Why Wendy and Phil Kershaw chose Makry Gialos

Makrygialos is a tranquil, typical yet unspoilt Greek village. Makrygialos means 'long beach' and it certainly has a long sandy beach perfect for families and those wanting a lazy holiday. In less than 10 minutes, you can stroll to the beach or eat at a different taverna each night and never be disappointed. Venture into the mountains to find the most wonderful secluded villages each with their own taverna serving fresh produce.

What makes this villa unique

Rosemary and Niko, our site managers live next door so are always on hand. Whether you are a family or two couples, the layout of our house allows a good degree of privacy, with one bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor and the other bedroom and en-suite on the first floor, as well as the dining kitchen leading onto the patio and garden. Our house offers views one way, of the sea and wonderful views of the mountains in the other direction. The well maintained pool is the centrepiece of the small, private complex of just 20 houses.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We have returned from Grapevines having had a wonderful time. Your house was just perfect! We were so comfortable, had everything we needed and felt extremely lucky. Rosemary of course was a star. What lovely people she and Nico are. We certainly hope to return and especially feel I would be fine there on my own. We caught up with old friends. Our daughter was thrilled with the pool as she is training for a triathlon. Thank you - with love

Beautiful Villa in excellent location.

  • 5 of 5

The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived. It is modern and well-equipped; we had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. The layout of the balconies and terrace mean that you always have the option of sitting in the sun or choosing shade. Fantastic views in all directions. The caretaker Rosemary was very helpful without being obtrusive; she was able to give useful tips about restaurants and places to visit. We really loved the location on the edge of a small town; shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. In fact there is an excellent restaurant next door to the complex. There is a good fruit and veg shop, a patisserie and bread shop and several small shops for general supplies. A sandy beach is a five minute walk away. It would be possible to stay In this location without a car; however, it is also a great base for exploring the less-developed eastern side of the island. There are at least three gorge walks within a very short driving distance and a spectacular walk up Pefki Gorge, which can be done from the house. We also visited the beautiful Vai Beach and the ancient Minoan ruins at Zakros. The roads were not busy (first week in April), so it was a pleasure driving through the amazing mountainous countryside. There was nothing that we did not like and I hope that we will soon be able to visit again.

We had a perfect stay at Grapevines villa!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Grapevines villa. The house and the surroundings was perfect, the house was fresh and clean and was fully equipped so we had all needed and much more. The house was fresh and clean. We and specially our daughter Zarah enjoyed the large pool very much. The location of the Grapevines villa is perfectly located, for example it is just a short walk to reach the beautiful beaches and lots of nice restaurants. I recommend you to take a walk to the nearby harbor and try one of the excellent fish restaurants, but don’t forget to visit The Rock bar on the way.

I strongly recommend others to visit Makrigialos and stay at Grapevines villas. We for sure is coming back.

Beautiful house and location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday, couldn't fault a thing. Firstly Wendy and Phil were fantastic with their communication after we had booked and before the holiday. They booked our car hire for us, we were met at the airport and taken to the car and everything was brilliantly organised. The house itself is gorgeous, lots of space both indoors and outdoors, really well looked after and clean, has everything you could possibly need to self cater, just like a home from home but with lots more sunshine! Grapevines itself has 20 houses situated around the stunning pool area, plenty of sun beds and superbly maintained by Rosemary and Nico. We've stayed in many different places on Greek islands and I can honestly say we've never seen a place so well cared for. The villa is located just outside Makry Gialos but has a supermarket virtually next door and it's a lovely walk into the main seafront and harbour areas where there are lots of fantastic Tavernas. I can't recommend this place highly enough and we will definitely be back.

Beautiful villa situated between the hills and sea

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I hired the villa with our friends who have a toddler and we were impressed with the provision of necessaries for young children. The pool is gorgeous and very well maintained, as is the villa itself. We enjoyed the villa's three balconies and patio with table and chairs, the latter of which we made good use of for dinning alfresco. Rosemary was on hand to welcome us and assist us with an any issues we had. Although we went in low season we enjoyed temperatures of 22-36oC and brilliant sunshine. We hope to visit again soon!

Very nice holiday home with a large and clean pool

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in this holiday villa was really great and we enjoyed it very much. The house is located close to nice restaurants and different shops in Makrigialos. We also loved to have our breakfast at the house terrace each morning and our kids enjoyed the nice and clean pool. Rosemary provided us with all needed and helpful information about the house and the infrastructure. It was very convenient to have a private parking lot nearby. Everything went very well and we were completely satisfied.
