Comfortable Stay with Fantastic Owner
This very comfortable house was built by Tricia’s father, who was quite a woodworker. Check out the curved crown molding over the shower and all of the wood built-ins throughout the house!
The property is located about 7 km from Inverness. The closest grocery stores, a huge Tesco and an Aldi, are about two miles south at Milton of Leys off the A9. Turn west at the Inches exit.
The stovetop (hob), oven, and microwave are quite new. Here’s the secret to using the stovetop:
1. Place the pot or skillet on the burner.
2. Press the on/off control on the far left.
3. Press the < > symbol that represents the burner you wish to use.
4. Then press the + or - control for the temperature.
There are an abundance of clearly written instructions for appliances and other equipment strategically located in plastic pouches throughout the house. Start with the blue binder on the bookshelf close to the binoculars in the living room.
Tip: If something that is powered by electricity isn’t working — the dishwasher, for example — try flipping on the switch on the socket.
As others have mentioned, Allan will have laid in some groceries, including milk, coffee, wine, cheese, butter, bread, and cookies. This was much appreciated.
A section of General Wade’s military road dating from 1732 is an enjoyable hike. Turn left at the end of the drive and look for the public access trail on the right after you pass a few houses.
Allan was very kind to us. Our plans for a rental car did not work out. My husband had a ticket to attend a performance in Inverness and we had plans to explore the Highlands. Allan called a friend who had been a tour guide. He was available to take my husband to and from the performance. He also drove us through a good part of the Highlands and the Isle of Skye for a reasonable rate when he was off work over the weekend. Allan volunteered to take us to the train station when it was time to leave.
We encountered one frustration. The mirrored closets in the master bedroom and the mirror in the large bathroom we used have a coppery finish that doesn’t reflect very well. However, there are more reflective mirrors elsewhere in the house. I dried my hair and applied makeup in one of the back bedrooms.
We would highly recommend this house if you have access to a rental car. Public transportation is not available in the area but cab service is.
On first impressions the bungalow needs an update but in reality it is very charming and comfortable
A very comfortable property to stay in - home from home. On arrival we were welcomed with the table laid with Christmas crackers, a welcome pack which included bread, milk, butter, cheese, oat cakes, a massive box of chocolates and even a treat for the dogs. The house itself was immaculate, all beds were very comfortable, bedrooms had plenty of storage, cannot think of anything lacking with this property. The garden is very safe for dogs and just opposite the property there is a track leading to plenty of forest walks.
We are so glad you had a nice festive break
Perfect home for visiting the Highlands
This home is spacious, cozy and very well equipped. The food and wine awaiting us was a bonus and much appreciated. Perfect place for two couples. Allen, the host, was very helpful.
Thanks Carlene, it was a pleasure to meet you
Picturesque, convenient and comfortable
We had a fabulous time here. The booking process was so simple and Allan and Trish were so easy to get in contact with!
When we arrived the house was nice and warm which made our arrival nice and welcoming. There were some basic food items in the fridge and a bottle of wine which was a nice touch. We were particularly thankful for the fresh coffee that had been left for us as we arrived so late the night before we had not had time to go shopping, so to have coffee there ready for us in the morning was SUCH a blessing!!!!
The house is very well thought out with all the things you would have at home, the only thing we thought the kitchen may benefit from is a large wok or large sauce pan as we were a family of 6 and often had to use two pans to cook for all of us. Not the end of the world I know!
The House itself is beautiful, lovely architecture and quirky little features. It was safe for my son to run around the garden (he is 2) and I had no worries about him rolling down the hill as there is a fairly robust fence surrounding the garden.
The main bedroom which we stayed in was excellent, nice big mirrored wardrobes and en suit with shower and toilet. The other two rooms were also large, both having two single beds in. If you had more couples in your group you could just push the beds together which is what we did! One of the rooms had a sink, which was great for my teenage sister so that she didn’t hog the bathroom. The main bathroom was also fabulous with a bidet and a fancy shower.
Over all we had a fantastic stay here and would recommend Allan and Trish’s place to anyone! We all left saying that was one of the best holidays we had ever been on! We will definitely be returning!
Thank you so much Allan and Trish!
Thank you Grace for the fantastic review we hope to see you back again soon,
Lovely house in perfect location to explore the Highlands
The house is perfectly located - in the middle of stunning countryside, but just a short drive to amenities in Inverness and very easy access to explore the Highlands including Loch Ness and the Cairngorms.
Thanks Phil, glad you had a good holiday at Larchfield.
Vary comfortable holiday home
A very comfortable and cosy house helped make our holiday most enjoyable. The very generous welcoming supplies of wine, cheese and bread (even treats for the dog) also helped. The house is very convenient for Inverness, Loch Ness, Aviemore, Cairngorm and the Black Isle as well as offering enjoyable walks right on its doorstep. Recommended.
Private but only a short drive to Inverness and the airport. A great base for cycling and walking. Loch Ness and the Isle of Skye are easy to get to. The aviemore ski centre and other adventure activities can all be accessed nearby. Wildlife is easy to spot from the windows and peaceful scenery where author Alistair Maclean once lived here. The house is only 20 minutes from the new castle stuart golf course where the scottish open championship is to be held for the next 3 years.
