Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa de los Sueños is a 3 bedroom/2 bath home on 13 very private, quiet and secluded acres nestled beside a rainforest reserve in the Escaleras Mountains. The property offers spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. View year round breath taking sunsets over the ocean from two of the three bedrooms, the great room and pool patio, since the back of the house faces due west. The house sits 1000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by lush rainforest and tropical gardens. Much of the terrain was reforested with native Costa Rican hardwoods, and fruit and flowering trees. There are ample opportunities to spot wildlife on the property such as toucans, white faced-monkeys, howler monkeys, coati, two- toed sloths, the rare ant-eater and the stunning morpho butterfly.

The property has its own private “above the rainforest canopy” observation platform 100 feet above the jungle floor in a majestic Ceiba tree with a girth of around 35 feet at its base and about 12 feet at the level of the platform. The ancient Maya of Central America believed that a great Ceiba tree stood at the center of the earth, connecting the terrestrial world to the spirit world above. The platform can be reached by single rope climbing technique with a hired professional guide. The guide will train you with the skills you will need for this amazing, rewarding and fun activity. Arrangements can be made at the time of reservation for your private platform climbing adventure tour.

The three bedrooms are air conditioned and will comfortably sleep six. The great room includes the dining room, living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and wet bar. A laundry room with washing machine and dryer is located off the kitchen. The house has all new furnishings, Satellite TV service, WiFi internet service, DVD and CD players. The master bedroom suite has a king size bed and sliding glass doors to the pool and patio. It also has a large bathroom with shower and a Jacuzzi bathtub. Another full bathroom is conveniently located between the other two bedrooms, one with queen bed and the other with two twin beds. Housekeeping service is provided once a week, as well as a full time caretaker/gardener six days a week. There is also a large gate at the entrance to the property.

The house is less than 4 kilometers south of the village of Dominical. Located in a very unique region of Costa Rica where the mountains meet the sea, Casa de los Sueños is about 2 kilometers up into the Escaleras Mountains. Therefore, a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.

Whether you choose to go tree climbing or enjoy the many activities available in the area, you will certainly not be disappointed with your stay at Casa de los Sueños.

Truly Unique

  • 5 of 5

This house, it's location, and the individuals that "run" it are truly exceptional! We first came to Casa de los Suenos in 2013. We came back to Costa Rica in 2015 but stayed in a luxury 5-star hotel in the north part of Costa Rica (Papagayo). The entire family agreed that returning to Costa Rica for the 3rd time had to be spent at Casa de los Suenos. As soon as we pulled into the driveway, we felt a sense of relief that we were at our home-away-from-home. Besides the house being in the best location in CR, Tracy (thank you for your suggestions if we brought more family), Massi (thank you for helping us with our lost luggage), Silvia (AWESOME personal events coordinator) and Gerardo (somehow we had a full conversation even though neither of us knew each others' language) are an AWESOME team to make your stay so relaxing and peaceful. While we were there, we looked at another rental house to compare. It was nice but we all agreed that CDLS felt cozier and more like home. I really can't say enough about what a great experience staying here is. I'm fearful that too many of these great reviews may prevent us from being able to return ;)

Owner's Response: We're happy to hear that you had another wonderful and amazing second stay at Casa de los Sueños! We are grateful that you decided to return to CDLS, that really means a lot to us. It's good news to Jim and I that you and your family consider CDLS a home away from home! As always, we do have a great team that helps us with the maintenance, cleaning, property care, guest management services, etc. We would not be able to do this without the team. I'm still wishing we could have met before when we had the opportunity but unfortunately I was under time constraints. Maybe we'll be able to do so again in the future. We will look forward to you and your family staying at CDLS again in the future. Enjoy the summer! Best, Tracy

Jungle Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week staying at Casa de los Suenos. It was more breathtaking than the photos show. You can see up and down the coast for miles. The property is huge, super private and meticulously kept. A toucan family would feed in one of the trees every morning. The howler monkeys could be heard several times a day deep in the jungle, sometimes they seemed to be very close. At dusk one evening we caught a glimpse of an agouti feeding under the trees. We loved waiting to see all of the different frogs come to the pool after dark, especially after a good rain. Everyday we would discover cool new birds and insects.

