We purchased our home in July 2011 and have been there most winter weekends and vacations since. We love our Vermont home, where we can feel the love and care that was put into its building. The previous owner, had built this home for his children and grandchildren, so they could join him on his farm, where he raised sheep, llamas and chickens. Sadly his children were busy raising their own families outside of Vermont. We are the first family to live in this house that was built with so much love and care!
Diane Calderon purchased this house in 2011
We have been coming to Vermont every ski season with our three children, for seven years. Our ski base is OKEMO, where our son has worked as a part-time ski instructor for the last two seasons. We love Ludlow and the surrounding area and have as much fun in the off season as we do in ski season.
We feel incredibly lucky to have found this property! There is no place more relaxing on earth! The house is modern, with a beautiful kitchen and all new furnishing--a pleasure! Nestled on a hilltop, surrounded by 2 acres of beautiful farmland, complete with the original barn, and amazing mountain views, makes it like heaven on earth. All of this and only .5 mile to Main Street, Ludlow!
Was very disappointed in our stay here over February vacation of 2016. House was not very clean when we arrived. It did not appear that the bathrooms had been cleaned well (hair on the floor, hair in the sink, the faucets grimy, lots of dust). There were sheets in the washer (the washer was literally jammed pack to the top) with a note for us to put them in the dryer if we needed them. I dried them, but there was so much in that one load that it took three times through the dryer to get them dry. There were 5 lightbulbs out in various places throughout the house. We replaced all (they did have extra which was good) except for the one high on the ceiling above the kitchen window, and the one off the back porch. I suspect another light needs to replaced in the living room fan light but I couldn't get up there to check (the living room was very dim). The dishes we used out of the cabinets had water in them - must've been put away wet from the dishwasher. The coffee pot had old coffee grinds in the filter. The lamp in the bedroom with the futon is broken - held together with duct tape but it just dangles and does not stay up. The fridge had a ton of expired items in it (mayo from 2012... peanut butter, etc). We threw out a lot of it so someone else won't eat it and become ill. We didn't go through everything in the fridge - just what we noticed as we took things out to use. There was a note instructing us to take our garbage with us upon checkout but there was already a full bin of garbage out in the garage (ew).
I sent this info to the owner and she did respond fairly quickly with an apology and a note saying they have never had these problems before and she refunded the small cleaning fee (about 3% of our total bill).
Also, my daughter left behind 2 of her favorite stuffed animals (must have fallen off the top bunk into the corner down on the floor), and I asked the owner if she could send them to us (was happy to pay for shipping). She told me when the cleaning people came next she would ask them to put them aside and would send them to us the next time she was at the house. That was the last time I heard from her. I followed up with her in April and again in June... no response.
We did think the location was good - close to town and the mountain but overall I would give the experience a thumbs down.
The location was great, so close to the town and the mountain. The house was very clean and comfortable. Kids enjoyed the big property running around. She has everything there like balls for kids to play outside, board games, DVDs, selection of shampoos, conditioners, and body soaps in both bathrooms, spices to use for cooking, and all. Beds were very nice. Two family with four adult and three kids all enjoyed the stay.
Only things I wished were a hot tub and a fire place to be there and more snow, but I knew they weren't there to begin with. It is great place for families to stay.
We (family of four) stayed here over Christmas 2015. The house was as advertised. Three bedrooms, two baths, nice kitchen, dining area and living room. My bed (in the master bedroom) was very comfortable. My daughter started in the room with the futon, but claimed it wasnt too comfortable and ended up staying in the room with the two bunk beds with her brother. Neither complained about those beds but, quite frankly, I didnt ask...
The kitchen was fully stocked, both with utensils, pots and pans, etc. and condiments and the like. We explored the grounds the first day, but thereafter there was snow on the ground (as there should be in the winter in Vermont).
The garage was a nice plus. Its great to not have to warm up the car or scrape windows in the morning. Our minvan fit just fine, even with the back open. Also, despite the hill to the house being quite steep, it was plowed and sanded quickly, and the driveway area in front of the house was plowed as well.
The house maintained heat very well. We were never uncomfortable (floors werent cold, etc).
The only other things I might have wanted would have been a hot tub and a fireplace - obviously, neither are requirements, but there's something about a nice crackling fire on a cold winter night after skiing, or hopping in the hot tub after skiing all day. I was actually surprised not to find a fireplace in a ski house in Vermont - but truthfully, I have a fireplace in my house, and maybe use it twice a year...
The owners were great - they provided a long detailed list of information about the house, etc. and answered all of our questions in advance.
It was great having both a washer/dryer and dishwasher during a ski week.
As for restaurants, loved Killarney's Pub and Goodman's American Pie - my kids love Taco Taco - we liked Mojo this summer, but our visit over the winter wasnt as good.
Terrific home for a ski trip. Open floor plan of the kitchen/dining room and family room creates a great space to cook, eat and be together after a day on the slopes. One-story home is bigger than it looks from the pictures. Well stocked kitchen. Just a mile or so from Okemo Mountain, and less that that to the center of town. Wifi, laptop and TV were all great.
I've been renting ski homes for 20+ years and this is the first one that had a garage that I could pull my truck into - what a plus for days when it snows.
Very helpful owners. I'd stay here again.
I definitely recommend this home to any group of people looking for a spacious, clean, and up to date home! Located within less than a mile from Okemo Mountain, and about 25-30 minutes from Killington Mountain made this house PERFECT for any ski/snowboard trip. Worried about snowfall and being snowed in at the house? A snowplow was always around plowing the private road leading to the home and even the driveway! I can't think of one negative quality about this home, or the homeowners. They made themselves available via email by responding to any concerns I had within hours and made my stay in their home easy and fun. Thank you so much for having us!
A great cabin close to Okemo and Jackson Gore. Cabin had everything you need, only thing I couldn't find was a cutting board. All amenities, wifi close to supermarket. I don't have anything negative to say about it or our stay. We would definitely recommend it and would definitely stay there again. Thank you!!
Walk to area recreation sites, skateboard park, tennis courts, reservoir, basketball courts, wooded trails. Walk to all from home.
