean. We would definitely return to this cottage, it had all of the facilities and amenities we needed to make our stay enjoyable. We went kayaking and saw more bald eagles then we ever had. Thank you for sharing your cottage.

Absolutely PERFECT location!

  • 5 of 5

We were in Seward the first week of July and stayed at Sea Star Cottage for three nights. I have stayed in at least a dozen VRBO rentals, and this house was the most well stocked property we have ever visited! Absolutely everything that we could have needed for our stay was there. It was immaculately clean as well. We parked our car on Day One and only moved it to go to the Safeway a few miles down the road. Otherwise, everything that we wanted was within short walking distance, including restaurants and the offices for our glacier hiking and kayaking trips. Cute coffee place directly across the street in an old church. Owners were very responsive. Wonderful overall experience, thank you!
