Description

Saint-Marcel-Campes Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Private pool, games room, 5 bedrooms, garden, panoramic views. Sports close by

Le Muret is a charmingly restored stone farmhouse with pool. Sleeps 10. Set in two acre grounds, it is totally secluded and has panoramic views over rolling countryside.

The house is set completely in the countryside and is magically quiet and tranquil. However, it is only 10 minutes drive from Cordes-sur-Ciel, voted in 2014 as the best village in France.

The house is in a perfect location for walking and visiting medieval bastide towns. Albi, 20 minutes drive, is a UNESCO world heritage site with a breathtaking cathedral and the Toulouse Lautrec museum.

Le Muret has been restored in traditional French style with spacious oak-beamed rooms.

3 Double bedrooms. 2 large attic rooms, one with double bed and a single bed, other with 5 ft futon and single bed. 2 folding beds (kids only!) Cot. 2 bathrooms (one en-suite). Separate WC on ground floor.

Large well-equipped kitchen/dining room with range cooker (6 ring hob, 2 ovens and a separate grill) and microwave. Hi-fi with huge CD collection.

Large living room with log burning stove. Digital satellite TV/radio, DVD + video. We have both the UK freeview channels and French TV. Further TV, DVD & video in attic. There are many DVDs at the house.

Indoor games room with table-tennis. Separate games box in the kitchen with many games and toys.

Laundry room with washer, drier, freezer. Shaded terrace for outdoor eating. BBQ. Badminton/boules/rounders. Selection of DVDs, videotapes, CDs, board games, jigsaws and hundreds of books. Wifi

In the house you will find a file full of leaflets from the nearby chateaux, museums and outdoor activities. There is full information regarding pony-trekking, donkey hire, carriage rides, canoeing/kayaking, painting courses, hire of bicycles etc. We have also put together a summary of this information, with the necessary phone numbers, to make it easier for guests to plan their time. Should you wish to make any arrangements before you come out, perhaps to enquire about painting courses or long-distance pony-trekking, taxis or bicycle hire, please let us know in good time and we will forward this summary to you.

July and August is the season for village fêtes. Every local town and village of any size has one or more fêtes. Expect sideshows, feasting, music, dancing and fireworks, which can often be seen from the garden. This is also the season of brocante fairs. Local markets are in every sense a feast, and St Antonin (which featured in the film 'Charlotte Gray') with its very large and very popular Sunday market is only thirty minutes away.

The countryside around is perfect for walking. We are close to several long distance GR footpaths including the GR des Gorges du Viaur and the GR 36 Gorges de l'Aveyron, Najac et Cordes. From the house we very much enjoy strolling along the little lanes, enjoying the views of Najac and Cordes and across to the Aveyron Gorges to the west. There is very little traffic on the lanes and such local drivers as you do meet are quite likely to offer you a lift! We have several books of local walks and maps for visitors' use, and have made a note of a few of our favourite walks, some on footpaths, some following the lanes. For those who like river swimming there is an excellent spot at Lagarde-Viaur, about 20 minutes from the house.

Dear Fiona

We are now home and wanted to say a massive thank you for a wonderful holiday. Thank you for leaving the pool open for us, the weather was absolutely fantastic and we did spend many afternoons lazing there. Dennis swam the first week but not the second as overnight the temperatures did plummet. We were fascinated by your pool robot, much better than our pool man in Spain!

Your home there is gorgeous, we loved it so much. We did have UK TV so again thank you because we were able to watch Strictly and spent many a cosy evening in your lovely living room. I loved your kitchen and cooking on your range, I miss it already.

We did get out and about quite a bit, in fact we clocked up over 500 miles. There is so much to see there and the villages and countryside are amazing.

I had so many quiet moments just looking at the views surrounding your house, I used to walk my dogs to the gates each morning in my Pj,s and thought how lucky we were to be there.

.

We met Jacque your gardener and he has dug 85 holes for your trees , they will look fantastic. We really liked him.

Dennis is a very keen amateur photographer and has taken some lovely shots of Le Muret so I will send them onto to you.

Thank you so very much again, you have given us some wonderful memories to treasure.

Kind regards

Betty

Fantastic holiday house, grounds and pool.

