About Lila Reed and Charles Roberts
Charles and I are supposed to be retired. He was in the health care field for over 35 years. I was in retail and wholesale home décor, also for over 35 years. We retired for about a year and were a little lost without the structure and challenge of "business" In 2012 we decided to take a space in a co-op in Boerne. Thinking that would be enough to keep us busy. Well, after a few months we heard about a great location on Main Street, that was being vacated. The temptation, for me at least, was to go back into retail and do what I loved. Hunting and Gathering, 101 South Main, ste A has grown from that small start. Visits with customers who were looking for a place to stay in Boerne encouraged us to find a house close to downtown. We wanted to furnish and decorate it with product from our shop. Finding vintage furniture, using antiques and other items from the store, to make each room special, was so much fun. I

Why Lila Reed and Charles Roberts chose Boerne
This was a lucky accident. It has been hard to find a house "in" Boerne, or at least close in the old neighborhoods that many people are looking for. We had just talked about starting to look for a house so I drove west of downtown through a neighborhood that I was not familiar with. Just off of San Antonio street there was a For Sale sign on a townhouse. I called the realtor just to see size and price. Told him that wasn't exactly what we had in mind. He said he had another listing that had just fallen out of contract. I scheduled an appointment, thinking I would just take a look. I was ready to be disappointed, but it seemed perfect for our dream. I told my skeptical husband and he agreed to take a look. I thought he would say, " we just started looking, we need to see some more houses." Surprisingly he agreed that the location was perfect. The size and the possibilities of updating it also fit our vision. Soon, we owned the little red cottage that we call the Birdhouse. You will see why the name if you visit.
What makes this Cottage unique
The house sits on a street that comes from an angle off of Main Street. It is in an area between the two creeks that run through Boerne, Frederick Creek and Cibolo Creek. It sits slightly higher than the street and the lovely front porch catches all breezes. It is great to sit out there and listen to the birds. The Birdhouse is in a quiet older neighborhood, with locals who have been there for years and a sprinkling of lovely newer homes. The interior layout of the house is very modern, with two bedrooms and a hall bath on one end, The living, dining and kitchen in the middle and the master bedroom with en-suite bath on the other end. It is an older home and the previous owner must have been a gardener and a bit of a stone mason. There are several stone walled beds surrounding the back patio. They still need some work, but there is a beautiful heirloom rose bush that smells so good. There is also a funky stone oven with a counter top beside it. Fun, if you are an outdoor chef. Inside and out it is just the perfect little country cottage.

We have remodeled and decorated this house with the same care and quality as we have our own home. As you will see the house is shiny clean and we will always keep it that way. We hope you will take excellent care of the property and the amenities that it affords. The AC unit is new and it would be helpful if you would set the thermostat to an away temp, whenever you will be out of the house for long periods. We will leave more information and phone numbers should you need anything while you are there. We have a shop on Main Street and hope you can visit us while you are in town.

We were 2 couples and had a lovely stay at this home!
This sweet home is so nicely decorated and all amenities were excellent! The location was perfect and close to restaurants and shopping! We’d love to visit again some time!
The Birdhouse was a sanctuary from the hectic city life. Quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors, an extremely comfortable house, and a short walk to the park and the best bakery in town! We loved it!
Beautiful, comfortable, clean, & great location!
This was by far our favorite Airbnb experience to date. It was easy to communicate with the owners. The home is in a great location that makes it easy to walk into town. The backyard is fantastic for relaxing, with a nice covered area and plenty of chairs. There were fireflies at night, too!! Our favorite thing was their beds; they are sooooo comfortable!! I especially enjoyed all the pillows on the master bed 😊 Bath linens were plentiful and high quality. There is a washer and dryer that makes travel much easier. The kitchen was immaculate and well stocked with glasses and everything else you might need. I appreciated the bottled water in the fridge, you can never have too much during a Texas summer!! They have decorated their home tastefully and with comfort in mind, too. I would love to stay here again!!
Hill Country get away
We rented this cottage for four nights and we were two couples, it was perfect, was clean and with everything you could ask or need .
The only thing that bothers us was the high of the 🛌, I am not a short person , well, we will recommend some rails on the back going down to the cute back patio, overall, we love it.
Thank you so much. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in the Birdhouse. We do know that the beds are rather high. We went to great lengths to create the most comfortable beds ever. Not too firm, not too soft. We bought lovely new mattress and box springs and on top of those we added a 3 inch foam topper. (We have this in our home) I am sorry that this was inconvenient for you. You may have noticed that the master bedroom has a set of bed steps to help. We totally agree that the back steps could use a hand rail.
We have had a "metal welder" scheduled to add rails. So far he has not showed up. Lots of building going on around Boerne, so it is sometimes hard to get craftsmen for small jobs. We will focus on this and get some rails up soon.
Thank you for your visit. Hope you can come again.

There is so much to do in and around Boerne. The best source of what to do and where to go is the Boerne Convention and Visitors Center, located just off of South Main Street, in front of the
Wal -Mart. It is in an old farm house, with the barn and out buildings on the grounds. On-line go to ( visitboerne.org ) and see their easy to use guide to current events
