Princess Cottage is a fantastic value in a unique and memorable location. This traditional 2 bedroom beach cottage is located in the heart of Kapoho Beach Lots, a quiet residential community on the eastern tip of Hawaii's Big Island. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom, accommodating up to 4 guests. A large, private, geothermally heated tidal pond commands most of the front yard, complete with a lounging patio with chairs and a BBQ that overlooks the clear waters. You'll spend lots of time on the spacious, covered lanai relaxing after a good swim, enjoying your favorite book, or talking story with your travel mates over evening cocktails.
Princess Cottage is across the narrow lane from Champagne Pond – in just a minute or two you can walk to the nearest access point and enjoy of one of East Hawaii's best swimming spots. Protected by a reef, Champagne Pond is a calm body of water fed by underground hot springs and heated to a luxurious 90 degrees where Honu (green sea turtles) can often be found. Snorkel in the thermally warmed waters or simply float on the surface while enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
Everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing Hawaiian getaway is provided at Princess Cottage. One bedroom is in the main part of the house just off the living room and has a double bed, closet and dresser. Check the closet for books and board games to add enjoyment to your stay. The other bedroom is detached for extra privacy, with a private entrance from the lanai. This bedroom is furnished with a queen bed and large armoire with plenty of hangers.
The living room is appointed with a matching loveseat, rocking chair and a chair with ottoman. There is a TV with satellite reception and a DVD player. A CD player with AM/FM radio provides for your musical enjoyment. The open floorplan combines the living room, dining area and kitchen and has open beam ceilings and a ceiling fan to keep the air flowing. A sliding glass door opens to the large lanai. The full bathroom has a vanity and shower-over-tub, and also houses the washer and dryer.
The full kitchen is outfitted with everything you'll need to prepare, cook and serve meals. There's an electric range, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, blender, toaster, rice cooker and plenty of cookware, dishes and utensils. The country style dining table has seating for 4. There's also a dining table outside on the large covered lanai where you can enjoy your meals out-of-doors.
If cooking isn't your thing, there are great restaurants in Pahoa Village about a ten minute drive away. Hilo is another 30 minutes from Pahoa where you will find the Hilo International Airport, large grocery stores, movie theater, museums, cultural centers and so much more. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is an hour away.
There are some fantastic spots to explore in the Kapoho area as well. You'll have a blast exploring along the Red Road – one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever take. Heading south from Kapoho you'll find the Wai Opae Marine Conservation Area – AKA the Kapoho Tidepools – with some of the best snorkeling in the state. Head south and you'll discover Ahalanui Park, aka Millionaires Pond, where a large lagoon at the ocean's edge that is heated by hot springs to near Jacuzzi temperature, as well as pavilions and BBQs. A couple more miles south is Isaac Hale Park at Pohoiki Bay the local hot spot for surfing and boogie boarding, that is also home to the boat ramp that the lava viewing boats use. Kehena Black Sand Beach is a 15 minute drive – it's unofficially clothing optional but don't let that bother you; most beach goers do wear swim suits. Drive another 10 minutes past Kehena and you'll reach “the end of the road”. Here's where you can get to the Kalapana lava viewing area, where Pele often puts on a show, and find Uncle Robert's Awa Bar where a festive Wednesday night market with live music, great food, and local artisans selling their handmade items.

Charming and quiet
We really enjoyed the tranquility of this cottage. It was so very close to the ponds and tidepools. Turtles were seen everyday. It’s a long drive to volcano so make sure you spend the whole day there so you are not driving back because you missed something. Great place to take children. And the beds were soooo comfortable. I want to stay here again. And the restaurant in Pahoa called Kaleos had the best food!!!
Mahalo nui for your time and review. We'd love to host you any time.

Well maintained. Clean. Cool breeze in the evenings.
We were able to drive wherever we needed to go from here in a reasonable time. Gated community. Safe. Neighbors were friendly and helpful.
Wonderful little cottage, great location and family friendly!
This was our first stop on our Big Island vacation, and we loved it! The Princess Pond was a hit with out kids, bath waiter warm and full of fun things to look at (shrimp & fish), and just outside the door! Champagne Pond was also wonderful for old an young alike - make sure to bring water shoes! Best if you can stop at the farmers market at Hilo to stock up on fresh produce, and hit a grocery store on your way in, as there's lots to do nearby, but groceries are a bit of a hike. The cottage itself was cute and clean and had the all necessary equipment to make the stay easy-even a tube for floating around in the pond. Highly recommend this lovely location. Neighbors were friendly as well!
A perfect place for relaxation.
The princess cottage was everything our family needed to be accommodated from comfortable beds down to kitchen necessities. The natural pond was great to play or relax in at the end of the day and a large enough yard to play some soccer in with the kids. The tide pools are a two minute walk from the cottage that are full of beautiful fish and even sea turtles. The hosts were friendly and helpful. All around a wonderful place for our first trip to Hawaii. We would definitely stay here again. Mahalo!
Just a few things to point out - railings on steps need to be fixed on both sides of house - loose & unsteady ....patio portion leaked when it rained & really didn’t care for toilet seat....but otherwise very comfy & good location...pond was awesome! Mahalo
Mahalo nui for your review, and letting us know about the railings and leak on the lanai, Deborah! We'll get a handyman out there right away. Take care!
Totally enjoy myself at this well equipped cottage!!
Just across the street from the ocean and got into the hot pond almost every day!!! Would recommend this place!!
