The only vacation rental in the beautiful surfing village of Teahupoo, this four-bedroom two-bathroom house is ideally located a five-minute walk from the shore break and a two-minute walk to a crystal clear river pool. Surfers can be in the lineup in less than a half an hour by a jog to the point and a quick paddle out. This quiet community is unique in Tahiti both for its laid back surfing atmosphere and for its uncommonly welcoming and traditional Polynesian ambiance.
The artistic wooden house is 1,250 square feet plus a huge 270 square foot deck so you can practically live outdoors. The house is an octagon with an open-air area at its center - a mangosteen tree grows out of the middle and the area brings in lots of light as well as views of the mountains, and at night, the moon.
All the main rooms have teak floors while the bathrooms and kitchen are tiled. The custom made windows and kitchen cabinetry are made from hardwoods and the house is furnished with Bali style teak furniture. The home is designed to catch tropical breezes so it's often noticeably cooler than outside even without air-conditioning.
Over 18 types of fruit grow in the 3/4 acre garden including the usual suspects like mango, papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, banana and lime but also rare species to Polynesia such as giant South American pink pomelos, cinnamon and cocoa.
Hiking trails, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing and swimming are literally right outside the door. One third of a mile from the main road, the house is quiet, far from any traffic and is perfect for children and active families.

We designed and built the house for our family of four.
I own a pearl farm in the Tuamotus and also shoot photos for NatGeo Creative. My wife Celeste is a travel writer for Lonely Planet guide books. We are currently based in Portland, Oregon USA until our kids (15 and 17) get through high school.
I love to spearfish and surf. I was the president of the local surf club and really enjoyed getting to know the kids and their families who are sprinkled throughout the village.
We raised our kids in our home in Teahupo'o and will forever return for its peace and beauty.
We built our house here because the community is unique in that the people are warm and welcoming to foreigners. The 'End of the Road' has everything we were looking for: tranquility, safety, easy access to the ocean and a river with crystal clear water coming from the mountain.
Unlike other hotels or hostels in the area, ours is the only one that is in the village of Teahupo'o and within easy walking distance of the river, the beach and The Point.
Be sure to wave hello to the friendly neighbors as is the local custom.
"My wife and I absolutely loved our time in Teahupoo at Josh's place. It was relaxing, comfortable/clean accommodations, and a nice change-of-scenery and pace from Moorea. We took advantage of the spacious deck by eating dinner outside and passed our time reading in the hammock while taking in the panoramic view of the ocean. The perfect way to spend the day in paradise on our Honeymoon!"
Thanks to Josh & Celeste, this is one of the best trips my fiancée and I have ever been on. Away from the touristy side of the island, this perfect getaway is literally at the end of the road and sets you up for instant success and relaxation. We were greeted by Theresa and her daughter who live nearby and take care of the property. We followed Theresa on her bicycle to the Green Room and we were immediately in heaven. Beautiful yard with fruit trees, a lush, majestic mountain backdrop, walkable access to the ocean and amazing snorkeling. The Villa itself is incredible. Comfortable and unique, there is a hammock waiting for you on the huge deck where we spent all of our evenings either reading, enjoying the sunset or watching a movie on a laptop. Absolutely serene. The beds are comfy as is the couch. The live tree in the middle of the villa is incredible and sets the mood for a wonderful getaway. We cooked up fresh ahi, spaghetti, yummy drinks and so many other great meals and snacks in the kitchen, all gathered from the local vendors just up the road. Highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience!!
I had one of the most amazing time in Tahiti, largely thanks to my stay at the Green Home Villa. We (my sister and brother in law) got to the entrance gate, were greeted by our neighbor, Theresa whom showed us our way to the house. As we pulled into the property, we were certainly mesmerized by the backdrop.....an unbelievable view of the mountains.
Here are some of the many reasons why the Green Room Villa is such an awesome place to stay:
1) It is situated at "the end of the road" (Teahupo'o) in Tahiti Iti. What does this mean? It's the furthest point which you could travel by car from the capital, Papeete. You really get to experience the culture being so far from the capital.
2) Everyone you meet in that area is extremely friendly! Expect to see lots of smiles, "la oranas" (hello), and waves around this part of town!
