3 bedroom bungalow in a small hamlet in the heart of the Dordogne countryside

“Petit Reve” is situated in the picturesque hamlet of Braulen Haut with splendid views of the surrounding Dordogne countryside. It is just 10 minutes drive from Sarlat, which is regarded as the tourist capital of the Perigord Noir, and within easy reach of the many attractions in the area.

Guests say the spacious covered patio and pool, right next to the house, are key strengths of our property. Whether relaxing with a good book, sunbathing, dining ‘al fresco’ or having fun in the pool, you have the perfect facilities you need for an enjoyable holiday. The garden has grassed areas where children can play safely.

Indoors, the rooms are modern and light. The lounge has plenty of space for relaxing and dining. A good-quality TV receives the range of English channels on Freeview, with a DVD player and a good range of films. The internet connection is a good speed. The three double bedrooms ensure that sleeping arrangements are separate from the rest of the house.

It’s modern living in a beautiful rural setting!

Getting there:

By car – Takes about 8 hours, in one stint, from Calais. Find the A20 motorway heading south to Limoges and Brive. Take the exit 55 for Souillac, just south of Brive, and the house is about 25 minutes away. We’ll send you clear directions.

By air – If you do not fancy the drive, there are cheap flights available from various British airports to Brive (30 mins) NEW RYANAIR SERVICE FROM STANSTEAD TO BRIVE began April 2014, Bergerac (90 mins) and Limoges (2hrs) where you can hire a car.

If you are prepared to travel light, the cost of flights + a hire car can be much cheaper than driving, particularly out of season. My last 9-day visit, October 2015, Liverpool to Limoges, flights = £45 return (Ryanair), parking at airport = £40, hire car = £190 (VW Polo).

We had camped and caravaned near Sarlat since 1987. We fell in love with the area almost immediately. The beautiful villages and country markets; the stunning scenery; the wide range of events and activities, particularly in the summer. So ... we decided to buy a house.

Why George Crowther chose Perigord Noir

We wanted a property that would be easy to maintain and great for summer holidays with our family; it had to be fairly near Sarlat, because it's the most fantastic town; and it had to be in a peaceful rural setting. It took us almost two years to find the right house, but 'Petit Reve' (Little Dream) fulfilled all our needs, and more!

What makes this bungalow unique

Location, location, location! Braulen Haut is a very sleepy hamlet, but it's smack bang in the centre of the most beautiful tourist area. Ten minutes to Sarlat (follow my route on the back roads to avoid the summer traffic), five minutes to the river, and close to lots of the main tourist attractions in the area. Ironically, as we've seen it all, we're not great sightseers now. Give me a cold beer, a game of petanque, a dip in the pool and a good meal, and that's my idea of a great day!

porte bien son nom : Le petit rêve ! George et Janet, les propriétaires, ont

pour objectif que leurs locataires passent les meilleurs vacances possibles !

Objectif atteint !

La maison est idéalement placée pour les nombreuses visites

mais permet aussi de se relaxer autour de la piscine et de profiter des nombreux

équipements.

En bref, nous y retournerons avec grand plaisir !

Lovely place, private, quiet, beautiful

We stayed for a week and found the location easily with the directions, house and pool were both clean and welcoming, some food was in the freezer and in the fridge which helped us before we managed to get to the supermarket.

Bedrooms were spacious and warm, living room is large with comfy sofas and UK Sky television channels. Garage has a washing machine, tumble dryer, freezer and spare towels. Kitchen was fully equipped and has a larder with an extra fridge for drinks. Remember to replace drinks taken out of courtesy.

The pool is large and great for lengths or just splashing, lilos and rings were supplied. A barbecue is also supplied but we never needed to fire this up.

The surroundings are mainly farmland and taking a drive around you will get to see beautiful countryside. E.Leclerc supermarket is a short 5 minute drive away and has everything you need, Sarlat has a beautiful market and medieval architecture and an hour's drive is Rocamadour, which is a stunning little village built into a cliffside, definitely worth taking a visit.

Overall a really enjoyable stay, would definitely consider going back, owner was very helpful, highly recommended.

Country tranquillity

The property is exactly as described, and we found it lovely and clean awaiting our arrival, and we found the cupboards well stocked. There are lots of places worth visiting near to the property but a car is a must. The beds were really comfy and despite some incredibly hot weather the bedrooms stayed fairly comfortable for sleeping. The property was like home from home, and we enjoyed most of our meals on the patio, watching the cows and chickens on the neighbouring farm. The kids found the pool to be a bit cold but we had a wonderful relaxed holiday!

