The Apartment Stella Marina is located in Corniglia, one of the five beautiful sea villages clung onto the rocks on Riviera di Levante, in Liguria, called 'Cinque Terre', simpy 'The five Towns'. Unesco World Heritage since 1997, Cinque Terre means romantic little bays, small beaches, caves, precipitous cliffs, terraced ridges, corals, anchovies, thousands of kilometres of dry walls built to create terraces for the cultivation of grapevines, it means whales and dolphins in the Whales’ Sanctuary, a wide net of footpaths from Riomaggiore to Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza to Monterosso, Via dell’Amore and on the back of the Cinque Terre.

The territory of Cinque Terre includes the coastal area from Punta Mesco, by Levanto, to Punta Montenero, close to Portovenere and the famous Palmaria Island, about ten kilometres east from La Spezia.

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful apartment was the icing on the top of the cake in the amazing village of Corniglia. Stunning views of the Ligurian Sea and town center. Clean, fresh and modern. It was the perfect place for our family of four to Relax and enjoy Cinque Terre living.

These are a few of my favorite things...

  • 5 of 5

Waking-up to the songs of church bells. Leisurely breakfast on the balcony. Watching the tiny village awaken. Overlooking the square where visitors arrive and leave, where local children play, and where the locals gather each evening to sit on benches to enjoy the peacefulness of Corniglia after the travelers have gone. These are just a few of my favorite things about our Clelia Apartment in the Cinque Terre's quaintest village.

This flat was perfect for our party of 3. The beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable (thank you!), and AC in the bedroom was greatly appreciated! There is a daybed w/ trundle downstairs; my mother slept here to avoid negotiating the spiral staircase (except to use the upstairs jacuzzi tub/hand-held shower). With bathrooms upstairs and down, we all had plenty of privacy. We cooked a few meals in the well-equipped kitchen to dine al fresco on the balcony-- find additional kitchen supplies in the hutch. TIP: There's a market on Via Fieschi where you'll find gluten-free foods and delicious roasted chicken and potatoes *pre-order in the morning*. Computer provided in the apartment, WIFI and TV worked great. The stairs to the apartment were manageable; I forgot to count, but I am guessing +/- 25 steps.

The location is very convenient! The shuttle bus is literally at the foot of the apartment stairs, along with 2 ATMs and 2 small markets. There are 3 gelaterias just steps away-- all competing for your favor with interesting flavors. Lucky that visiting the Cinque Terre is an active endeavor...so much gelato to tempt! Everything in town is a short, lovely walk away. The stairs down to the Marina are worth the effort, as are the trails out of Corniglia. We also found the merchants and restaurants a bit more welcoming than in other villages; perhaps with fewer tourists, they appreciate those who appreciate Corniglia's charms? There are several wonderful restaurant choices, especially for seafood.

Clelia Apartments was friendly, efficient and informative during check-in and easy to coordinate with. I would happily book with them again! The only suggestions I have to offer would be to provide tourist information such as books, maps, info on hiking/classes/tours , train schedule, etc.. (If these items were present, their location was not obvious.) Also, perhaps include a photo of the stone doorway leading to the apartment in the property listing photos; that was our only confusion in finding the apartment.

WE LOVED IT!!

Great Property in Corniglia

  • 5 of 5

Great location overlooking town square with a peek at the Mediterranean. Literally a few steps from the 2 small markets, restaurants, gelato, and the bus to the train station. The apartment was very clean and perfectly appointed. The air conditioner was a real treat to find in Italy! The owner also granted us the use of her hotel pool in a town a train ride away which made for a lovely afternoon.

Charming apartment in the Cinque Terre

  • 4 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at this light and airy apartment located right in the heart of the town square in Corniglia. Our major reasons for choosing this place was for the space itself, the air conditioning, WiFi and washing machine. We were able to take advantage of all of those things. The air conditioning was much appreciated after a day of trekking in the hot sun! The location was very convenient in terms of being right where the bus from the train station drops you off and also close to several markets. We did find the street noise at night to be a little loud but from the upstairs bedroom you couldn't hear any of it.

The kitchen was well appointed in terms of appliances which worked out well for us because we planned to cook for ourselves quite a bit. It did lack some basic cooking utensils and pans to cook for more than just two people. We also arrived to find no kitchen "basics" such as salt, pepper, olive oil, dish soap, sponges, etc. so had to go out and get those things.

