About the property

Apts, 1 Bedrooms, 1 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Originally constructed as an apartment during world war I for Mare Island shipyard workers this attic level flat is updated & finished with a color and texture scheme reminiscent of its past and complementing its existing "shabby chic" elements. The unit is in a 1890 Victorian that is part of the old "Topley estate" (Vallejo's first pharmacists owned this home and the one adjacent to it) and a former childhood home of Actor Raymond Burr (famous for Perry Mason).

The unit can accommodate 6 adults with 1 bedrooms (with 2 full double beds) plus a sofa sleeper in the living space. The bath has a shower over tub and kitchen is fully equip, including a portable dishwasher. There is space to eat in the dinette or bar counter in the kitchen. A toddler bed can be set up upon request and there is one high chair available.

You have exclusive use of the entire unit. Outside there is a small deck common space with table/chairs in the yard and a BBQ. All essentials are included. Unit complies with smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, first aid kit and fire extinguisher.

A clean and healthy vacation rental is your right and our obligation! We pride ourselves in providing sleeping accommodations that are protected with mattress AND boxspring total encasements ("Bug Blocker" brand) for your complete peace of mind. The property is also thoroughly cleaned prior to the arrival of every guest and our goal is to provide an impeccably clean and comfortable space for your visit. We launder all the linens (whites are bleached with traditional bleach & colors bleached with color safe alternative bleach), polish all table tops, vacuum all carpeting, wash (mop with sanitizer) all the floors, sanitize all the countertops with a bleach additive cleaner, and clean the bathroom entirely including bleaching the toilet, sink, tub & floor. The cleaning fee imposed at booking covers linen service and sanitary cleaning but does not dispense with the customary expectation that before departure you remove trash, clean up after yourselves (spills), wash/put away dishes/dishware and leave the unit tidy (broom swept condition). Extra cleaning is charged at $30 per hour.

Booking this space is an agreement that you are responsible for damage to the unit and furnishings (calculated at market rate replacement cost). Insurance is made available at booking if you desire but you accept the risk of liability should you decline it. Please also understand that this unit is made available as a vacation rental unit, not an event space. No parties are to be held on site without a separate written agreement detailing the purpose and cost. Booking constitutes agreement that ignoring this provision will result in tripling the rental rate, plus a $1,000 surcharge plus supplemental cleaning expense at $30 per hour.

Vallejo is where the Napa Valley begins! Located where the Napa River joins the San Francisco Bay, Vallejo is by wind speeds and the coolness of the Bay that keeps the heat of the Sacramento Valley, just over the hill, tempered. With summer temperatures mostly in the high 70s to low 80s, and a wind speed of less than 7 mph, on an average, Vallejo is enhanced by sun with the clearing morning fog of the summer season. In minutes you can drive to San Francisco, the Marin headlands, the Napa and Sonoma wine regions, or the state capitol. Sailing, golf, hiking, biking, birding on the Suisun protected marsh, skiing in the Sierra, life is enjoyable here in a small city atmosphere with close availability of major metropolitan charm.

Refer to the following links for helpful information on Vallejo:

The city is known for block parties, arts festivals, ethnic festivals, the Pirate Festival, the Vallejo Powwow, and the fabulous Obtainium Cup Race (google it!) with much entertainment and activity many times during the year. The is live music weekly at the Empress Theatre downtown, at Gracie's on the weekends, and opera, jazz, and live theater at the Bay Terrace Theater. The city has a vibrant art community that thrives in spite of the economy - live theatre, art shows, fabulous farmer's market on Saturdays - check out The Coal Shed on Mare Island, some splendid art going on there. There is a wonderful symphony as well as the Vallejo Chorale. All that and a range of housing from heritage Victorians and bungalows along with bay front, river front, and modern homes in the hills and on Mare Island. The views from many neighborhoods are breathtaking! Spots offer views of the Napa River, and the Carquinez Straits, which are the end of the Sacramento River. Close proximity to a wild life preserve, gentle weather and a Six Flags amusement park. The ferry ride to SF is spectacular and a great way to commute to the city.

Vallejo Heritage District contains houses which showcase a rich and varied architectural history. Most of the homes in the district were built between 1860 and 1890 in style of what has become known as the "Working Mans Victorian." The former Julia Morgan home is just a block away.

Old town Vallejo has an emerging artist scene in what was a blue color town and Navy base. It is eclectic. Live entertainment is showcased at the Empress Theater and the Mira playhouse. For those interested in community theater "Hob Nob" is down the block. The Mare Island brewery is a 15 minute walk away at the ferry terminal. There is a fantastic farmers market Saturday mornings just steps from the front door.

The bus terminal is 3 blocks away which allows public transit access throughout Vallejo, neighboring communities and BART (the subway). The BayLink Ferry to San Francisco is a short walk to the Vallejo waterfront.

Meal catering (and/or advance grocery shopping) as well as housekeeping (for longer stays) available upon advance arrangement and at extra cost. .

Very accommodating host supplying the basics needed for breakfast. Great view of the sunset. We stayed here in January and came back again, it was that good! Loved our stay!

Charming getaway

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with the cleanliness and comfort of this quaint little apartment. We were made to feel welcome immediately with a fun assortment of snacks and drinks. The property had everything we needed for a restful vacation. The owner was very helpful when we arrived in town a day early and made it possible for us to book an extra night. We had quiet nights and considerate downstairs neighbors (there definitely would have been potential for noise had they not been quiet... But we were lucky). We caught the ferry down the hill to San Francisco two days in a row, which was convenient but added two hours of ferry riding to our daily excursions... Not sure I would do that again, except that rentals in SF are so very expensive. Overall excellent experience and would definitely recommend.

Our family vacation to SF was great. When we arrived the house was very clean. A very nice gift basket was waiting for us. The fridge was stocked with all the essentials. After traveling so long it was nice not to have an stop at a grocery store. All the details were taken care of. The house is small but very comfortable for my two sons and I. We did not mind at all the distance from the city. Overall one of the best rentals we have stayed in because of the attention to detail.
