Built in 1912 and completely renovated in 2005, Birches was part of the historic Lake Placid Club grounds used to house European royalty prior to World War I. Walk to everything: Birches is one block from Mirror Lake, 2 blocks from golf and tennis and 4 blocks from the center of the Olympic Village. Perched on a gentle hillside, Birches offers million dollar views of the Adirondack High Peaks, Olympic Ski Jumps, Olympic Bobsled Track and Lake Placid Golf Courses.
Birches has 5 bedrooms, 4 of which have spacious sleeping lofts (that include Tempur-Pedic mattresses), and sleeps up to 20 people. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom and reading porch.
The master bedroom has a king bed, private balcony with views of Olympic ski jumps, bobsled track and Cascade Mountain range. Relax in a leather love seat by the warm wood burning fireplace in the suite! The master bathroom has two sink vanity plus double shower heads.
In addition to the master bedroom, there are three bedrooms with king beds, one bedroom with a queen bed and one bedroom with two twin beds (temperpedic mattresses) that can be pushed together to make a king. All beds come equipped with linens and comforter. Two towels are provided for each bedroom (10 in total.) I recommend bringing extra towels for hot tub and lake. There is a washer and dryer on the top level.
The four bedrooms on the top floor have private balconies. Each balcony is unique and has a different feel. I recommend spending time on each balcony whether reading, playing cards, people watching, or relaxing with your favorite drink. Great in all seasons! The four upstairs bedrooms also come with large, spacious sleeping lofts accessed by a ladder. The lofts come with Tempurpedic Mattresses ranging in size from twins (6 in total) to doubles (2 in total.) They mattresses come with a fitted sheet and throw comforter! Kids love to play in the lofts!
Birches sits on an acre of wooded property. The open floor plan is designed to enhance entertainment with a large, fully equipped kitchen including cable tv and breakfast bar, a large dining room with window seats, and a spacious family room with a stone fireplace, game table, and floor-to-ceiling windows to capture the awesome views.
A five-person hot tub outside the ground-level game room provides relaxation after skiing, hiking, or exercise with views of the golf courses, ski jumps, bobsled and mountains. An outdoor grill is available. The ground-level game room has regulation size ping pong table. There is also a sleeping alcove off to the side that some guests use as an extra bedroom. It is a double size temperpedic mattress that comes with a fitted sheet and throw comforter.

My favorite thing to do is to spend time in Lake Placid and the Adirondacks. I love playing hockey and skiing in the winter, and kayaking, water skiing and swimming in the summer. When the leaves change colors, no better place to be in the world! Lake Placid always helps me to forget the stresses of day to day life! I go back to work Monday feeling very relaxed and refreshed.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2002
My dad was a former member of the Lake Placid Club. His love of Lake Placid and sweet memories led him to bring us to vacation in Lake Placid. I have been coming to Lake Placid for vacation and hockey camp since 1983. I use to walk the Lake Placid Club grounds with my dad and he would point out all the great landmarks of the historic club. We loved the Adirondack design of the club cottages and when the opportunity presented itself, I had to own a piece of the Historic Club. I actually almost bought an adjacent house, but when I saw Birches, I knew this was my place. It sits prominently on the street and I always think of a tree house when I look at it. The view of the Olympic Ski Jumps and Bobsled tracks are the best on the block! I grew up seeing family pictures through the years with the ski jumps as backdrop so when I look out from Birches I feel like I am home with family. The location is incredible - I can walk to Mirror Lake, Main Street, Olympic Center, Speed Skating Oval, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, tennis courts, park, toboggan, and my favorite mountain - Cobble Hill! I am so close to the hussle and bustle of Main Street yet at Birches it is very peaceful - like being in a forest with great views!
Location and views is what makes Birches great! I love pointing out the lights zig zagging down the mountain is the Olympic bobsled track. Nothing beats getting up in the morning during winter and taking the kids over to the sledding hill, hockey on Mirror Lake or taking a short drive to Whiteface for skiing. My wife and I love walking to dinner at Nicola's or LP Pub & Brewery too! When you first walk into Birches, you are greeted by a large mural of Adirondacks painted by a local artist. My son loves to point out the different animals!
