About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Due to major remodeling this summer, we can’t commit to any dates at this time. If rental becomes possible during this season, please let me know of your interest so that I can notify you of any availability.

Michigan sunsets and crystal clear waters equals life on "Cross Village time". Located on Michigan's #1 scenic drive, the towns of Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Mackinaw City and Cheboygan are all within a 30-minute drive. The great room is all windows facing the lake offering an unrestricted view of Lake Michigan. A spacious deck, just a few steps out the door, juts out over the beach for sunning and star-gazing.

If your idea of vacation is active, the area offers boating, hiking the north country trails, biking, antiquing and shopping. Three Pines Gallery and the famous Legs Inn are a one mile walk into Cross Village. Seven miles north of Cross Village, Bliss Park has acres of climbing dunes and sandy beach.

Bringing water shoes is recommended for swimming and beach-walking because the beach and water are a mixture of sand and rounded rocks. The beach in front of the house is sandy but the amount of sandy lake bottom varies from year to year.

The deck rests on large boulders jutting out over the beach. If your children are under the age of reason, constant supervision would be required to prevent them from climbing through the railings.

About Julie Appel-Hill

Cottage is owned by a family trust. Our parents built this lake house in the early 60's when his family was young with the help of a local Indian carpenter and stonemason. When the family grew, they built another cottage on the bluff across M-119 which is reserved for family use. We rent the lake house to help preserve our family tradition for yet another generation.

Julie Appel-Hill purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Julie Appel-Hill chose Harbor Springs

Cross Village and the changing moods of Lake Michigan provide a getaway that restores perspective to our hectic lives. The view from inside the house feels like you're on a boat overlooking the water. See reviews.

What makes this cottage unique

The beaches along this stretch of Lake Michigan are sparsely populated. You can walk the waterline for miles and encounter few souls.

Another beautiful family vacation

  • 5 of 5

This September was our third year of staying at this magical place! My 10 year old granddaughter walked in when we arrived and I heard her say "I love this place" She has joined us all three years and knows the routine. Fires and family games at night, beach walk and swimming during the day, maybe a trip to Petosky for ice cream. This year was great weather not as busy with tourists as other years when we went earlier. It was our favorite week so far! Very relaxing, beautiful sunsets, sunshine! No phone, no tv! Julie is attentive to details and wants to be sure everything is just right. Our family(including 2 dogs that love to swim) look forward to this get away every year! We cooked or grilled every night. The kitchen is well equipped for making breakfast, lunch or dinner. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys nature, beauty and a central location for visiting Petosky, Mackinac or the UP. Thank you for sharing your lovely place on the lake with us. It has been a true blessing for our family to spend time decompressing and reconnecting!

Lake Michigan Magic

  • 5 of 5

An unforgettable stay with a free-spirited retro vibe - relaxing, comfortable, fun - we hope to come back. Lake Michigan was breathtaking - calm and clear then dramatic and wild - never boring, always romantic. Worth every penny! Thank you Julie for a truly special memory.

Another fabulous vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year I have had the privilege to stay in this wonderful cottage. Everything about it is perfect for a relaxing vacation. The view of Lake Michigan from inside the cottage and from the deck cannot be beat. We ate every meal we could outside on the spacious deck. It was perfect for reading a book and watching sunsets, too. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. The beds are very comfortable, and it is wonderful to fall asleep each night to the sound of waves. Having use of the two kayaks is always an added bonus. This year our dog got to come along for a little kayak trip, too, and loved it! I hope to be back again. Thanks, Julie, for letting us enjoy another week in this special place!
