Location Location Location - Poor Management - Location Location Location

I visited South Carolina for the first time this past summer. I was torn between renting a house or a condo. I opted for a third floor condo close to the beach. This was a wise decision. This unit in particular is classified as an "Oceanside Villa". The development also has "Sea Cabins". The sea cabins are closer to the beach but appear to be smaller. The villas are two bedroom condos with multiple bathrooms and a kitchen. They are very close to the beach. You cross a small public road (5 mph speed limit) and then pass the sea cabins to access the beach. Essentially, you are on the beach. You can't beat this location. Each villa comes with private parking as well. I never had a problem finding a close spot. The development also grants you access to the private pier, private gate to access the beach, private bathrooms, and two private pools.

Oceanside 309C is probably the best unit to choose in the development. I mean that. There are three buildings of villas but the "C" building will give you the best view and closest access to the beach. 309C faces the ocean. You will still look at the sea cabins but the breeze can be felt and smelled. Some units face buildings and other units ("A" building) have views of the IOP water plant (not recommended). The development is close to a strip of restaurants and small stores along the beach. It's also located a very short walk from an actual grocery store (as in a big chain) and more restaurants. The location can't be beat.

So why not 5 stars? The unit was filthy. The management seems incompetent.

Renters pay for a cleaning fee. Are they pocketing the fee? Because the place had dust all over every vent, used pieces of dental floss in a medicine cabinet (I'm serious), and other issues. The cleaning service, if there is one, should be fired. The patio screen was torn rendering it useless. A closet mirror was damaged. There were issues with chipped paint in the tub and chipped plaster in other places. I know this is a rental property and damage will occur but there's not excuse for the dust and used dental floss.

The provided access code to the pier, beach, etc., didn't work. Fortunately another guest gave me their code. Management failed to respond to a message. Throughout the entire booking process, I had to send repeated messages to confirm the trip and to receive arrival instructions. I was not impressed with Carolina One.

Having said all of that, I had a very nice vacation. The location is great.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We always value our guests' input and utilize it as an opportunity to improve our overall guest experience. We are sorry to hear that your property was not cleaned to expectations. We strive to maintain a high level of cleanliness in all our properties and will also be communicating your notes with the cleaning company. Carolina One does not take a percentage of the cleaning fee. The exact amount the guest is charged goes directly to the vendor. Regarding the other wear and tear maintenance items (patio screen/closet mirror/chipped paint/plaster), we will look to have repairs completed as soon as possible. With regards to the failed message response, we are not sure how this happened. Our goal is to always be available for our guests and owners. Our office is open 9:00 - 5:00 (Monday - Saturday) and 10:00 - 4:00 (Sunday) and we have an on-call service available anytime the office is closed. Once again, thank you for your valued feedback and we are glad to hear you had a very nice vacation!

Great property -- spacious living and sleeping area and perfect location (short walk to the beach)

  • 4 of 5

The property itself is such a gem -- two bedrooms, a great living and kitchen area, an ocean view, and (best of all) a super quick walk to the beach. Just cross the street and you're there! I had trouble locating the email with our door code in it, but was quickly put through to the property managers. Unfortunately, the key code they gave us did not work. They were quick to resolve the issue and give us a new code. Two small things: the description said there would be 2 bath towels per occupant and we found only 1 per occupant; and some of us had trouble getting our devices to work with the Wi-Fi. Other than those minor glitches, we totally enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it.

We stayed in this condo in July of 2016. It was a wonderful place to stay. Clean and well appointed, we had everything we needed and plenty of room for our family. Our only drawback with this condo was carrying the luggage upstairs to the 3rd floor. We certainly enjoyed our stay and will be back!
