About Mitchell Hentkowski
I grew up just 7 miles down Leer Rd from the cabin and never really noticed this place growing up. I went into the military right out of high school and ended up living in Oklahoma. Through the years when we would visit family each summer we would leave and talk about finding some property that we could build a summer home. Once we saw this place with the land, we knew this is what we were looking for.
Mitchell Hentkowski purchased this Cabin in 2014
Why Mitchell Hentkowski chose Posen
It was my Brother who told me this property was available When you walk the trails and see the beauty of this land you will know why it was, in that instant that I knew this was a place we wanted to stay each year when I "come home". That fall when I walked the property it was past the time of fall colors, but I could see the summertime beauty everywhere I turned. Listening to the water cascade over the old Grist Mill Dam is hypnotic. Seeing some of Northern Michigan's largest and oldest Hemlock Tree's whistling in the wind adds to the serenity of this property. When I pull into the drive each time I visit, I realize the 17 hour drive was worth it.
What makes this Cabin unique
If you are looking for a vacation that the only thing you have to do is relax, then this is the place for you. Sitting on one of the 3 decks over looking the Thunder Bay River and Mill Pond, you can listen the birds for as long as you like. If you like to fish, the river and pond will provide a mixture of Northern pike, Bass and pan fish. If you enjoy swimming you can do that also, either out by the deck or down by the mill. There is a canoe and a paddle boat to enjoy the river and pond. You can walk the nearly two miles of trails through acres of beautiful Northern Michigan hardwood forest. Or you can take a nap in the hammock. In the evening you can start a fire in the pit, sit on the swing and watch one of the most beautiful sunsets you will see anywhere. If you enjoy taking pictures, get up early and see if you can catch the local Eagles or possibly the family of Otters or Beavers. We have Canadian Geese nesting with us on the pond each year. Once you visit, you will understand why the words I have here cannot give justice to this wonderful land, and why when you visit you also will look forward to the next time you can visit.

Great place with a great host!
Incredible cottage stay with beautiful views from every window
The cottage was the perfect place to come together as a family and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. We all enjoyed the abundance of nature. We saw bald eagles, blue and white herons, turtles, many beautiful birds. The cottage had everything needed to have a great time, kayaks, paddle boat. The teenagers could go off on their own down the river, which they loved. The kitchen was perfectly stocked and the home was amazing. We all had a wonderful time together enjoying the firepit
on mill pond
Loved all the space . the deck was absolutely great for our big family, and some of us enjoyed walking the trails on property. We never expected something so grand in Posen .!
Paradise in Posen
We had such a great time! Fishing, kayaking, canoeing with campfires each night! Perfect for three families - loved the smiles on my grandchildren’s face 😀
Great family vacation venue.
The location and cabin were perfect for a family getaway.
A vacation home for nature lovers
The cabin was very nice and massive. There was plenty of room for everyone and the beds were comfy. The kitchen was fully stocked, and we made meals each night. The surrounding property is just absolutely beautiful. The variety of birds and animals was awesome. We took the kayaks out on the creek and had Bald Eagles and Osprey flying overhead. We also witnessed two snapping turtles fighting in the water and it certainly was a show. We went fishing many times and caught quite a bit. We had huge fires every night and firewood was included. You will need to definitely need to be careful walking down the wooden stairs. While they are beautiful, they will scrape the backs of your ankles. If you have anyone with mobility issues, keep them on the lower floor. The only issue we really had was when we got home, an email was sent with a picture of towels that appeared “dirty and grey” vs their normal white. Mitch the property owner stated that they had to try a few times to get them clean. No one in my party remembers leaving the towels looking like that, but all in all they came clean and everything worked out. It was just a tad bit awkward to go through. Overall, it was a stunning place to stay and if you love nature you won’t want to leave.
Visit the Historic Elowsky Grist Mill on adjacent property. Tours given with advance notice. Enjoy approximately 2 miles of walking trails on the property and see towering Hemlock trees that are more than 200 years old, along with Beechnut, Maple, and White Pine. All of what makes Northern Michigan Beautiful on your own secluded 52 acres!