3) Great waves for surfing! If you're a surfer, you've probably heard of Teahupo'o waves and you don't want to miss this spot which is really close to the Green Home Villa. If you're like me and are not quite surfer level yet (or at all), get a boat taxi (there's one just walking distance - at the restaurant at the end of the road) to these waves and watch other people surf! I guarantee you'll be wowed.
4) Great snorkeling spots nearby. You don't have to get very far to find a great snorkeling spot. I'm not a great swimmer, so I didn't swim far out, but enjoyed having (almost) daily snorkeling sessions in fairly shallow waters.
5) Last but not least, Green Home Villa itself really has everything you need to make your stay in Tahiti a relaxing and memorable one. The hosts, Josh and Celeste provided us with everything we needed, along with local tips before we even arrived to make sure we fully experienced what Tahiti has to offer.
In terms of the place itself, everything was clean and the beds were comfortable. I even fell asleep on the hammock on the deck the very first day we arrived. There would always be "hammock time" for me everyday :)
There's also a fully functioning kitchen you could use - a plus for those of you who'd like to prepare meals at home to save some $$$.
Oh, and before I forget, there are several fruit trees in the property that you could literally just pluck and eat em fresh!
All in all, I highly recommend the Green Home Villa as it'll allow you to fully experience Tahiti in an unique way!
This house is exceptional, and if you are looking to get away from the touristy stuff and have a little more adventure, this is the perfect place. Our party spoke very little french, but had no trouble at all connecting with the caretaker. The beach is a short walk away, and the river the flows nearby is delightfully cool with some deep pools to soak the heat away in. The most adventurous of our party took a out and back hike up the river to where it splits into two sources, and followed one for a bit too, before returning back. He reports pools up to his neck, rapids, and a wild pig sighting!
Guests should be aware that it is best to hit up the Carrefour on your way in for supplies, keep all food in the refrigerator and away from ants (remove the snacks from your day bags before bed, or you could return to an ant party!) We went in March and it was hot! Showers and dips in the river helped, and the porch was livable even in the hottest part of the day. If you need an air-conditioned respite, we really enjoyed the Chinese food place Restaurant T.K.T Panda in Taravao across from a small market.
Green Room Villa -
I can't say enough about our experience in Tahiti. A group of our friends went this year in August for two weeks, we stayed at the Villa and had the trip of a lifetime.
The house is amazing. It's in the perfect location for a Teahupoo holiday. Josh was extremely helpful and welcoming. He made sure that all of our questions were answered and that our arrival and departure to the house was as easy as possible. He was very responsive and was always available.
Theresa and her daughter were wonderful. They met us at the gate and showed the house even though we flew in late. They made sure that we had everything and solved the Internet issue as soon as we had one. Really amazing people and so nice to have so close.
Really recommend this place for anyone who loves to be around an amazing culture and loves surfing.
Our 3-day stay at Josh's house was the icing on the cake for our trip. The house is located in a beautiful, tranquil area. Even though there are some neighbors nearby, you feel you are all alone in such a great garden, full of exuberant plants and fruit trees - we tried several tropical fruits -, with the lush mountains right at the back. It takes a 5-10 minute walk to get to the beach – and the views are just marvelous.
The house in itself is ample and the internal patio with the tree in the middle is just awesome. The bedrooms were large enough and the beds comfortable. The kitchen has all you need to prepare your meals – even some haute cuisine ingredients!
One highlight is the huge veranda, were we had dinner every day while hearing the waves smashing on the reef.
The youngster somehow regretted that the Internet wasn’t working those days – much to the adults’ delight –, but we were told this was temporary, so hopefully it is already up and running again for those who need it.
All in all, we highly recommend this house on your visit to Tehaupoo.
Thank you, Josh for your kindness and readiness to answer all our questions, and for your clear instructions. See ya next time!
Secluded and very comfortable with easy access to the water and waves. The house is nicely laid out with separate bedrooms and a big kitchen and a nice large covered deck outside for hanging. Tahiti, in general blew my mind and I plan on making it back to this exact location regularly.
Our house is located in the peaceful and laidback town of Teahupo'o at the end of the road in Tahiti. The locals are friendly and not at all jaded to tourism, despite the nearly 16 years that it has been a stop on the World Tour of professional surfing. It's possible to just walk off the beach and snorkel or spearfish in the coral gardens in the bay and in the channel that leads out to sea. Local guides are available to take visitors out for deep sea fishing, big game fishing, whale watching, bird watching and pig hunting. An authentic Polynesian experience is guaranteed.
