About Ryan and Lorelei
As an active family that often travels for work and fun (both with and without our kids), we've become real fans of AirBnB and Home Away as guests. We're now very happy as hosts to share the beautiful guest apartment that we furnished in our house for our family and friends. We've lived in Idaho, Chicago, up and down the I-5 corridor (Seattle to Eugene), with stints in Ecuador and Trinidad. We're now very happily settled out in Portland. We love traveling, especially here in the Pacific Northwest, but also throughout the country and internationally. When we travel, we appreciate the serendipitous experiences that find us when we act as humble guests in the local scene, and we try to avoid the culture-consumer tourist mode. When we do, we happily find what the place would like to share with us, rather than looking for what we would like to take from it. And an important part of why we travel and host: We love to meet people of all faiths, cultures, identities and orientations. We are safe, welcoming hosts and gracious guests - not regardless of, but because of who you are.
Ryan and Lorelei purchased this Apartment in 2010
Why Ryan and Lorelei chose St. Johns
We bought this beautiful duplex as our family home in one of the most vibrant, interesting neighborhoods in Portland. We live upstairs, and we've fully furnished the bright two-bedroom rental unit in the basement, primarily for extended stays from our family and friends. We're happy now to extend the same hospitality to you.
What makes this Apartment unique
This is a beautiful, private apartment in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland. It has excellent access to the nearby University of Portland, great neighborhood shops and restaurants, and some of Portland's best natural areas. We're happy to share our 50A Level 2 electric vehicle charger or locked bike shed, if you're an EV driver or bringing your bikes along.

Cozy and comfortable
My 21-year-old granddaughter was having some surgery and we needed a place that was peaceful and that’s exactly what we got. We very much enjoyed having Netflix.
St. John's Stay with Ryan and Lorelie
We have stayed at this property twice now and find it well appointed, clean, with rules and check in and check out procedures easily understood. Kitchen was appointed well with pots, pans, etc. so that we could cook. In addition, the owners have put together a book that shows various restaurants, walking areas, running areas, shopping, etc. in St. Johns. In addition, they have bus schedules to downtown Portland should guests wish to use public transportation. We have enjoyed our stay both times.
Nice place in a great little area of Portland
Everything was wonderful! Nice, clean, quiet, and in a great location to either head downtown or for visiting the local restaurants, brewpubs, and food trucks. Highly recommended!
Nice and homey
Very nice 2 bedroom with one bath. Lots of conveniences provided. Very cozy neighborhood, close to university and restaurants. I would stay again!!
Comfortable with Great Location
Very comfortable basement apartment well-situated in St. John's. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked. Easy and ample parking. You can tell that the owners themselves have stayed at several rental homes as a family and have equipped it for just that. One note is that the family lives upstairs and you can hear kids running and jumping right up until quiet hours, so this wouldn't be for anyone requiring a quiet 24/7 environment. We were fine with it all, though.
A fantastic location and great place is all you usually need when traveling, but throw in great hosts who do all the little things and it goes to 6 stars. Thank you!
Portland is a city of neighborhoods, and St. Johns is unique among them. We love it here, and can enthusiastically recommend great neighborhood businesses while you're here. The neighborhood was originally settled as its own separate town, later annexed into Portland, and it retains the feel of a small town in the middle of the City. Our house is within easy walking distance of downtown St. Johns, with two movie theaters, lots of interesting shops, parks, restaurants, and pubs. We're just 1.5 miles from the University of Portland (a five-minute drive, or an easy bus ride away). We're within two blocks of a full grocery store, an Enterprise car rental office, a great food cart pod (with beer!), and multiple bus lines. St. Johns is also a great gateway into the natural beauty of Portland. The neighborhood sits at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, with huge, beautiful parks and natural wetlands. A quick hop across the St. Johns Bridge puts you at the hiking trailheads of Portland's Forest Park, or on your way to the short ride to downtown Portland, Sauvie Island's working farms, and to Oregon's coast, wine country, and mountains within easy day trip range.
Portland is known for its walkability and public transit, and our place is great for both. You can walk to all of the amenities in St. Johns, and there are four bus lines (the 75, 44, 16 and 4) within easy walking distance for venturing further into Portland. If you're driving, there is plenty of free street parking immediately around our house, and we're within two blocks of an Enterprise car rental office. We're also happy to recommend local taxi cab companies (Radio Cab is great for getting to the airport), and Uber and Lyft are available, too. We're happy to share our bike shed, if you're bringing your bikes along.
