The Klaasen Cottage is truly an “Up North Get Away” located on the east side of beautiful Lake Ann. This sprawling cottage has plenty of room for everyone in the family. The cottage has 2 wings with a large family room in the center. There is living space and kitchen/dining space in each wing. The main wing has a mater bedroom which features a king bed and half bath., bedroom 2 is for the young (or young at heart) with a set of log bunk beds, bedroom 3 has a queen bed. In the far wing there is the 4th bedroom with a queen bed and full bath. The large family room in the center features a huge stone fireplace, flat screen TV and lots of windows to enjoy the beautiful view! This cottage has shared frontage and dock with other cottages (call for more details).
The decorating is definitely “Up North” with a stone fireplace, hand crafted furniture and large picture window overlooking the lake is a perfect setting for your vacation. The kitchen is fully equipped for a full dinner or just a quick breakfast. Enjoy star gazing from the deck and if you’re quiet you may see the deer out for a stroll for a drink at the lake. Lake Ann is an all sports lake, with something for everyone from relaxing on the sandy shore to water skiing around the lake. A chain of lakes and streams connect to Lake Ann for kayaking & canoeing.
The Klaasen Cottage is just 5 minutes from golf at Mistwood Golf Course, 10 minutes from Interlochen Arts Academy where you can enjoy the music of James Taylor to Savage Garden. Or you can take the family to the Cherry Bowl Drive for old fashion fun with the current movie favorites for your family to enjoy. We are located just 15 minutes from Traverse City one of the top tourist destinations in the country.
-House was very clean when we arrived.
-View of lake is wonderful including sunsets.
-House can actually sleep 14 - perhaps they are limited by local association to a lesser number
-House is huge and could be 2 rentals in one building. One wing = 3 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 1 bath, 2 living areas, foyer, large porch. 2nd wing = 1 bedroom, 1 kitchen, 1 bath, 1 living area, 1 porch, beach entrance. 2 sleeping areas are pull out sofas in a livingroom - one upstairs, one downstairs.
-Sandy beach (sand brought in by association) shallow to end of dock w/ some stone/shell; deep after end of dock but no raft to swim to. Lake is extremely clear and comfortable.
-fishing is good - not great but no complaint.
-property managers are pleasant a easy to work with but I was not always happy with their solutions to a problem.
-Kitchen is well appointed and shopping is nearby in Interlochen or Lake Ann.
-Bathrooms are good for lake property - tile, good water flow,
-Location is good for Leelanua Peninsula and Grand Traverse area. We enjoyed many local outings.
-It cost an additional $250 to rent a rowboat for the week while 2 set racked and unused in front of the house. They belonged to the association and we were not allowed to use them. At this price point, that did not make me happy.
-The pictures are dated and the outdoor areas are very weathered providing splinters from decking and chairs.
-Downstairs bedroom was once a boat house. When closed up it smells damp and musty. That goes away if the windows are open.
-Klaasen Cottage is in the middle of an association (family) that once owned Klaasen Cottage. The beach and dock are shared and it was not always obvious that we were welcome either place. There was never anything unpleasant said but there was a atmosphere of tension and they always stayed separate from us even though we helped an older gentleman put in a handicapped dock extension for his wife. As expected, this was not a problem for the children, only the adults.
This is a property to enjoy. It is special and we had a good time.
