Guestbook comments from the owner

We have returned from Grapevines having had a wonderful time. Your house was just perfect! We were so comfortable, had everything we needed and felt extremely lucky. Rosemary of course was a star. What lovely people she and Nico are. We certainly hope to return and especially feel I would be fine there on my own. We caught up with old friends. Our daughter was thrilled with the pool as she is training for a triathlon. Thank you - with love

Home from home but with the sun!

We had 11 days at Grapevines. First impressions apart from it being hot, was the site was very clean and tidy. The apartment was all what you expect - clean, airy, loads of equipment, towels provided so you didnt have to pack, etc. Rosemary looked after us and was very attentive. We had two power issues but both resolved in a flash(excuse the pun) by Rosemary. The area is fantastic for all ages, and the large pool catered for all, and well looked after. All the restaurants serve similar and all very reasonable. Our favourites were the Olive Tree near the harbour (great service, biggest pork chop you will ever see) and the Dragons Cave. You must get there just before sunset as we did and you will be treated to a fantastic view. The food is all home grown. We fully enjoyed our holiday and have already recommended it to our friends. We had a wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a lovely holiday, this certainly is the right place! Very nice and well kept apartment, we also loved the patio outside the kitchen. And the balcony outside the bedroom upstairs, perfect for late afternoon relaxation – reading a book or just overlooking the pool. Not all the apartments in this complex has furniture on the balcony, but this one have. We very much appreciated the washing machine (top floor) as well.

The pool is more than sufficient for an early morning/late afternoon swim, and the beach is just 5-10 minutes away. A very steep hill down to the beach though, which can be a challenge on the way back, if you have a heart condition or other health problems. No problem at all, however, if you are reasonably fit and healthy!

Small supermarket, some shops and several places to eat out in the neighborhood, even more in the nearby town Makrigialos – just down a long hill. Walking distance if you are in the mood for a good walk, otherwise taxi is not expensive.

Wendy answered all our questions before and after our booking, never loosing her patience. She did all she could to ensure a nice stay for us, she even arranged taxi from the airport (130-150 Euro). Rosemary, the nice caretaker on site, welcomed us at arrival and made sure that everything was to our satisfaction, during our two weeks stay. We can safely recommend this apartment to anyone.

Comfy, homely and relaxing......

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 2 weeks at Grapevines in Phill and Wendy's villa.

The villa was clean and tidy, the pool was very well maintained and a joy to swim in. Rosemary and Nico were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.

There is so much to see and do, One day we went driving over to the beautiful east coast to Zakros in a hire car which was great. We spent several days on the local beach at Diaskari relaxing in the hammocks and eating the amazing deep fried courgettes at the taverna there. The local Pefki Gorge is a wonderful days hike,......the village of Pefki has a welcoming taverna and the walk up to the little church above the village is great with wonderful views as a fantastic reward!

We had a great holiday.......! Huge thanks to Phill and Wendy!

Beautiful apartment!

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week in the apartment and I really can't praise it enough - the best I have ever stayed in. There was nothing that hadn't been thought of in the apartment. All your needs were met - it was like home from home, only much nicer of course!

The grounds are immaculate and at night it felt so peaceful with the spotlights and the floodlit pool.

I went running along the beach everyday which was an absolute joy. It is a stone throw away from the apartment and was always really quiet - a great place to go and lie around in the sun all day without being disturbed. There are also little bars and restaurants along the sea front so you can grab a drink or a snack whilst you're there.

Rosemary and Nicos looked after us and catered to our every need. They were very friendly and I felt extremely well looked after.

The welcome pack upon arrival was fantastic as all I wanted was a drink and something to eat when I arrived and it was all provided. This meant that I didn't have to worry about getting up first thing to find a shop. Although the shops are very conveniently situated and there is one just around the corner from the apartment.

The apartment was very clean and all towels are provided which meant I had more room in my suitcase! It is modern but also very homely. All the amenities are provided so you can cater for yourself with ease - there wasn't a piece of equipment I was without! One of my favourite features was the balconies which are situated on both the second and third level. I sat out and ate my breakfast everyday in the sun. There is also a private garden at the back which you can access through the patio doors in the kitchen - ideal for eating outside or having a barbecue.

I took my 90 year old grandma with me and it was ideal for her as she effectively didn't need to go upstairs as everything she needed was available on the ground floor meaning she didn't have to climb the stairs if she didn't want to.

If you like walking there are some beautiful places to explore nearby. I visited some lovely places near by and the scenery is beautiful. There are also plenty of restaurants to pick from within walking distance from the apartment and shops to buy fresh fruit, veg and meat from each day as well as gorgeous cakes!

All in all I can highly recommend this apartment and would go back again! Beautiful would summarise it in one word!

''You heard it on the Grapevine'

  • 5 of 5

We spent a glorious week in June at Grapevines- you can have a restful , peaceful holiday never straying too far from the villa to find a quiet beach and delicious cretan food and wine or you can wander into Makrygialos town centre for a wider choice of restaurants and bars, music and nightlife.

The house, swimming pool and grounds were spotless. All your needs were catered for. Rosemary and Nicos were fantastic- No enquiry or request was too much for them - always helpful , particularly arranging our taxi for us so that we stepped straight off the plane at Heraklion into the car.

Thank you for the welcome pack - it mean't that on the first morning there was no hurry to find a shop or cafe for breakfast food and drink.

We spent most of the time lounging on comfortable sun beds and thick luxiourous beach towels either by the pool or on the sun terrace. We made good use of the house library. We ventured to Pefki in the mountains via local taxi and to the monastery on the little road train.

But my favouite were morning strolls and swims in the warm clear sea on Diskari beach.........unforgettable

I have recomended this villa to all my family and friends fo a perfect get away.

Wonderful Holiday Spot

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic week we've had! The villa was everything and more with a fabulous pool and in spitting distance of the beach - what more could you want. The villa itself was beautifully clean when we arrived with everything we needed. The huge beach towels were a real bonus. The extensive welcome pack was ideal after the journey, meaning that we could get on and enjoy our holiday straight away.

Special thanks to Rosemary and Nico who looked after us from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Even the contact with Rosemary before the holiday to hire the car made everything that much easier.

With Makrigalios on the doorstep, there was plenty to do and plenty places to eat. Our favourite place to go for a drink was the Gecko bar. It was great to walk down into the village, along the beach, have a few drinks and then wander back.

Lots of lovely walks along the coastline and through some spectacular gorges. The perfect holiday, can't wait to go back.

Many thanks Wendy and Phil. We would recommend your house to anybody.
