Beautiful French gites set in magnificent surroundings - The Mill House

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

The Mill House

The Mill House is a typical French property which has been updated in recent years. It has three double bedrooms a bathroom and separate shower & toilet. Downstairs there is a large lounge a dining room that seats eight people and a bright modern kitchen. The views from all the room are absolutely stunning, looking out over the fields and woodlands beyond. We have been told this year that our pool is one of the best in the Limousin. The pool is 15x10 and has an all weather cover which means it can be used even in heavy rain. No problems for us as the pool has still been well used by children and adults alike. If a pool is high on your list of priorities, then this is surely the one.

About the property

Well equiped Self catering gites with pool, tennis court ,garden & b-b-q.

La Bourdalaine is a small hamlet set in the heart of the Ambazac Hills about 15k north of Limoges. The hamlet is set in 7.5 acres of the most beautiful & romantic woodlands on the side of a hill that goes down to a small river. In spring you can see all the the trout & salmon swimming upstream. There are 2 gites both of which are completely individual. The Mill House is stunning and is set half way up the hill looking down over the river and woodland beyond. Hooper House is a really beautiful gite with three bedroom all en suite a large kitchen diner and a living room. It is set next to the main house and has a truly wonderful outside space in the middle of all the woodlands of Bourdalaine. If you are having A BBQ in the evenings it is a good time to spot the deer grazing. Both gites are within easy access to the pool but secluded enough not to hear noise from it. We have been told that it is the best pool in the Limousin outside of public ones. This is self catering holiday heaven.

Walking & Mountain Biking: The Ambazac Hills are ideal for both walking and mountain biking, both of which you can do from the front door without ever stepping into a car. For those of you that just want a gentle stroll there are plenty of country walks through the woods and around Lake Jonas, but if you are a little bit more active you can take off into the hills for a good days hiking or mountain biking. We have 10 mountain bikes on site for all age groups and these are free for you to use while on your holiday.

Horse Riding & Swimming: St. Pardoux

A water sports heaven!

Close to Saint Pardoux is the lake of the same name, which is one of the largest and best loved leisure lakes in the region. If you enjoy water sports there can be no better place than this… you can choose from sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, water-skiing and swimming! For the less energetic there are lovely safe beaches around the lake where you can enjoy the sunshine and unpolluted air.

Muret is a large country club with a magnificent riding center, tennis squash , bar & restaurant. It is set in the most beautiful countryside and is an ideal place for a family day out. You can arrange for a horse riding lesson or for the more experienced, book a full days guided trekking.

Fishing: If you want to while away the hours fishing while your family are enjoying the pool at La Bourdalaine, this is surely the place for you. We are surrounded by stunning lakes that are teeming with fish and it quite easy to get either a day or weekly pass from a number of places in and around Ambazac. Lake Jonas, which is a five minute walk from us, is one that comes to mind. It is a beautiful lake to fish and has a variety of fish in it. We have seen huge carp jumping out of the water for flies.

A stunning property ideal for your family holiday. The garden is perfect for bar-b-ques on those warm summer evenings and it is ideal for your pet if you want to bring it with you. We don't just consider pets, we positively welcome them. We do not make any extra charge for your pets and it is the ideal environment for them. Here at Bourdalaine we know how difficult it is to find somewhere to take your pet without a lot of restrictions being put on you and a lot of extra cost. Rest assured, this is the perfect place for you and for them. P.S. If you are bring your pet/pets, don't forget to get the appropriate paper work. We can give you more details if needed.

Excellent! Rural France at its best !

The hostess is so welcoming and the facilities are excellent, the pool is gorgeous, very well maintained.

The place is perfectly situated for a peaceful holiday but a stones throw from the local town and close to many tourist attractions!

We plan to visit often.

Fantastic authentic experience of France

  • 5 of 5

We, a family with 4 children, stayed in the Mill House during the first two weeks in July 2010. We could not recommend this property and the site highly enough. The house is full of traditional charm, well equipped and very comfortable. We particularly enjoyed eating out in the shade under the solid and large gazebo in the private garden area to the front of the house. The sound of running water from the stream to the mill wheel is very relaxing.