A beautiful holiday home

A beautiful holiday home

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely relaxing week at this immaculately kept holiday home. We flew into Brive airport, which was ideal as it was only 35-40minutes from the property. The house had everything we could possibly need, including food and drinks in the fridge on arrival, so we didn't need to rush out and find a supermarket. The pool and outside area is amazing, just what we needed. George left fantastic instructions for getting to various site seeing spots. Belves and Monpazier were a couple of the highlights. We also went canoeing one day which was also very picturesque and highly recommended.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We chose Petit Reve on the basis of the reviews on this site (as well as the lovely picture of the pool) and we weren’t disappointed. The house was immaculately clean with three spacious bedrooms and a large nicely furnished living room /diner. George had left the fridge stocked with food which was hugely appreciated as we didn’t arrive until quite late on the Saturday evening. There was also a drinks fridge with beer and wine and plenty of instructions from George on how things worked and where to find things.

One of the main highlights of the property is the pool/patio area which is perfect for the relaxing, cooling off and eating in the evenings. Everything you need is in the property including an internet connection which unfortunately we couldn’t test as we hadn’t brought our laptop. All of the freeview English TV channels are also available together with a DVD player and good selection of DVDs.

The property is also well located for most of the main attractions in the area. We flew into Brive and it was a straightforward 40 minute drive to the house, Sarlat was 20 minutes away by car and the Supermarket only a 10 minute drive. George had given us lots of really helpful suggestions and directions some of which we tried out with great success. I would definitely recommend a canoe trip along the Dordogne, we used a different company to the one recommended by George but it was excellent and the scenery truly breathtaking.

We would definitely stay at Petit Reve again and are considering a return in 2016.

the perfect place for a perfect holiday

Well you have read the other reviews, believe me when I say that this property is as good as every one says. Petit Reve was spotlessly clean, well stocked with everything you need. Perfectly situated near the fantastic City of Salat, this is a brilliant place to visit, explore and dine out in. The surrounding countryside holds a host of fantastic places to visit.

George is the perfect host, in his information provided in the house, he doesn't make recommendations, but suggestions. These are worth checking out. When I explained that we were driving from Calais George made a suggestion for the route to take. Again he was perfectly on the ball, saving time and money.

If you are looking for a perfect place to holiday in then this is the place to stay, you will not be disappointed. A car is essential to make the most out of your holiday, and to explore the beautiful dordogne region.

I am hoping that we can visit again next year, this is the first place that we have wanted to return to, there is still so much to discover.

If you have someone in your party who has difficulty in getting around then this is the perfect accommodation for your holiday, some of the towns and cities are difficult to manoeuvre a wheelchair in, but the local people are fantastic and go out of the way to help.

I could make suggestions for where to visit on your holiday in this beautiful part of France, but discover the place for your self. I would fully recommend this house, five stars out of five is not enough to rate this place of perfection. I give it 12 out of 10

“Petit Reve” is located in a quiet hamlet, just out of earshot of the road between Sarlat (10km) and Souillac (20km), which makes for easy access to the many places to visit in the area.

Sarlat will be your abiding memory of this holiday - it's the prime location in the Perigord Noir. It has more medieval buildings per square mile than any other town in Europe and an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars. The market each Saturday is amazing and, in summer, the street entertainers in the evening are marvellous.

Far too many day trips to mention them all, but canoeing (for softies) on the Dordogne is popular, there is an outdoor pursuits centre 5 minutes from the house, more chateaux than you can shake a stick at, and a country market in one town/village or another on almost every day of the week.

The local food is scrumptious - we'll recommend lots of places to eat to suit all budgets.

Musts – Saturday market in Sarlat; Lascaux Caves (30 mins); Domme (30 mins) market on Thursday and viewpoint over the Dordogne valley; Rocamadour (1 hour) a medieval town perched high on a rocky outcrop, is the most visited site in France after Versailles; Monpazier a bastide town with a medieval festival in July.

The local English-speaking paper, 'The Connexion', had this article in July 2012.

'Sarlat footpath network opens - Around 300km of footpaths have been officially opened in the 13 communes around Sarlat. There are several circuits, which are linked together by adjoining paths. Maps for each commune can be found in the local tourist offices. There are plans to publish a map showing routes for the whole of the Sarlat area.'

Footpaths in the area are well marked, and the GR6 (Grand Randonee), a trans-France footpath runs through this area. Great walking and great grub in the villages; particularly good in spring and autumn when the weather is not too hot.

The house has a large living room, with a dining area at one end, and a stone fireplace with a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings. The south-facing aspect of the house has a spacious covered patio. This is next to the large 10mx5m swimming pool which, with its roman steps, is ideal for young children. The outdoor area provides perfect facilities for a relaxing holiday, where you can cool off, snooze or read your book in privacy. The kitchen window looks out over farmland and woods, with glimpses of typically-Perigordian houses and farms. It is suitably equipped with fitted units, a cooker and fridge (washer, tumble-dryer and freezer in the garage), with ample space for cooking and occasional dining. A small room next to the kitchen acts as your larder, drinks-cooling room (another fridge) and a place to keep the loungers.
