About Mike Lambert

I grew up spending summers on Torch Lake around the corner from Clam Lake. My family moved fulltime to Petoskey in 1985. I have always loved the chain-of-lakes for the natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

Mike Lambert purchased this cabin in 1988

Why Mike Lambert chose Northern Michigan

The cabin's privacy and location on Clam Lake made it an opportunity too good to pass up. I intend to pass on the property to my children.

What makes this cabin unique

The cottage was built in the 1950s by a company known for building cottages with character in the area. I was drawn by the wood paneling, screened porch and covered boat slip.

Very nice

  • 4 of 5

Overall our stay was good. The owner was very nice and helpful. Because the weather was very warm it made it somewhat uncomfortable without air conditioning. This was my fault for not inquiring before hand and no one would expect it to be almost 90% at the end of August and early in September. The boat dock was great and Mike gave us access to the pontoon boat at a great price, no charge.

Thank you Mike!

Owner's Response: John, Thank you for your feedback. The weather was indeed hot and, like you, we have no air conditioning ourselves. I hope the fans were at least a little helpful. We're glad you enjoyed using the pontoon boat. Thank you for your visit. We hope to see you again soon, with more seasonable weather! Sincerely, Mike

Another great vacation on Clam Lake

  • 5 of 5

We have vacationed on Clam Lake for over two decades and have enjoyed our stays in this cabin most of all. Very peaceful location, close to Torch and Bellaire Lakes. Good boating with plenty to see. Very natural Grass river minutes away with good fishing! Great family location. The Dockside is always fun, Dewitt Marine and Butch's are just down the road.

Owner's Response: Irish Mike, Thanks so much for your positive feedback! I'm glad you repeatedly choose Clam House for your visits to the area. It's also nice to hear that you enjoy Grass River, the Dockside, Butch's, DeWitts, and the beauty of the area. We hope the fishing was good on this visit, and that it will be on your next visit also. The odds are good! I appreciate your return business and your enthusiasm. It's been great to get to know you and your family. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to share your experiences. Sincerely, Mike

Great Cabin & Close to Torch Lake

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is a great place to get away and relax. We brought our boat and enjoyed the boat house, fire pit, cabin and close proximity to Torch Lake. There are plenty of opportunities to explore the lakes. We took a few rides down the Torch River and into Elk Lake too. Dinner at Dockside is always a must as part of the trip. The owner is very friendly and is at the property daily. Our only suggestion is that it would be appreciated if he didn't make his visit in the early morning. We were often woken up due to noises and talking in the yard. Overall, it was a great trip. We even made friends with the guests staying at the resort next door which added to our entertainment for the week. Bellair is a great little town and we also recommend breakfast at the Lunch Box. We truly enjoyed our stay at the property and recommend it for anyone.

Owner's Response: Cheryl, Thank you for feedback on your second visit to Clam House. I'm glad you and your family had a good time. I apologize for disturbing the sleep of your guests, maybe the ones sleeping in the tent? I didn't know my shop radio could be heard. Thank you again for your helpful feedback. We hope to see you back here soon! Sincerely, Mike

Cottage retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is our idea of what a cabin on the lake should be. It's not modern or fancy but just perfect for the north woods experience. Our host Mike was so welcoming toward our dogs and even put a ramp in the water for our aging Golden Retriever who refused to jump off the very low dock! He has a pontoon boat available for a very reasonable rental price. Mike grew up summering in the area so has knowledge of wonderful places to visit and great restaurants. He is concerned with his guests having a nice experience. The cabin is just as pictured and described in the listing. We are looking forward to returning next year!

Grass River Natural Area
Car: recommended

The property is in a scenic area on a chain-of-lakes 67 miles long. Clam Lake runs into Torch Lake which National Geographic named the 3rd most beautiful lake in the world! Clam Lake also runs into the Grass River Nature Preserve - a beautiful preserve including the river and a large protected section of land which fronts on the river and has great walking trails! The preserve has an education center and offers terrific nature programs for all ages. It is handicap accessible.

The area is full of old growth trees which give you a sense of peace and tranquility. The trees are beautiful all year but in each season the landscape changes into fall colors, winter snow, spring wildflowers, and summer shade. The cabin's location is also surprisingly near sensational golf and ski resorts, gambling casinos with headliner entertainment, the small towns of Bellaire and Alden, the nearby cities of Traverse, Charlevoix, Petoskey, Harbor Springs. There are shops filled with one-of-a-kind pieces and ready for you from the budget shopper on up! Dining in the area is terrific: lots of great restaurants from ice cream parlors to 4 star gourmet cuisine. Every visitor will be very happy they came. Something wonderful for the young and not so young, casual or intense fitness, and land-lubber or water enthusiast. Families return year after year, generation after generation to this rare and beautiful area. Kayaks and pontoon boat available. Inquire about rates for pontoon boat.
