Great spot!

  • 4 of 5

Super convenient location, quiet, beautiful view out the first floor doors. Do wish we'd known to bring drinking water. I'd definitely stay there again!

Nice lake, rundown cottage

  • 1 of 5

The property is old, smells musty. You can't drink the water and the owner did leave some plastic jugs with water in them. The shower water doesn't smell good. I felt dirty after using it. The toilet doesn't always flush. The bed is a full size. The couch has no arms on it which makes it uncomfortable to sit on. We left early. All in all not a very good experience. The houses are so close together they almost touch. Maybe 8 feet apart. The lake is full of seaweed. I am really surprised that VRBO shows this with 4 stars because if you read the reviews, most of them are negative. The pictures posted don't tell the real story.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that your stay was not pleasant. I have totally renovated the cottage and remodeled inside. The kitchen is now conveniently located for easy access to the patio for easy enjoyment of the lake. All flooring upstairs has been redone and all new windows installed. On the outside of the cottage new vinyl siding has been also installed. After all the remodeling and repairs, i had a professional cleaner come in and clean the cottage. I hope for your return in the future and enjoy your visit.

Just Fine for a Weekend

  • 3 of 5

Three friends and I stayed here for a long weekend while attending the Finger Lakes Fiber Fest in Hemlock. The location was great, and having the glass doors and patio go right out to the lake was beautiful. The space was adequate, beds were comfortable, and having the full kitchen to cook was very convenient. A little musty, but not dirty. It is not luxury accommodation, but the price was right and it fit our needs for the weekend getaway.

Other reviewers have mentioned the water being bad. Please note that it is well water, and thus has a sulfur smell and taste. I don't think it's harmful as some have suggested, just not pleasant to consume. We brought a few gallon jugs of water for drinking and cooking. The tap water was fine for washing dishes, brushing teeth, etc. The lake was a bit stagnant while we were there, so I likely wouldn't have swam in it, but it was just fine for boating. Another thing to note is that there were no sheets provided for the pull-out couch downstairs.

Nearby businesses we recommend are Mill Creek Cafe for Sunday breakfast (fantastic) and the Cornerstone Market for cheese, beer, and homemade cannolis.

Bacteria in Lke Water, House Water has Bad Smell.

  • 1 of 5

If you have Kids Don't Stay here for their Saftey, The Water has Bacteria and Smells very Bad! We booked for one Week. When we got there she was cleaning. So we went to the park down the street that has a small beach. The Health Dept. had posted "BEACH CLOSED FOR SWIMMING" signs all over. We spoke to a worker there, she told us BACTERIA was in the water. We went back to the house and found out that the Water coming out of the Tap was Foul smelling. There is no Water Filter. The toilet smells when you flush. We couldn't shower because we didn't want to smell bad. We have kids and didn't let them swim there. We found a clean lake nearby for the kids to swim. That being said my 7 yr old fell off the dock when Dad was fishing for fun. So he had to change clothes right away. He had loose BM for 4 days. I cant prove the Water made him sick, but I think if you have a Heath problem like a cold coming on it is not a good idea to swim in that lake at the house. We were disappointed. The finger Lakes has a lot to do so we spent everyday doing activities away from the house. We had to sleep there though. I wiont rent this house again, but I will go to Finger Lakes area again in a different house. I think the Owner should warn people on the Website! a small note on a cabinet saying "Don't Drink Water" is not good enough. Thank you.