The house was very nice and spacious. The beds were very comfortable. We cooked several meals and always had everything we needed. The pool was refreshing after long days of Costa Rican adventures. We had a couple issues with the oven and pool light and they were very prompt to find a solution. It took me the entire trip to figure out where they stashed the coolers and other things, they were up high on shelves in the laundry room. We really didn't need them or I would have asked. A very generous welcome basket was waiting for us when we arrived as well. A nice touch.

Also I really loved the location. The town of Dominical is the perfect laid back surfing town. It's truly off the beating path of the tourist crowds. You can make yourself feel like a local for the week. Just down the road is Uvita and the amazing Marino Ballena National Park, very beautiful. We chose about 4 of the activities that Silvia the concierge suggested. Our favorite was the horseback ride to the Nauyaca Falls.

I highly recommend staying at Casa de los Suenos, it was a magical week. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for writing a very nice review on Casa de los Sueños! Jim and I always enjoy reading such nice comments about our home. We're glad that you saw the toucans and the agouti plus heard the howlers in the woods and saw so many things. There are so many birds, animals, insects and reptiles around the property that everyone that stays at the house should see some wildlife. We appreciate your comments about the pool light and the oven. We are here at the house as I write this and have already had the pool light timer replaced, that has been in the process of being repaired for several days and the correct timer has been found and installed. We have already been shopping for a new oven. We had that planned as the next appliance replacement. We love the village of Dominical too. It is so laid back and the people are so friendly. There are lots of little sodas and restaurants to eat at including a very good sushi restaurant right there in the village. The complimentary concierge, Silvia, has been so helpful to a lot of guests that stay at Casa de los Sueños. She lives in the area and knows about everything to do in the vicinity. Thank you again for choosing our home for your visit to Costa Rica, we appreciate your comments and do hope that you will plan to return in the future. Pura Vida

Casa de los Suenos

I won't attempt to add much to the many outstanding reviews of CDLS - you can take them at their word. The property truly is exceptional in every detail. Private, clean, and well stocked with just about everything you could possibly need. The beach/pool towels, chairs, boogie boards, etc. are a very nice touch. The road to the property is very well maintained and not at all challenging, even at night with 4WD. The property owners, management company, and groundskeeper are very responsive to any questions you may have. We were lucky see a family of howler monkeys one afternoon and 2 toucans perched in a tree in the distance. Several flew by each morning. Bring binoculars if you have them!

For dining I wouldn't miss Hotel Villas RioMar. It's in an out of the way place just outside of Dominical, but well worth it. The lomito was some of the best steak we ever had.

As others have said, Tracy, Massi, Silvia, and Gerardo will make your stay exceptional. Thanks again.

Owner's Response: It was really good that your family was able to make a return visit to Costa Rica! Thank you for the nice review, we are always happy to hear about guest experiences. We do try to keep the house stocked as best we can, I always think about what I would like to see in a house if I was renting one. When you are on vacation it's no fun to have to go out shopping for items that you may need. Thank you for the comments on the road to the house as well. Property owners try to keep it as well maintained as possible for easy passage. Howler monkeys are very entertaining to watch and we're so lucky that they do pass by the house a lot. Dining in the Dominical area is very surprising with lots of good restaurants and sodas to choose from. Villas Rio Mar has been one of our favorites as well. We're happy that you chose Casa de los Sueños and we also hope that you will return again someday in the future. Thank you again! -Tracy

Secluded, breath taking views, tons of wildlife

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED this property! I was there with my husband and four kids ages 11-17. We just returned a few days ago. I miss the views and the sunsets already. Everyday we would wake to howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, toucans, dart frogs, etc. We literally felt like we were in our slice of paradise. We could go for days without seeing another person if we stayed on the property. Tracy has provided all of the necessary amenities and has captured the essence of the jungle meeting the ocean with the gorgeous views and surrounding property. Thank you for letting us stay in your amazing home!

