About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 8 people and 6 horses)

Galloping Getaway: vacation cottage on the Wilson River, your horse is optional. I purchased this home for my family to ride horses, but one would also think it is the perfect fishing getaway! Multiple river access points just blocks away; such as Siskeyville River access and boat launch 0.3 miles from house.

Adorable, comfortable vacation home across the street from Wilson River. Bring your own horse, set up for 6 horses.

Experience the Tillamook County coastline like never before–on horseback. Gaze at wildlife and take in the scenic ocean views, all while trotting or better yet, galloping along the beach. You can stable your own horse at Galloping Get Away! Beaches close by allow for buggy access to drive your horse as well. Unlimited trail riding or hiking too, including equestrian only trails.

Perfect for all outdoor activities and very close to beaches (10 miles), mountain trails, waterfalls, ATV trails, abundant fishing opportunities, with a boat launch 0.3 miles from home. Home is 7 miles East of Tillamook Oregon. If you don't have a horse you will enjoy yourself just as much.

Home is well furnished with high quality bedding and comfort is my first priority. All sheets are at least 600 thread count. Master bedroom (1st level) has one new queen bed (firm) with Marcia Baldwin art. Second bedroom (first level) has 2 high quality twin beds with art focus on racing legend Seattle Slew and his great grandson, Whiskey Slew (my horse). Upstairs there is an adorable loft room with plush King bed, twin memory foam pull out under the king, loveseat, small TV with DVD player, and if you have an infant, a crib. Additional roll out as well. Full kitchen will meet all your needs for 2 nights or 2 weeks. Small bar in kitchen, seats 3 and table that seats 4 in the front room. In back, a Mud/Laundry room with washer and dryer. With comfort in mind, there are pillows for everyone: memory foam, down, down alternative or plain poly filled. When it gets dark and you are forced to come inside from the great outdoor recreation, there is a flat screen TV with ROKU (online streaming with netflix and Hulu) and DVD player, Wi-Fi, games, phone with free long distance and books. House was remodeled in 2011/2012.

At night you can listen to the creek and river while watching the elk cross the yard as they come down to drink. The elk have made a fun trail through the thick forest behind the home.

For the horses:

There are 6 paddocks, made from portable metal panels. Four of which are right next to each other; three are 12x12 and one slightly larger, 5th paddock is off on its own and is much larger, 6th paddock on its own and 12x12. Hot fence surrounds the paddocks for added security. Property is not otherwise fenced. There is a small manure cart, manure fork and 2 large water buckets; the rest of the supplies are to be brought by horse owners. There is no cover so bring your rain sheets. There is an outside light by the paddocks as well.

You must haul to beach/trails. Closest trails are about ½ mile and beach 10-12 miles.

Ample car/truck parking and parking for small boat trailers. With larger trailers, I would think parking would be limited to two trucks with horse trailers; No street parking. Guests report gooseneck are VERY difficult to park here. Please check with large/multiple/5th wheel trailers prior to booking.

About Sally Brown

I ride dressage and rescue a few horses. I currently have 18 well taken care of equines. When working on this home I tried to get everything possible that was made in the USA. Beds are made by hand in WA. Tile flooring made in the USA, etc.

Sally Brown purchased this house in 2012

Why Sally Brown chose Coastal Oregon

We love the Oregon coast and wanted a place where we could bring our horses anytime.

What makes this house unique

listening to river and creek at night. Having a small property to plant flowers on. Being 15 minutes from riding on the beach and centrally located to experience deep sea fishing in Garibaldi, or running down south to see the sea lions.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Absolutely beautiful house and a lovely place for our family get together near the Oregon coast. The house was spotless - completely and perfectly immaculate, but also warm and cozy and very tastefully decorated with equine art. Beds and bedding were exceptionally high quality, the kitchen has every gadget and pan we needed. Our host was incredibly fast to respond to emails and had detailed instructions for finding the home ready to send, so it was easy getting directions and other info. In all, a fantastic vacation rental value and an amazing and beautiful home.

Perfect vacation rental!

  • 5 of 5

The house was wonderful, rooms were nice size and tidy. Everything we needed for our stay was there in the house. Highly recommended for winter steelhead fishing, it is right on the Wilson river. Sally was helpful throughout the booking process and gave very detailed check-in and check-out instructions. Can't wait to visit again!

Quaint cottage

  • 4 of 5

My family of 5 stayed at this cottage in Tillamook, OR. Loved the close proximity to the town of Tillamook where the people were really friendly, close to the Oregon coast and other small towns to visit. It is a great place to stay for a family with older children, guys/girls getaway weekend. Would not recommend for families with small children not a lot of a yard for the kids to play outside. Pictures of the inside of the cottage are what you see, however, the outside is a bit deceiving. The back and front yard were overgrown with weeds and really don't have a back yard per say. The cottage sits right off the highway so you do have the noise of the highway all day and night, but we were not there during the day and returned late at night. It worked great for our family and I would recommend staying and would stay again.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay and agree the things to do in the area are endless. The house is just off Wilson River Hwy and there is traffic noise in the day but pretty much no traffic at night. (10pm to 6 am very quiet and 11:00 pm-4 am pretty much slient) I sit out at night and listen to the river and creek, while look at the stars as you are away from all city lights. There is moved lawn on 3 sides of the home and driveway in front of the home. The horse area did have tall grass when guest was in the home as it gets tall in the spring prior to me bringing the horses to eat it down. This would only affect horse groups in May and not guest without horses. Summer fall and winter the grass is not tall in the horse area. Most kids don't play on the mowed grass, they go play in the trees and have fun finding frogs, salamanders and other critters that live there. This week we had a young deer eating the horses mash off the side of the home.

Very Cozy and Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We fish on the coastal waters frequently and are very happy we found this place. It is a perfect place to spend a weekend with your buddies if you are fishing the upper stretches of the Wilson.

Nice and cozy

  • 4 of 5

Great place in a decent location near the Wilson river. The only down side of the

place is the smell of the well water. Their is a large water cooler there for coffee and drinking water but

I really didnt want to take a shower with it. Other than that a nice clean comfortable place.

Horseback riding opportunities are unlimited. Also there are areas you can park your trailer on the beach, which makes it perfect to drive your horse and cart on the beach as well. Miles of trails are close to the home, including equestrian only trails. Anderson Hill County Park, next to the air museum, has picnic benchs and horseback trails. Bird watching from the living room window or the nearby trails. Elk feeding in the backyard at night is fun to watch. Fishing across the street and many river access points, boat ramps, and boat lauches just blocks away. Room to park pickup truck and trailer. Shopping in Tillamook is just minutes away. Cheese factory tour is fun. Deep sea fishing charter, north, at Garibaldi is a great experience.

Wilson River Fishing: Wilson River Fishing

The Wilson River is one of Oregon's most popular rivers for fishing. It sports great runs of chinook salmon (both spring and fall run salmon), chum salmon and some coho salmon. The coho and chum salmon are currently only open to catch and release fishing but the spring and fall run chinook salmon are present in high enough numbers to support consumptive fishing.

The Wilson River parallels Oregon's Highway 6 from the top of the Oregon Coast Range to the city of Tillamook where the Wilson enters Tillamook Bay. All along the river is great bank access for Wilson River fishing and watching salmon spawn during their migration periods. Peak times for salmon are April - June for spring run chinook and October - December for fall run chinook, chum and coho.

For the famed run of winter steelhead, December - January for the hatchery run fish which are catch and keep and January - April for some broodstock steelhead (catch and keep) but mostly wild fish ranging upwards of 20 pounds!
