About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

At this time our cottage is booked June 3 - September 30. If you want to be kept on a cancellation list, just let us know. Michigan sunsets and crystal clear waters equals life on "Cross Village time". Located on Michigan's #1 scenic drive, the towns of Harbor Springs, Petoskey, Mackinaw City and Cheboygan are all within a 30-minute drive. The great room is all windows facing the lake offering an unrestricted view of Lake Michigan. A spacious deck, just a few steps out the door, juts out over the beach for sunning and star-gazing.

Rentals during the summer season 6/10/17 - 9/30/17 are full weeks only Saturday to Saturday. We are fully booked for 2017. You are welcome to e-mail to let us know if you'd like to be contacted if there is a cancellation.

If your idea of vacation is active, the area offers boating, hiking the north country trails, biking, antiquing and shopping. Three Pines Gallery and the famous Legs Inn are a one mile walk into Cross Village. Seven miles north of Cross Village, Bliss Park has acres of climbing dunes and sandy beach.

Bringing water shoes is recommended for swimming and beach-walking because the beach and water are a mixture of sand and rounded rocks. The beach in front of the house is sandy but the amount of sandy lake bottom varies from year to year.

The deck rests on large boulders jutting out over the beach. If your children are under the age of reason, constant supervision would be required to prevent them from climbing through the railings.

About Julie Appel-Hill

Cottage is owned by a family trust. Our parents built this lake house in the early 60's when his family was young with the help of a local Indian carpenter and stonemason. When the family grew, they built another cottage on the bluff across M-119 which is reserved for family use. We rent the lake house to help preserve our family tradition for yet another generation.

Julie Appel-Hill purchased this cottage in 1963

Why Julie Appel-Hill chose Northern Michigan

Cross Village and the changing moods of Lake Michigan provide a getaway that restores perspective to our hectic lives. The view from inside the house feels like you're on a boat overlooking the water. See reviews.

What makes this cottage unique

The beaches along this stretch of Lake Michigan are sparsely populated. You can walk the waterline for miles and encounter few souls.

Beautiful Comfortable Wonderful!

  • 4 of 5

We love forward to visiting Lake Michigan at least once a year. This cottage gave us the opportunity to be RIGHT on the water. The deck which overlooks the waves, faces the North West providing perfect views of the sunset as well as Beaver Island. A wall of windows in the living room with cozy couches, though nothing beats the rocking chair, allowed the same view regardless of the time or weather.

The king size bed was comfortable. The rest of the beds are twins. It might not be an ideal place for two couples, however it was great for one couple. The kitchen was perfectly adequate. Thank you for the spices that were available. No need for a dishwasher!

One visit a year - we will be back!

Amazing lake view, awesome fireplace

  • 5 of 5

We've been staying in Cross Village for years, but this was our first time staying here. We were immediately blown away by the amazing lake view and how close we were to the water. We spent our days reading books by the fire and looking out at the lake. We saw a herd of deer come down to the water one morning. It was an excellent experience and we will be coming back.

We are a vegan household, so we cook all meals in house when we're in Cross Village. My only very small gripe about the rental is that the glass cooktop was very difficult to work with, but that didn't detract from our overall experience.

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. If you're not accustomed to using a solid cooktop, I know they require a learning curve. However, they certainly are easier to keep clean in rental property. Thanks for your feedback!

Perfectly peaceful slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Peaceful cozy beachy serenity in the heart of the Michigan's busy Fall Color season. These three sisters had a wonderful time exporing the area during the day..but we were just as happy to return to this private little gem to sit on the deck, stare at the water and wait for the stars to come out. Very clean, comfortable and homey.

Lovely place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying here and it was just as much fun this time as the first. You can be out and about exploring and on the go or just hanging out on the property. The deck is awesome! We had coffee there in the AM and drinks PM. The fireplace is really nice and gives just the right amount of cozy to the cabin. We never saw any neighbors or had anyone bother us. Didn't even miss our cell phones!