Owner's Response: Amber, thank you so much for the great review! We're so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed the privacy that Casa de los Sueños offers. Privacy was a paramount goal of ours when looking for property in Costa Rica. Aside from that, the fact that Casa de los Sueños is surrounded on 2 sides by jungle that provides the cover for the jungle animals, birds, frogs and butterflies so near the house, is also a bonus. Jim and I hope to see you return for another stay at Casa de los Sueños, thanks again!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

If you want complete seclusion, if you want to argue about whether the view is more spectacular in the morning or evening, and if you want a beautiful home that is perfectly equipped to enjoy everything Costa Rica has to offer then you have found it at Casa de los Suenos. This was our second time staying in this part of Costa Rica. The first time we stayed in Manual Antonio but we didn't feel we were experiencing everything Costa Rica had to offer. We decided on Dominical because it has a great vibe, very young and fun with neat restaurants and close to everything. Also when you go to the local beaches or hikes the majority of the people there are locals which to us is much better than being surrounded by tourists. So we knew Dominical was the spot and then by chance we discovered Tracy oasis in the jungle. I will challenge you to find a better location anywhere to completely unwind. From the home all you see is the rain forest and the Pacific ocean. Not another home, not a road, not a light. Imagine having a cup of coffee in the morning or glass of wine in evening when all you hear are the sounds of the rain forest or while you sitting you see Toucans fly by. You can't help but be relaxed. When you have a shower and all you see is rain forest you just smile and de-stress. The house is, here comes that word again, perfect. You won't spend much time inside but two of the bedrooms have spectacular views and everyone has privacy. The home has everything you need to cook that fresh fish that you just bought from the fish merchant at the end of the road. The home has everything you need for a road trip to the beach for the day, beach chairs, boogie boards, a cooler, just like you would have at home. And then there is the location perfect for a day trip into Manual Antonio with its great restaurants and a spectacular quiet beach, Playa Dulce de Vida (go there you will thank me for the recommendation). The starting point for the trail to the Nauyaca Waterfalls is less than 1/2 an hour away and it is truly beautiful and worth the hike and a great place for a swim and a picnic. We also fell in love with Dominical, it is a laid back surfer town with some neat restaurants and funky bars all with a true Costa Rican feel. Lastly there is Tracy, we have rented several homes from VRBO and Tracy stands out head and shoulder above every one else in her commitment to make sure your stay is stress free and you have the PERFECT vacation. We will be back!

Owner's Response: Wow, that is a very nice review! Thank you so much for letting us know about everything that you enjoyed about your stay. There is so much to do in that area and all so close and within a short driving distance. Every time we are there we are 'blown away' over the beauty of the Pacific ocean, mountains and the jungle and the views from the house. We do go up to Quepos at times and enjoy the restaurants or fishing but we've never tried that beach that you mentioned. We'll put that on our list for next time. We try to keep the house as well stocked as possible so that everyone can enjoy their time on vacation and not shopping for supplies except for food of course. We were very fortunate that we were in Costa Rica during your first visit to Costa Rica and it was a real pleasure to meet the both of you! Thank you again for choosing our home and we do hope that you will return to Casa de los Sueños for another vacation in the future. Pura Vida!

One of the Best VRBO's yet.....AMAZING LAYOUT/FLOOR PLAN, VIEWS and SERVICE!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the most wonderful stay at Casa de los Sueños. Felt like home as soon as you stepped in. Amazing. The layout is perfect - opened concept - amazing views of the ocean, wild life, rain forest and tucked into the mountains. Very private too! Offered all the amenities that you need. We will for sure go back - Dominical is just wonderful. The Owner, Tracy and Property Management Co. service was incredible. They are ON IT!! Service with a smile. One note, you must have driving skills and a 4 wheel drive to get to the house during rain season. It's worth the drive up!

Owner's Response: Hi Genna, thank you so much for your review! We're happy you liked the open concept of the house, the beautiful views and the fact that so much wildlife is right there. Jim and I are very grateful to be working with a great team to make your stay wonderful. We hope you were able to see some beautiful sunsets as well. About the road, it seems that right now the problem is not only rain but also large work trucks driving it to get to a construction project somewhere at the top of the mountain. Hopefully they'll be finished with it soon and the road will get more sun to dry it out. Homeowners in that vicinity pitch in to pay for the maintenance of the road and once it dries they'll be able to regrade it and add more material to get it back in tip top shape. Thanks again for the great review and we would love to see you return in the future!

There is a table and 4 chairs up in the platform making it a perfect place for a once in a lifetime picnic lunch. A professional climbing guide and single rope climbing technique trainer can accommodate groups up to 4 for a flat daily rate. All climbing gear required will be provided for this exclusive and very unique Costa Rican adventure tour.
