All the fun mountain and river activities but only one hour to Albuquerque or Santa Fe for shopping, museums, and sightseeing.
We stayed at this property at the end of our week-and-a-half-long tour through New Mexico's scenic sites. Our two sons (ages 18 and 23) stayed in two of the lovely upstairs bedrooms, and my husband and I stayed downstairs. After moving from hotel-to-hotel for 5 days, my family was relieved to settle in at this peaceful location for several days. My sons so appreciated the large upstairs bedrooms and they were grateful for the good quality internet connection. My husband, his feet sore from hiking, enjoyed sitting out on the screened deck reading while listening to the sounds of the adjacent Jemez River. I also spent quiet moments out on the deck each day.
We used Jemez Springs as our base to visit Valles Caldera, Bandelier National Monument (Frijoles Canyon and Tsankawi pueblo ruins and cliff dwellings), and Los Alamos (Bradbury Science Museum). We saw a very large herd of elk at Valle Grande in Valles Caldera. We visited Jemez Springs' Soda Dam, as well. It was so pleasant to experience the high altitude climate and appreciate the smell of pine trees and the sound of wind rustling through them.
The photos of this property on the VRBO site do not do it justice. The bedrooms are all very tastefully done with good linens and nice art. All of the bedrooms open out onto either the upstairs or downstairs screened decks. Two of the upstairs bedrooms have televisions inside armoires and the other has a television on a bookshelf. The one downstairs bedroom is not as roomy as the three upstairs bedrooms, but it is equally well appointed. There is really not an inside dining area at this property (although there is a kitchen island with two chairs); however, there is a table on the screened deck which can seat 6 and there is another table on an exterior non-screened deck. A pool table is located in the garage and although we didn't use it, it could be a setting for lots of fun.
Jemez Stage Stop Cafe was the perfect location for us to have a hearty breakfast before setting off on each day's activity or hike. They served large omelette breakfasts and blue corn and blueberry pancakes. There is another breakfast place in town, but my sons liked Jemez Stage Stop Cafe so much, they didn't want to try anything else.
All-in-all, we were quite happy with our stay in this home by the Jemez River.
We are a family of 5 and so it is often hard to find a home that will meet our needs for a reasonable price. This property delivered! There was plenty of room for all of us and the house felt like a home. My husband is an outdoor person while I prefer to be cozy inside. This house met both of our needs!
We had never been to Jemez Springs before so we didn't know what to expect. The location of the home (near town), as well as the river in the backyard, were wonderful. Can't say enough good things. I echo the positive reviews of the other previous guests. Thanks for a great time!
Cozy and at a perfect location. The Wi-Fi was excellent. I would gladly recommend this property to my friends and family. Fix the hot tube and I would definitely rent the property again.
A wonderfuly comfortable home. We felt like we were staying in our own vacation home and would love to stay again and bring our kids and grandkids.
Plenty of room for all. From the ambiance of the stream and woodstove to the pool table in the garage everything was great.. There are even fishing poles if
you forget your own.
This is a gorgeous house with great amenities (washer/dryer, dishwasher, games, tv in bedrooms, hammock, lots of outdoor and porch space). It's very comfortable and spacious. It's in a prime location that offers a quite retreat overlooking the river and is still very close to a few restaurants.
Our trip was a ladies' three day getaway. Everyone was in agreement about the house being fantastic and the location really can't be beat in Jemez Springs! There was lots of room for all eight of us to sleep, and we particularly enjoyed the two decks and the well stocked kitchen. The only issues we had were 1) you can't park in the garage because there is no space. Also don't open the garage door, you will have a heck of a time closing it back up! 2) there was no toilet paper in the upstairs bathroom, so that was a pickle until we discovered some in the garage. It would have been nice to have some stashed in the many cabinets that were in the bathroom. 3) ANTS. There were hundreds of ants in the upstairs bathroom and no matter how many we killed, more kept coming in. It was really gross to have to shower there; the ants were even coming out of the fittings around the faucet. We did contact the owner but were told we were on our own with that which was a bummer. 4) The house was not recently cleaned when we got there. There were cobwebs in the kitchen as well as the bathrooms, and dead ants on the counter in the kitchen. 5) The showers only had two settings- scorching hot and cold. It took us quite a while to find a magical spot within millimeters where you could stand the temperature long enough to shower. This might have something to do with the settings on the water heater in the garage but we didn't know enough about it to mess with it.
Now I know this sounds like a ton of complaints, but overall we really did have a very good time, and this property is absolutely wonderful! Also, all the complaints are easily fixable which would make anyone's stay pretty much perfect. In fact we all agreed that even with the all random little things that were less than fabulous, we would all happily book another stay there. :)