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a 2 week, 2 family (9 people) stay at Le Muret, and we all had an absolutely wonderful time. The house, pool and gardens are just lovely, and the secluded setting is beautiful and very peaceful. The kitchen is a lot bigger than it appears in the photos, and the games room (table tennis) was a huge hit with both kids and parents! There's a large and varied selection of CD's and a quality music system in the kitchen, and as you can turn the volume up fairly loudly due to the relative isolation, we really enjoyed the 'sounds' round the pool! There's lots to see and do in the area, and Cordes (the closest main town, about a 10 min drive away) is a lovely place to explore. We had lunch 3 times in the Bistrot Cordais - food is fantastic, reasonably priced, and the staff are very friendly. Would also really recommend the longer (45 min) 'train' tour around the town and immediately surrounding area. All in all, a great holiday, and Le Muret really is as gorgeous as it looks in the photos.

Exactly what we were hoping for. A perfectly situated and comfortable place for us too relax. Located amongst wonderfully peaceful countryside but within striking distance of gems such as Albi our stay here was just perfect. Go looking for interesting places amongst beautiful countryside or retreat to your comfortable residence.

Definitely will return

Splendid isolation

  • 5 of 5

The very finest things about Le Muret are the well kept and spacy grounds,

the lovely flower garden around the pool, the interesting trees planted in the

rear meadow, and - incomparably - the long views over undulating hills, woods and fields. All these will entice us to return. We loved the remoteness

too. Our only company were cows, buzzards, swifts, skylarks, redstarts,

shrike, hoopoes, cuckoos, heron, golden orioles, butterflies, and an

occasional visiting cat of great charm. The district is lovely: roads are

empty, woods thick and dappled, villages unspoiled and ancient, the food

fine and the wine good - and all this with barely a tourist in sight. (How

different from the Dordogne and Lot!) Albi, Cordes and Najac are

world-class gems. The little Auberge de l'Occitane at Monesties provided

good honest lunches at 13 Euros.

Our weather in the last week of May was too cool to use the pool. But

warmth improved as the week passed. Initially, thanks to its thick walls,

the house was colder inside than outside. The heating thermostat carried

fearsome notices not to touch it; but luckily Dom's advice, by phone, saved

us from the chill. The house is old, interesting and externally handsome as

well as spacious (we were four adults and didn't use the attic). The two

bathrooms are capacious and efficient (apart from annoyingly falling toilet seats).

The furniture matches the house's simplicity, and all is clean and well

maintained. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped.

All in all, Le Muret is a lovely place. We recommend it wholeheartedly and

hope to be back.

A wonderful house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Le Muret is clearly a much loved home and the owners have carved out a paradise from the local sylvan environment. The views are breathtaking and there is much pleasure to be gained from watching the passage of French rural life over the rolling valleys. The house is very well kept and full of charming idiosyncrasies.

As a group of six, including two toddlers and two grandparents, we found that the property was perfect for our needs. The generously sized house provided peace to those who needed it and gave the kids plenty of space to play. The children also loved the large garden, which contains lots of different little areas to explore.

We stayed in early April and were happy to find a house suited to the changeable weather, which was sometimes chilly, sometimes glorious, consistently better than it would have been at home. It was quite surprising how much of the landscape we had to ourselves at this time of year and it proved a wonderful time to discover the lush greenery and ancient fabric of the region without having to share our time with thousands of others. We would be back in a heartbeat.

Superb

  • 5 of 5

The house and gardens and huge and beautiful. Set in beautiful countryside with deers coming to the garden fence. We spent every evening outside with a barbecue. The rooms are large and extremely comfortable. Beautiful places to visit and a car is essential. Albi is a must see city. Very sad to have to leave at the end of the week. I have never experienced such a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. You must try for yourself, don't take my word for it.

Our nearest town is Cordes-sur-Ciel (10 minutes) and we are 30 minutes from Najac and St Antonin-Noble-Val. These are fascinating medieval bastide towns, full of interest and activities. Albi, with its cathedral, Toulouse-Lautrec museum, restaurants, etc. is about 20 minutes away, and we are well placed for trips to many other bastide towns and the Gaillac vineyards. This is an area where villages tend to be ancient medieval settlements and pigeonniérs are found dotted about the fields.

Cordes was voted one of the best villages in France and has a variety of restaurants, several hotels, a wonderful patisserie, butchers, banks, ironmongers, toyshop, garages and a newspaper and bookshop. English newspapers are generally on sale the day after publication. In the summer months there is also a variety of specialist food/wine shops and art and local craft shops. There is a very attractive and useful market on Saturday mornings. There are also several interesting museums and the renowned 'Jardin des Paradis' gardens.
