About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

At this time our cottage is booked June 3 - September 30. If you want to be kept on a cancellation list, just let us know. Michigan sunsets and crystal clear waters equals life on "Cross Village time". Located on Michigan's #1 scenic drive, the towns of Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Mackinaw City and Cheboygan are all within a 30-minute drive. The great room is all windows facing the lake offering an unrestricted view of Lake Michigan. A spacious deck, just a few steps out the door, juts out over the beach for sunning and star-gazing.

Rentals during the summer season 6/10/17 - 9/30/17 are full weeks only Saturday to Saturday. We are fully booked for 2017. You are welcome to e-mail to let us know if you'd like to be contacted if there is a cancellation.

If your idea of vacation is active, the area offers boating, hiking the north country trails, biking, antiquing and shopping. Three Pines Gallery and the famous Legs Inn are a one mile walk into Cross Village. Seven miles north of Cross Village, Bliss Park has acres of climbing dunes and sandy beach.

Bringing water shoes is recommended for swimming and beach-walking because the beach and water are a mixture of sand and rounded rocks. The beach in front of the house is sandy but the amount of sandy lake bottom varies from year to year.

The deck rests on large boulders jutting out over the beach. If your children are under the age of reason, constant supervision would be required to prevent them from climbing through the railings.

About Julie Appel-Hill

Cottage is owned by a family trust. Our parents built this lake house in the early 60's when his family was young with the help of a local Indian carpenter and stonemason. When the family grew, they built another cottage on the bluff across M-119 which is reserved for family use. We rent the lake house to help preserve our family tradition for yet another generation.

Julie Appel-Hill purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Julie Appel-Hill chose Northern Michigan

Cross Village and the changing moods of Lake Michigan provide a getaway that restores perspective to our hectic lives. The view from inside the house feels like you're on a boat overlooking the water. See reviews.

What makes this cottage unique

The beaches along this stretch of Lake Michigan are sparsely populated. You can walk the waterline for miles and encounter few souls.

Another fabulous vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year I have had the privilege to stay in this wonderful cottage. Everything about it is perfect for a relaxing vacation. The view of Lake Michigan from inside the cottage and from the deck cannot be beat. We ate every meal we could outside on the spacious deck. It was perfect for reading a book and watching sunsets, too. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. The beds are very comfortable, and it is wonderful to fall asleep each night to the sound of waves. Having use of the two kayaks is always an added bonus. This year our dog got to come along for a little kayak trip, too, and loved it! I hope to be back again. Thanks, Julie, for letting us enjoy another week in this special place!

Second Visit

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property again this summer and enjoyed our visit every bit as much as the first time. Mother Nature did not cooperate and the weather was mostly cool with rain but that did not deter us from enjoying the magic of Lake MI and Cross Village. The huge lakeside windows allowed for fabulous viewing of the changing weather. When the weather broke we were able to swim, float and kayak. The beach here is sand and fairly shallow for quite a way out. The kitchen is well appointed and a gas grill got a workout cooking the fresh whitefish we bought from a fisherman at the public landing. We hope to return for many years to come. The owner is very accommodating and knowledgable of the area.

A Perfect Cottage for a Summer Vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Julie and Jan's cottage is truly amazing. We can go on and on all day. We stayed there with 2 kids (4-1/2, 2-1/2 years old) and had a great time. It's a perfect setting for a nice summer vacation. We enjoyed the nice sandy beach, breathtaking sunset every evening, took a nice long walk on the beach to the legs inn and picked up the most delicious carrot cake, awesome neighbors, perfect for kayak, jet skiing, biking/running in the tunnel of trees, and etc. Many thanks to Appels for letting us stay in your cottage. We can't wait to go back next year.

Beautiful Comfortable Wonderful!

  • 4 of 5

We love forward to visiting Lake Michigan at least once a year. This cottage gave us the opportunity to be RIGHT on the water. The deck which overlooks the waves, faces the North West providing perfect views of the sunset as well as Beaver Island. A wall of windows in the living room with cozy couches, though nothing beats the rocking chair, allowed the same view regardless of the time or weather.

The king size bed was comfortable. The rest of the beds are twins. It might not be an ideal place for two couples, however it was great for one couple. The kitchen was perfectly adequate. Thank you for the spices that were available. No need for a dishwasher!

One visit a year - we will be back!
