Amazing Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Journey's End. The house was wonderful - we made great use of the pier, crab traps, and back porch, especially. The location was ideal for our group. The fishermen had easy access to the bay both from the dock and in the boat we brought. The sandy spot on the other side of the dock was great for paddle boarding. It was also very convenient to access the beach directly across the street. We were able to stake out a spot on day one and leave our chairs for the remainder of our stay. This stretch of beach was very nice, clean, uncrowded, and family friendly. Fort Morgan was just the laid back, quiet, casual place we were seeking. The house itself was large, comfortable, and well equipped. Just what we were hoping for! My only complaint was that parking and turning around with two vehicles, a boat, and 2 jet skis was a challenge. But, a minor inconvenience. We will be back to Journey's End as soon as possible!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great review! Sorry about the parking. Keep in mind for next time that there are a couple of spaces up the driveway by the boardwalk that you can use for oversize vehicles. We hope you come and stay again this year and check out all the renovations we have done to the house in the off season. New appliances, furniture, paint and even a new master bath! .

Very differing opinions about this property

  • 4 of 5

This is a hard review to write because our groups had polar opposite views of this property. Some of us loved it and would stay here again without hesitation, some hated it and would never book this house again. We had 4 families who were going for a fishing trip. Here are the reasons some of us loved it so much:

- the location!! It was steps from the bay and close to the point where we were fishing

- privacy. No other properties are around and it couldn't be seen from the road.

- the space. It's a HUGE house with a private bedroom and bathroom for each family, two different lounging areas so the older kids had their own space for playing games, a separate laundry room, and the cupola (the 16 year old took an air mattress up there and had his own space away from his brothers!)

- the screened in porch. It is beautiful sitting there watching the pelicans dive without having any bugs!

- the pier. It is a huge pier that is technically a community pier, but we had to ourselves most of the time. They even provided crab traps.

-the fish cleaning area. Under the house, there is a fish cleaning table, hoses, outdoor shower, foot wash station. It is perfect when you return from a successful fishing trip and need to clean them.

The main person who hated the property started off on the wrong foot. She was the first one there and took the back bedroom that doesn't have a view. As soon as she entered the bedroom, there was a palmetto bug (or as she called it "a huge cockroach") on the floor. Then the bathroom had plumbing repairs and the wall they had cut out to access the pipes had not been repaired. So after that bad first impression, she created what she called her "laundry list" of issues with the house. The things she hated included:

-torn screens on the cupola

-some screws poking up on the stairs

-worn floor in kitchen

-outdated decor and wallpaper

-understocked kitchen. She commented that there were only 10 plates even though it supposed to sleep 12 and they were chipped. The can opener didn't work, there were no pot holders, no dustpan and the non-stick skillet was worn.

-the mattresses didn't have mattress pads

[I'm pretty sure this was the point where I told her that there wasn't anything wrong with the house and she was being ridiculous!]

So if you're looking for a high-end luxury house, keep looking. If you're looking for a great location and lots of room, this is great!

Family Fun and Making Memories!

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time at Journey's End. It is truly the perfect location for access to the bay and the beach. The 400' pier was great for crabbing and night fishing. I have three little boys, who had a great time and we made some great memories. The house has a great layout with a lot of open space. The back porch became our staple lounge location. I believe the owners are planning to complete interior renovations, which will only make this vacation destination even better. We certainly have it on our radar for vacationing again next year.

Shop around

  • 2 of 5

This is a great place but needs a lot of attention. We had a very enjoyable stay but: It took 2 hours with a machete just to get a lane wide enough to pull a full size truck in the lane; the parking area does not allow for turning around without almost hitting concrete or marsh; many windows were shuttered; ants and spiders were everywhere inside; water depth at pier was not deep enough for moderate sized boat; this place looks like a home that has been allowed to age without much time, effort, money put back in. We've been VRBO renters for over 15 years in many different locations. This home was marketed well with very flattering pictures but was by no means comparable to other homes we've rented for much less. I would have let the owner know some of my concerns but there was never any attempt to make contact with me to confirm that everything was working. Keep shopping. There are better locations for this kind of money out there.

Owner's Response: We always rely on our guests to let us know if they need anything. As you can see from previous reviews anything that needed attention was immediately handled. We immediately answered all of your many questions before your arrival and pride ourselves on good communication with our guests. There is a full maintenance team that is available to meet any of our guests needs. We have had many guests with boats who have had no problem with either water depths or dealing with the driveway. In the future we will advise guests with large boats to dock at the nearby marina. As noted there is a parking area just next to the board walk if guest feel they cannot navigate the drive . If our home did not meet your standards, please continue to "shop around".

Great Location and everything we wanted

  • 5 of 5

The location is perfect for a private stay. Everything we needed was a short walk or drive away. The home and the lot are exactly what we had hoped for.

Wonderful vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Journey's end and just loved everything about it!The location was perfect, with private beach by the bay for paddle boarding, crabbing, fishing and jet skiing, yet a close walk to the pool and beach. We could watch both sunrises and sunsets from the porch, our favorite room of the house. At first, we were worried that we were too far away from town, but that ended up being the best part -being away from the crowds and congestion, free to relax in peace! We will look forward to renting again when we come back to the area!
