Hi I'm Cliff Palermo. My family and I have been hosting guests in DC since 2011. We enjoy providing great places for travelers to call home, while away from home.
Cliff Palermo purchased this townhome in 2012
This location is full of History and is at the seat of world power. It allows easy access to the great historical sights of Washington as well as the business center.
This well furnished town home was perfect for our group of seven. The location is close enough to walk to monuments and museums, or a short cab/uber ride if the weather isn't cooperating, so we didn't need to rent a car. Our group thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and highly recommend it to anyone planning a family trip to DC.
The house is gorgeous, parking was easy (with permit), it's a lovely walk to the Capitol and then on to the other monuments and museums. Metro is a few blocks away, Eastern Market also a few blocks away (there's a farmer's market/craft market on the weekends, in addition to the regular food stalls inside). Kitchen is well-stocked for eating at home. The owners were easy to work with and quick to communicate. It was pretty ideal for our group of 3 women and we'll be back again!
As others have mentioned, this is in a great location only a half mile from the Eastern Market metro subway station, the Eastern Market farmer's market, and a lovely 15 minute walk to the Capitol Building and Library of Congress. Fantastic proximity to numerous restaurants and places for an after sightseeing drink, and there's an adorable little park right around the corner. It was fun to spend a morning here dog watching.
The not so good - the house was not clean when we arrived. Food messes in the sink and microwave. Smelly garbage disposal. Dirty bathroom floors. Beige carpet and furniture need some cleaning. Trash in the front yard, which needed manicuring. Crumbling (and very high) front steps. Toothpaste in bathroom sink. I emailed Cliff and he promptly refunded $150 of the $175 cleaning deposit and volunteered to have the house cleaned, but by that time we'd already done the cleaning ourselves. Not the best first impression.
The BIG problem was the queen bed in the master rests on slats - like a kid's bed. The slats repeatedly collapsed on one side, rendering the bed unusable for two. My average sized sister ended up sleeping on a sheet on the couch. Also, for the nightly amount that we paid, we expected a little more luxury, like more than two washcloths in the entire house, or a working TV in the smaller bedroom.
On the second night we were there, my 70 year old mom fell down the stairs. Luckily, nothing was broken, but she was severely bruised & sore, aside from scaring the heck out of the rest of us (the sound was awful!) The hardwood stairs are slick and dangerous and need a handrail. I'm not sure what Washington DC code requires, but the upper section of the stairs have 8-9 steps, and she tumbled clear to the bottom in socked feet. Do not attempt to ascend or descend these stairs in socks - they're slippery enough in bare feet and 2-3 in our party of 5 would take minor slips on these stairs during the duration of our stay.
It isn't a "bad" house - the exposed brick upstairs is charming, the kitchen is nice, the bathrooms are luxurious (although the window in the door of the master bathroom is a bit odd) - the prints on the wall are tasteful....if we'd paid half of our rate we may have noticed some of the flaws; however, for what we paid, our expectations were not met. We would stay in the neighborhood again, but not this particular property.
We booked this wonderful Capitol Hill location mere blocks from Eastern Market in Washington DC. The location was outstanding and central to everything one might want to do in the area. This wonderful 2 story townhome had every amenity you could ask for. It was incredibly easy to rent and the management knew exactly how to help us out. It was very simply to check in. The management company also helped us procure two parking passes for both our cars. Our two children, my mother in law, and my wife and I stayed here and we simply had a great time for the week. HIGHLY recommend this location and place.
The house was excellent, everything as expected from pictures and other reviews. Close to a Safeway and the Eastern Market. Excellent support from Cliff. We will definetely stay here next time we visit DC.
The house was awesome, and the location (about a 10 minute walk to the Eastern Market Metro.) Close to a Safeway, and the 8th Avenue Barracks Row restaurant area. The house was extraordinary. Great use of space. A pleasant backyard with comfy chairs; very nice neighbourhood. Cliff responded to all my inquiries in a prompt manner. We will definitely be back.