The pool is splendid, larger than you would expect and very well kept.

the owners are on site, Andy and Louise. They are the perfect hosts, balancing the sometimes conflicting demands of being attentive whilst giving privacy and space. We would all like to thank them for a perfect holiday in perfect surroundings. Every time we arrived back from a day out, we immediately became relaxed as the house and its surroundings are so peaceful.

Weather was also beautiful when we were there which was a great bonus.

We would not hesitate to go back at some time of the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely comments. It is so nice to know that we have helped to make your holiday a good one because we know it is always difficult when you have children of different ages to please and keep entertained. It was nice for us to hear everybody in the pool enjoying themselves (some to much Susie, hope the back is ok now) and generally to know that the children could come and go as they pleased and be safe. Thank you again and we look forward to seeing you all again sometime in the future. Andrew & Louise

Graham Angie and girls, Bolton

Just returned from a fantastic week in this wonderful part of the world. This area really is purest France so take your phrasebook and make sure you get directions in advance as the properties are way off the beaten track. We went for a ''get away from it all'' week with our three girls (15, 12 and 8) and got exactly that. Our girls were in tears when we had to leave and all said that they preferred France to our annual AI trip to the Canaries. The three dogs are real characters and like to be involved in everything. The properties are clean, spacious and well equipped and the pool is excellent. The holiday was made , however , by Louise and Andrew who simply could not do enough for you, even organising an impromptue barbie for my birthday - thanks again folks.

We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review , it is so nice to hear that you all enjoyed your holiday so much but, I have to say, it was an absolute pleasure to have you here. The three girls will stay in our hearts for ever because they were so happy and full of fun. We never once saw them miserable. we miss hearing them all playing and laughing in the pool and it was so sad when you had to leave on Sunday. We will look forward to seeing you all again in the future and even if you decide to try somewhere else , you will always be welcome to come and have see us and have a bbq and few drinks. I hope you all had good trip home and that the girls are not to sad.

We had a fantastic week in Rose Cottage, which was spacious and clean and was beautifully situated in ample grounds. Our daughters made friends with the children from the other two families staying in the other gites and had a great time, though the properties are private enough to enjoy your own space as well. The grounds are extensive and the pool and tennis court were fabulous.

The village is a 5 minute drive and has a number of boulangeries, supermarkets and bars/restaurants.

This was a great place to get away from it all and we would recommend it to friends.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments Damien. It was a really fabulous week in a fabulous season. I still have a picture in my head of everyone, (including the dogs) playing rounders on the field, We were all sorry to see you go on the Saturday morning and would have liked you all to have been there for Judes birthday party on the Thursday (one of the children from The Mill House). The water slide in the pool finally gave up the ghost, I think six children going down it at once just proved to much for it. Not to worry though, we have something bigger and better up our sleeves for next year. This year being our first proper year for holiday rentals was a bit daunting, but once everyone started arriving it just got better and better. I can't wait for next year.

Rose Cottage June 2009

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 3 year old daughter, 6 year old dog and I all had a lovely stay in Rose Cottage. The cottage is very big and the owners plan to renevate it to an even better standard. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the pool and tennis courts every day. There were swings in our large private garden and the lake with man made beach just 5 mins walk from the cottage was great fun. My only other thought is that the drive into Rose Cottage is a little steep in places and as it is a track rather than a road it could be quite difficult to get out of in the rain.

We would definately recommend a stay in one of the cottages at La Bourdalaine. The owners are lovely and very welcoming.

Ambazac is a small village about 15k north of Limoges. Limoges is the capital city of the Limousin area and is famous for its pottery & beautiful china. Limoges has a history dating back some 2000 years and there are many sites to see while you are here, the St Etiene cathedral being just one them. There are many bars and restaurants all over the city and hundreds of individual shops (no chains) that make it a joy to explore. After a busy days sight seeing and shopping in Limoges you will return to Ambazac & La Bourdaine. Ambazac is small village but has everything you need on a day to day basis. There are two very good supermarkets and several excellent bakers. There are a couple of bars and a really nice restaurant. Once back at Bourdaline you can totally relax and unwind. It is a truly stunning place set in seven and half acres of woodland with our own small lake. if things are quiet in the evening, it is not unusual to see the deer grazing in the field by pool.
