Casa Do Mira has been tastefully renovated, still retaining a rustic charm with hand made traditional terracotta flooring throughout and accompanying marble. Yet it has all the modern conveniences to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible.
We have a beautiful roof terrace complete with barbecue. On the roof are benches, tables and chairs and stunning views to both the River Mira and the coast.
The beautiful village of Vila Nova de Milfontes is situated on the estuary of the River Mira in the Alentejo Region of Portugal. It is still relatively undiscovered and retains its Portuguese charm, quite different from the more developed areas of the Algarve.
The village is located in one of the most preserved regions of the European coast with beautiful sandy unspoilt beaches, hidden coves and clear waters.
For those of you who like to explore further afield, there is the historic town of Odemira which is a 15 minute drive and is situated on a hill over the River Mira. Or you can discover some of the best Roman ruins in Europe situated in Evora. For those of you who wish to enjoy shopping and sightseeing the beautiful capital city of Lisbon is just 190 kms away. Alternatively, travelling south to the Algave, the town of Lagos can be reached within one and a half hours. For nature lovers you can travel inland through the protected cork forests to the lakes where if you are very lucky you can spot the very rare black storks.
The coastal strip surrounding Vila Nova De Milfontes boasts impressive beaches and coves such as Almograve, Zambujeira do Mar and Cabo Sardao where storks nest in the cliffs that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.
Our guests are able to enjoy the many restaurants and bars, and sample the delights of Portuguese cuisine and wine. So within a short stroll of the house there are many outdoor cafes and restaurants offering fresh seafood, particularly at the beach restaurants where you can experience the delights of the barbecued sea bream to be accompanied by local Alentejo wines. The village square offers entertainment in the main summer months. The river is good for water sports, kayaking and boat trips. There is also a small ferry service across the estuary to the large sandy beaches of Furnas.
During August, the village is very popular and is visited by both Portuguese and foreign holiday makers, and so becomes a very lively place to enjoy.
We enjoyed our stay in Casa do Mira. I congratulate you for your good taste, the decoration is very nice.
Everything was ready and gathered for a good stay.
We are loving the Alentejo coast and all beaches from Zambujeira to Sines.
We appreciated to be in the center of the city.
We stayed in Casa do Mira for a week in June and had a wonderful time. It was our first time in the Alentejo and we loved Vila Nova de Milfontes and the house and hope to return one day soon. Casa do Mira was perfect, even better than the photos suggested, well-decorated with beautiful views from the roof terrace and ideally located in the village for the beaches, restaurants and local shops. Thanks also to Karen who welcomed us on arrival and also recommended some great restaurants.
We stayed at Casa do Mira for 11 nights. It was lovely, all the equipment you could want. Three places to sit out, so you had sun all day. We had wonderful views of the river and sea from the roof terrace. The house is quite close to the town centre with lots of restaurants and cafes. There is lots of spectacular walking not too far away, in fact the holiday was perfect.

What you get here is even better than the listing suggests. It is a perfect little villa for two in a delightful location in the historic heart of a charming seaside/riverside resort, mainly patronised by discerning Portuguese visitors. It is very well-maintained and equipped and you are supported by a most helpful local manager. On the ground floor the kitchen leads onto a pretty little courtyard garden and the big bedroom on the first floor has a balcony overlooking the street (good people watching) and down to the sea. The crowning glory is the top floor roof terrace with views over the sea and river and a barbecue (provided you are OK with a spiral staircase).
The villa is just across the street from arguably the best restaurant in town, and there are lots of other excellent eating-out opportunities from beachside fish restaurants to many varieties of cuisines in town. At the same time you can dive into the wonderful daily (mornings) covered market for a stunning array of fish, meat and vegetables and top up with other stuff from a number of supermarkets, which are also open on Sunday mornings.
If you are not totally beguiled by the delights of Milfontes itself and the beaches across the river, accessed by a little ferry, there are other amazing beaches up and down the coast and hill towns inland in the Alentejo to visit.
So, an unqualified yes!

We really enjoyed our stay in La Casa de Mira. The house is good equiped, everything you need, it is there. The roofterrace was a surprice. It is on a perfect location.
The beach is nearby and every evening there was an event near the castle. There was a clown, music, a fire-eater etc.
It is only a pitty that there was no internet. But there are a lot of cafes with internet.
My husband and myself stayed in Casa Do Mira for twelve nights and loved it from the moment we entered. The house is exactly as seen in the photos, very well maintained, very clean with lovely decor. The bedroom is especially nice, spacious and bright. Everything is provided for a self catering holiday. The outdoor spaces are great. The little courtyard off the kitchen is lovely for morning coffee. The roof terrace has all day sunshine and a great BBQ. We loved the balcony off the bedroom. We enjoyed sitting here with a glass after a day out or late evening watching the world go by. Its location is fantastic. A short walk to many different beaches. Wonderful restaurants on your doorstep. Ritual, Paparoca, Morais and Colmeia are all very good and great prices. The shops and supermarkets are all within walking distance. We loved buying our fish, meat, fruit and veg in the great indoor food market where all the locals shop, again within walking distance. Parking nearby was never a problem.
Mandy provided excellent customer service at all times and I must compliment her on her directions for finding the house. We drove from Faro which is a very pleasant drive. Overall we were totally satisfied with the property and would have no hesitation in recommending it to family or friends. We would be sure to book again if we return to Milafontes. Vila Nova de Milafontes is a great place for a holiday if you enjoy a wide choice of fantastic uncrowded beaches, great restaurants, walks along the many beautiful coastal paths, driving to nearby sleepy Portuguese villages and small towns, and experiencing the wonderful Portuguese hospitality without the mass tourism. Alentejo is certainly a beautiful part of Portugal.
The accomodation was excellent, clean and well maintained, exactly as described and shown in the photos. It is in a very good location, close to the beach. Good supermarkets, a food indoor market and restaurants are all within walking distance.
The beautiful village of Vila Nova de Milfontes is situated on the estuary of the River Mira in the Alentejo Region of Portugal. It is still relatively undiscovered and retains its Portuguese charm, quite different from the more developed areas of the Algarve. It is approximately a one hour and thirty minute drive from Faro airport.
Although we do not have allocated parking, there is parking within close proximity to the house, either by the beach or in the side streets.
