Great House

  • 5 of 5

The house was lovely. Beautiful gardens and pool. Well maintained. Loved that it was in walking distance to the town of St Remy. Lucy and Sam were very helpful - they bought us a new grill since the old one didn't work and they helped us figure out the TV. The house was perfect for two couples but it could easily fit 6. . Highly recommend. Thanks!!

We loved the house!

  • 5 of 5

My two friends and I just spent 6 nights in St Remy at Balthus. The house would comfortably host a larger group. Lucy was very helpful to get us settled and give us recommendations for restaurants and sites. The house is VERY lovely and comfortable. It was welcoming - many books and movies. We slept so well! The weather was cool in late April, so I want to return and spend time in both the beautiful front and back yards. Lovely pool. The location feels private. We felt safe behind the gate. We had plenty of room to park. We walked back from dinner in the center of town every night in 10 minutes - we were not nervous about walking back at night. It was nice to avoid staying away from the activity of town and still being close enough to drop off your shopping bags from the excellent Wednesday market. The grocery store is a 10 minute walk. The location was easy access for driving to nearby towns. We took a quiet short walk to Van Gogh's hospital.

Super property, superb location

  • 5 of 5

We found the property charming, very comfortable and very clean. The house blended the feel of Provence with all of the mod cons. The garden and swimming pool were lovely and we enjoyed lots of al fresco living. Lucy and Sam were excellent, very helpful and friendly hosts. St Remy centre is fantastic, (as is Glanum which is close by) and is within easy walking distance - and yet the house is private. We would certainly recommend Baltus to friends and family and hope to visit again sometime in the future.

Fantastic rental in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This house was just what we were looking for. An updated but authentic Provencal charmer with loads of character and a perfect location.

The 3 bedrooms suited our extended family of 5 perfectly. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. My wife and I had our own private ensuite master bedroom with a quaint and cozy covered patio right outside the sliding glass doors. Our bedroom had en electronic black out curtain on the sliding doors that was great if you like it dark in your bedroom like we do! Our kids had side by side twin beds in their own room. And my Mom had a beautiful room of our own across the hall from the kids. These two front bedrooms share a nicely updated bathroom. We didn't really use the living room/salon but it was a nice size. Th kitchen had everything we needed and had a nice table that suited breakfasts well. The washing machine worked like a charm and spun at such high speeds that it virtually dried our clothes as well. Wifi worked though was a little spotty at times and in certain rooms. We used the heat a few nights and while we couldn't get it working in all the rooms, still worked well enough to keep out the chill. I should say that the house has beautiful Provencal tiles throughout and high ceilings that would have kept it cool in the summer.

The outdoor spaces were just beautiful as well. The house is very front of the house is covered in a pebbles and had a few nice places to sit and have coffee or a snack. The back has a nice size lawn that the kids loved to play on and what looks like a very nice pool and pool-side dining area that alas wasn't open while we were there. The yards are well maintained with lush bushes, flowers and shrubs. The entire house is surrounded by a hedge and fence and felt very secure, quiet and private.

The house location couldn't have been better, truly only 10 minute easy walk to the heart of St. Remy but outside the hustle and bustle. Plus, with it's own secure parking within the electronic gates, it was easy to get home and away via car. It is also an easy 10-15 minute walk to Glanum and the Hospital where Van Gogh stayed, which makes a must-do afternoon walk.

The owner Lucy was easy to work with and a delight to deal with. We have rented homes all over Europe and the Caribbean and we couldn't recommend this place enough. We shall return.

Great accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our 2 week stay at "Baltus" - June 26 to July 10, 2010. The home is unique and well equipped. The grounds, gardens and pool are lovely and private. Easy walk to shops, restaurants, markets and historical sites. Convenient drive to Avignon train station. Owners very helpful and friendly. Our group of 7 (three generations including 4 year old granddaughter) were all very pleased with the accommodations.