Came to Birches Cottage with a group of 12 and holy cow we were floored. Upon arrival we couldnt get over how the photos do not come close to doing justice to Kevin's beautiful home in Lake Placid. 5 absolutely comfortable bedrooms and a nice sleeping space int he basement provided us unbelievable comfort for such a large group. The kitchen and living/dining room area on the first floor made our trip so fun as we could all pile into one place. Great fireplace, the beautiful porch... the ping pong! all of it made for a great time, not to forget the hot tub which was nice as well as a top notch Weber grill that held its own in sub 30 degree temperatures. This place is kept in tip top shape and Kevin made sure we didnt have a single issue the entire weekend. We will be back!
Second year going to Lake Placid for Oktoberfest, first year staying at the Birches. This is the perfect accommodation for a group of 10 or more. All 5 bedrooms are great, the view, the hot tub, the spacious common area, all make for a memorable weekend. I would recommend 110%.
We were a group of 17 and stayed there for 4 nights in june 2013. The cottage is spacious, very well equiped with everything necessary (and more) and the view from the porch is wonderful. It is a super calm place while at the same time within walkin distance to downtown lake placid. Everybody had a good time, and I would defintely recommend this place.
We have been renting houses in Lake Placid for years and this is our favorite so far. The pictures don't do it justice. Very spacious layout downstairs and the bedrooms are all a great size with baths of their own. There was snow on the ground while we were there and the kids had a great time sleigh riding down the driveway. We were traveling with 5 kids that were 3 and under and there was plenty of room to spread out. The view was spectacular and we loved the Adirondack feel that the home has. Kitchen was great. The home was very clean. The only downside is that there are no window treatments of any kind on the bedroom windows. Luckily we realized that and prepared ahead of time. We will definitely consider renting this home again!!
This place is amazing! Incredibly spacious and has the Adirondack feel inside and out. Kitchen and living areas are wide open and perfectly decorated. Bedrooms are spacious and perfectly designed for renting families. Each bedroom has its own private bath and loft for kids to sleep. Location is close enough to walk to the village of Lake Placid and the view of the ski jumps and bobsled run puts this place over the top. Throw in the hot tub and 2 woodburning fireplaces, what else can you afsk for? I will be returning to rent this property.
This was our first time renting a house in Lake Placid for 10 of us... As soon as we walked in the door we were blown away by how big & beautiful this home was! There was never one time during our stay that we felt crowded... Every room was spotless, the kitchen included everything we needed (the separate ice maker was a bonus) and (2) coffee pots. Great neighborhood to take an early morning or after dinner stroll and everything was within a 10-15 min (tops) walking distance but far enough away to enjoy the peace & quiet. The wrap around porch was enormous and so peaceful. I think the photos don't do this home justice...and you won't be disappointed if you decided to stay here.

Rental rates are subject to change. Rates are based on number of people, number of nights and time of year. Highly recommend you request a quote as Lake Placid is extremely seasonal and demand varies. Pricing for events, holidays and one-night stays do cost more. I am always willing to negotiate. I do collect a refundable security deposit that is refunded upon departure.
Short walk to Olympic Center and Speed Skating Oval - see where the Miracle on Ice happened! See Olympic hopefuls soar through the sky at the Olympic Ski Jumps. Take a thrilling boblsed ride down the Olympic track! Cross Country Skiers can hop on the Jack Rabbit Trail right outside the front door. Cobble Mountain (great views of LP and perfect for family pictures) is two blocks away. Walk to town for shopping, restaurants and drinks! The Lake Placid Horseshow grounds are less than 5 minutes away for people attending LP Horseshow and Rugby and Lacrosse Tournaments. Great place to view the fireworks - feels like it is your own private firework show when town shoots them off!
