This house is simply spectacular!
Let me start by saying this is a special place! It is simply spectacular, and pictures do not do it justice. Our family is grateful for having had the experience over the past two years of staying at Chris & Greg’s place. We can say without question that this place enhanced our experience on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu. Both years that we have stayed here, our expectations have been exceeded. Mahalo Chris & Greg!
Thank you Stacey! We look forward to seeing you next year!
Great house, great location; had everything we needed and then some.
Owners were responsive to our needs; Mike, the majordomo, was very friendly and helpful, bringing us coconuts and a cleaver to get at the insides, and more fresh papaya than we could eat. Our beautiful days were spectacular, and the overcast days were great. My sons surfed several days off the house, but also say they know their limits, and took a measure of the surf on the big days, and decided on pool time those days.
Overall, a good vacation spot. Loved the veggie garden, and used the chard, tomatoes, green onions, cilantro. Only negative was the need to keep dry the beautiful wood counters in the kitchen. More fuss than I could live with, but we made it work for a week.
Phenomenal View, Beautiful House, Attentive Owners
We celebrated my mother's 80th birthday on Oahu, and our stay at this property made the occasion all the more special. When we arrived, we were surprised with a welcome basket and personalized birthday note. The ocean view is utterly breathtaking, the house is in pristine condition with all the modern amenities, and the yard is immaculate. Upon meeting Mike, the caretaker for the property, it quickly became apparent how much the yard and garden are a labor of love for him. Not a blade of grass was out of place. We enjoyed papayas and herbs and veggies grown in the raised gardens. We were a little early for the bananas to be ripe. The owners were quick to offer up suggestions for local activities and restaurants, also included on visitor sheets in the house. They were very attentive to any concerns that arose and truly wanted us to enjoy our stay. For instance, the jets on the hot tub weren't operating at full strength and a new part was installed in a short amount of time. The coffee maker malfunctioned and was quickly replaced with not one, but two, alternates. The kitchen has plenty of space for several couples to be in there at once preparing separate meals. The grill on the deck worked great and was unbelievably clean. Lighting is a little relaxed, reflecting the laid back vibe in the area, added to by the absence of clocks. Not that we used them much, but there were separate A/C controls and TVs in each of the sleeping areas. We spent the majority of our time on the huge balcony with the large dining table, enjoying the view and sounds of the ocean. You can hear the busy road in the front of the house, mostly notably from the guest house, but earplugs or closing the windows helps. We enjoyed the use of beach chairs, beach towels and even a cooler. The house is well located, just north of the cute little town of Haleiwa, near several beaches and close to a Foodland grocery store in Pupukea. Everyday my husband would awake and say the same thing, "Just another day in paradise." Thanks to the owners, Chris and Greg, for helping us make our mother's birthday a most memorable one.
A magnificent stay
The “Maison de la Mer” is one beautiful home. It is large and beautiful, the owner is very focused on you having a wonderful time. The yard is amazing. I could never get over the amount of land we had right on the beach! Now, there is no sandy beach, you have to go a bit to get that that, but we had a yard a pool and a hot tub! For us that was perfect. The view was amazing with beautiful sunsets and the famous North Shore surf. Beach chairs and other beach stuff was right there. Like papaya? Pick them every day! A garden included! Book it.
Thank You Stan for the wonderful review! We hope to see you again!
Let me just start out by saying every review before mine should be enough to get you to book this amazing, special place! What more can I add other than its PERFECT! I will just point out a few things to help people who have already made a decision to stay here which you SHOULD! We have rented dozens of VRBO's in the past 5-7 years and this was absolutely the best! If you are thinking of coming at the holiday's, just know its a busy time and you will find more crowds than at other times. It did not bother us much but there is some traffic around town and just be prepared. Chris the owner and Mike the groundskeeper go OUT OF THEIR WAY to help you have a nice stay. They have thought of everything and whatever you might need they will help you get. Come with 2 families (we were a family of 4, my husband and I and 20 and 17 year old. Our only regret is that we did not have people to share this special place with. The waves in December are big, be ready and if you don't like waves, well go to Maui! LOL! For our family the North Shore was absolute perfect. There was plenty to do, or we could pick the beach of the day and just relax, or better yet, relax at the "oasis" as I called the house. Don't wait to book this home so you can have one of the most memorable vacations as we did. I am not usually a "repeat booker" in terms of homes but we will defiantly be back someday and will bring friends so we can share this special place! Mahalo Chris, Greg and Mike!
Thank you Lisa for the wonderful review!

Highly recommended by Aussie surfing family
The property was spacious in all aspects and was perfect for our family of 6 with children 14-21yo. The grounds include fantastic lush lawns, fruit trees and a maintained vegetable and herb garden. The main dwelling, huge lanai and large guest studio are well designed, well furnished with all the amenities and equipment you require. There are 3 great surf breaks straight out off the rocks that were not busy as they are hard for the public to access but this is for experienced surfers and some local guidance from mike (the super helpful groundsman) is recommended in terms of getting in and out safely. Locationally it is well positioned between the historic township of Haleiwa and the popular surf beach at Sunset and stones throw from the amazing Waimea Bay Beach and Waimea Valley with walks and waterfalls. The hosts Chris and Greg were friendly and helpful and said they were always just a call away if we needed anything. Thank you to you both, great property, great service.
Our home is located on the North Shore 2 miles north of Haleiwa Town and 1/2 mile south of Waimea Bay. The North Shore is known for its open space with very little development, beautiful country pastures, picture postcard beaches, turtles, fabulous surfing and the best snorkeling on the island. Haleiwa has at least fifteen restaurants, many shops , grocery stores and a large drug store. Here you can learn to surf, or paddle board down the river, or go out for great fishing, or try the shark dive from a cage. Nearby is an airport if you like sky diving or take a glider ride and there is a Polo field and horseback riding. There are excellent walking and hiking trails throughout the North Shore. North of our home one mile in the Pupukea area you will find ten or more casual eating trucks that serve pretty good food. There is a Foodland, which is a very well stocked grocery store. Here you will find great snorkeling at Three Tables and Sharks Cove. North of that a half mile or so is all the famous surf spots, like Pipeline and Sunset Beach. Further north (5 miles) are fun activities at or nearby Turtle Bay Resort including Horse Back Riding, Four Wheeling, dirt bikes on the beach with big fat tires, tennis, golf, and a very fun zip line up to the mountain. Waimea Bay (1/2 mile from our house) has a beautiful sandy beach where you can watch the daredevils jump off the rocks into the ocean. The water is excellent for swimming and snorkeling when the seas are calm (all summer long) and in the winter it becomes the expert surfer destination when the waves are big. Waimea Valley consists of 1,875 acres and has been a sacred place for more than 700 years of Native Hawaiian history. Here you can take a casual walk through the World Class Botainical Gardens and Historical Sites 3/4 of a mile one way or 1 1/2 miles round trip to the Waterfall area. The area has 78 Ancient Hawaiian Archaeological Sites and has a World Class Botanical Garden Collection containing more than 5,000 kinds of tropical and subtropical plants. There is a good restaurant here, open for lunch and brunch. On Thursday nights there is a fun swap meet with lots of good Hawaiian food and products. Once on the North Shore, it is an easy drive to Pearl Harbor or the East and West sides of the Island.
