About The Owner

As busy professionals in the real estate and design fields along the west coast, we love to spend time at China Mountain House whenever we can. After traveling all over the world and seeing numerous amazing sights, both of us can say that the view from the house will hold it's own to any other we've ever seen!

Why The Owner chose Coastal Oregon

We love the fact that we can still have a bit of an urban feel in the midst of some truly spectacular nature.

What makes this house unique

There is so much to do within a 100 mile radius that you can have incredible adventures every day and never repeat one after 2 months! From golf at the world-renowned Bandon Dunes to incredible beaches to the Redwoods to world-class fishing on the Rogue River, the house makes a perfect base for you to explore the remarkable coastline.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful stay at your house. The house is beautiful and the location is amazing. I don't know how three days could pass so quickly with me doing almost nothing. I couldn't even finish a book, I was so at peace. This is a remarkable place! Thank you.

Beautiful home, unbelievable views!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures don't even do this property justice! Beautiful home design, all the amenities you could want and the views are breathtaking. We wanted time away from the city and this home was the perfect retreat. The way the house is positioned you never even see or notice the neighbors - just beautiful greenery and the ocean. The only downside is the wifi struggles to reach the entire house but I'm sure that is just apart of being away from major cities, which is what we wanted. Can't wait to stay again, we hope to make this a yearly visit!

Very nice

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice home, with spectacular views. We enjoyed our stay here. We were looking for a place where we could do nothing except sleep and watch movies, (we have 10 kids). This is a great movie house because of the 10 foot screen and projector and they have a good collection of movies...a few hundred movies.. The kitchen is great. The master bedroom is awesome. We will likely return.

I would like to mention a few things that are not clear in the advertisement, and or that could be remedied.

1. The DVD player was quite glitchy. With diligence, I was able to always get it going, but sometimes it took 15 minutes to get a movie to play.

2. From the pictures I really thought this was a secluded house with great privacy. Although the location is somewhat secluded, there are a few houses very close by. One house is less than 100 ft from the home, and we felt the need to use the drapes. When you are looking out the fabulous windows facing the ocean, there is a feeling of seclusion however.

4. The ocean is not accessible from the house. However, access is a very short drive away.

5. The giant movie screen/projector set up is fabulous except it can't be used during daylight. There is too much sunlight and it washes out the projection. Most people probably don't care about this because they are actually doing something other than watching movies during the day. And, fortunately, a tv is provided which can be watched during the day.

Gary, thank you again for the use of your home. We met Gary at the home, and he was very nice and helpful. We look forward to coming back again.

Owner's Response: We enjoyed the fact that you were able to have a weekend away at our house from your extremely busy schedule, David! As to your list, we have a few comments. We completely agree with you about the DVD player and have just received a new unit along with a new stereo receiver that we will be installing. There are 2 other structures that you can see from the house - our guest house to the north and a residence to the south. We designed the house in such a way that we have the primary windows facing west toward the ocean so that we naturally concentrate on the view (and we have drapes to hide those structures in the master bedroom). We are on a bluff 200 feet above the ocean so it is either a 12 minute walk down the access road or a short drive to the beach. Finally, we know what you mean about using the movie screen during the day. We designed the house to have the maximum amount of daylight so that even on an overcast or rainy day the rooms are still very bright. We appreciate the care you took with the house and look forward to hosting you again in the future!

Amazing views...inside and out

  • 5 of 5

The property has spectacular views of the ocean. Waking up in the morning to that ocean view is therapeutic. The house itself is also a work of art. The modern style is a nice change of pace. The amenities of the home are spectacular. The large drop down movie screen is perfect for dark nights, and just a fun addition. The kitchen is well stocked. Perfect for a peaceful getaway weekend and we will definitely return.

Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Gary & Jennifer for a wonderful stay and for being accommodating when we had questions. The house is immaculate, uncluttered and has got an amazing modern feel to it. We loved the comfortable bed, waking up with a view of the ocean was so serene and beautiful. The house has everything we needed, we throughly enjoyed using the kitchen & dining table. We wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you for a cozy home away from home :).

Absolutely awesome

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this beautiful home as a place to spend our babymoon. We wanted somewhere secluded and quiet so we could relax as much as possible. I can't even believe how perfect it was. We fell asleep and woke up to the sounds of waves crashing, we spent our days and nights lounging about, cooking, and watching movies. The outdoor deck was just what we needed to let the dog out to run around, and the town was close enough so that my husband could run and grab whatever supplies we needed. Gary was easy to get in touch with and always helpful, and our security deposit was refunded promptly. The home itself is incredibly beautiful, with every appliance you could need and wonderful design, decoration, and materials choices. It's also a wonderful place for stargazing - we saw the brightest shooting star either of us had ever seen. I'm so grateful we found this home!

The WOW factor!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed May 18 thru May 27, 2015, but nine days were not enough!!! Ready to hurry back.

If you would like the experience of living in a beautifully designed modern art gallery/home with incredible ocean views, this is the place!! Gary and Jennifer -

thank you for the creative design work. The beds were VERY comfortable, and the interior furnishings and art works are very appealing, with what is definitely the coolest dining room table we have ever seen. Amazing to find such a contemporary and comfortable home on the Oregon coast. My wife's sister from New Jersey joined us for a few days and was enchanted by the WOW factor of China Mountain House - you will be too!!!
