Glockner's Homeport has been home to commercial fishers Cliff & Connie Glockner for most of their lives. They earned their living and raised their family here on the banks of Bayou Lacombe. Recognizing the importance of outdoor life and the ecosystem that make it enjoyable, they were instrumental in the Save Our Lake movement to clean up Lake Pontchartrain, and were awarded the National Wetlands Award for their efforts. With St. Tammany being the fastest growing parish in the country, they realized that something had to be done to preserve some of our natural ecosystems for future generations. They initiated the movement to form the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge and drew together a diverse coalition to make it a reality.
We thoroughy enjoyed our stay at the camp. Ms Connie was very nice and accomodating. Great views! We fished and crabbed and caught enough crabs to have crabs boils on two separate days during our 3 night stay. Because of the very close proximity of the bayou to the camp there were lots of critters to contend with (snakes, alligators, stingrays, rodents, etc.); All outside ofcourse! The interior was clean, neat, comfortable, and charming. Our only 2 complaints were 1) the well water: it had an extremely strong sulfur odor--almost gaging--and had many black particles that prevented us from running baths, thus forcing us to use the showers; and 2) the enormous amount of traffic up & down the road all day long until late in the night. However, neither of these would prevent us from visiting again.
Had a great time caught lots of fish an crabs. The place is beautiful as advitized. The only problem was had to leave it, wish I was still there.
Had a wonderful relaxing trip. Caught all the fish and crabs we needed. Will be back.
We had a blast!!! This place is so clean and nice. Its all by itself on the water and the fishing and crabbing are great. If you have a boat the nearby beach's are awesome. We crabbed of the pier and at the beach. We caught plenty of crabs for a crab boil and Glockners has the perfect place the have a boil. Under the patio it has a nice breeze with picnic tables, water and plenty of room to move around. This is our second time and we will be back again!!! Oh and the property owner is a sweetheart !!!
Staying at Glockner's Homeport was incredible! The view is beautiful and the home is so comfortable and has everything you need. We took advantage of crabbing season. Our boys caught dozens of them from the docks with dead fish a local gave us for bait and crab cages they found around the docks and property and rigged them for use. The home is secluded near the end of a gravel rd to Lake Ponchartrain. There are stores within a few minutes in Lacombe for supplies/food. This is in the middle of a wildlife refuge so there are gators and bugs, the cranes will let you get relatively close and the sunrise is vibrant! I have been taking photos for a long time and some of my best are from this trip. The Glockner's played a big part in preserving Lake Ponchartrain, Bayou Lacombe and the two surrounding wildlife refuges for the people who make their living there. It was an honor to stay in this lovely home.
This is a great location to visit with friends & family. The house is nicely furnished & stocked with the essentials. By no means will you find modern decor or wifi here, but that was the beauty of it. We put down technology & picked up the crab nets. We had a great time & can't wait to visit again. Connie was very responsive during the entire process.