There is a very comprehensive recycling system that coordinates different kinds of waste pick up on different days in different containers - we didn't receive any specific instructions on that ahead of time and it took a few days before we figured it out. Would suggest providing guests with written instructions in addition to just the pick up schedule so that was clear. Basic instructions for using the washing machine would be helpful as well.

There was a nicely updated bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and a skylight just off the bedrooms upstairs. The ceiling is slanted and so the shower needed to be used while sitting in the tub, which we did with no problem.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay. We received responses to all our questions within a day (via email) and thought this was a very good value for the space, amenities and location it provided.

Generally good with caveats

  • 4 of 5

You should like being on a hill (which we did). And if you miss the bus up, walking up the road (15 to 20 minutes) is quicker than taking the 350+ steps. This is a bright, clean, spacious apartment with quirks. It's very clean and has a nice location in the village. And it's quite easy to hop onto the hiking trails from this location. The towels were plentiful and the Internet connection excellent. We did not use the (3) TVs nor the provided computer. The key system worked but the system could make it easy to get locked out. The village is noisy, alive and full of hikers during the day but very quiet and charming at night unless the adjacent church bell will bother you. Strangely, it chimes for each hour TWICE; therefore at 10pm you will hear 20 chimes. The village has a couple of friendly stores so you can purchase some food to eat in the apartment and there are sufficient restaurants in the village or you can take a train to another village for dinner; just don't miss the last train back!

One drawback was the winding staircase necessary to attain the 2nd floor; you must be agile and be careful. Another inconvenience was that there were NO instructions for the appliances, how to keep the skylights open, etc. Also there was no information provided on the area-- what to do, train schedules, emergency phone numbers, etc. There were no basic kitchen supplies such as salt, sugar, oil, etc. There were sufficient dishes and pots. I would have liked a shower but you might like the fancy jacuzzi tub (which we did not use). It was nice to have a 2nd toilet downstairs. The owners were prompt in their responses. Biggest pluses: location, spaciousness and cleanliness and the fun of staying in one of the villages. Biggest drawbacks: narrow winding staircase, no shower (which we knew ahead of time), inconvenience of waiting for the bus to get up and down. Overall recommended and we were happy to spend a little time in a special spot of the world.

Excellent in every way!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter, 17, and I stayed here for 3 nights in March. The apartment is even nicer than the pictures. One side of the living room looks out over the small main square and church and distant hills; the other with French doors and terrace looks out on a neighbor's garden, some huge cypress trees with lots of doves cooing in them, and a partial view of the sea, cliffs, and distant village next to Corniglia. It is great to hear the church bells and the activity in the square, which quiets down after dark. A spiral staircase goes to a loft with two twin beds. A doorway off this leads to a full bedroom with queen bed. It's small window has the same view as the terrace but it is off the square so quiet. There is a toilet and sink downstairs in a small room with a washer. The washer seemed to be locked!. We could not open its loading door. The bathroom upstairs is modern. The ceiling slopes over the jacuzzi tub but you can stand up under the skylight. There is a hand shower, but we could not figure out how to make the water come out of it! Directions should be left for that. The queen bed and pillows are comfortable as are all the furniture. The kitchen has a good supply of dishware and adequate pots and pans, but there were no staple or other pantry items. The internet worked our first day but then stopped. Our computer registered that we were on the network but then gave the message, "No signal found." We had already tried the solutions the owner offered after we emailed them from a local cafe. Those didn't work. The owner was very conscientious in trying to get in touch with us about it though. I had asked them to text my phone but then didn't realize that my phone was shut off. They made several attempts to contact me and were clearly very concerned to help. So we sort of had a mix-up about the internet and then our time there was over. This was a great place to come home to after our days of hiking and training to the other 4 towns, of which C. is definitely the nicest. There are 383 steps down to the Corniglia train station, but there's also a bus you can take to get to/from the town. DO get gelato at the first gelato shop on the left as you leave the main square to go up the "main" street where the steps down to the water are (another 200-some steps!). The lady there is SO friendly! And we had a great dinner at Enoteca Il Pirun. We parked for free in one of several spots at the final big curve before descending into the town. Walk was 10 min.
