Seaside House Rental Photos and Description

Immaculate, Charming little Cottage, SPA, Back Yd, 2 blks to Promenade.

HISTORIC BIRDIE'S Cottage:

Perfect for up to three guests.

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom.

New outdoor Therapeutic SPA!

We are a no pets/ no smoking vacation home.

I only charge one fee, other than my nightly fee, and that is the housekeeper's fee. This entire fee goes to Barb, who has been with us since day one and who makes sure our home is immaculate for each guest. We DON'T have handling (or manager) fees, Spa fees, or additional guests fees.

BIRDIE'S COTTAGE: A UNIQUE BEACH HOME: Immaculate! Cozy and Charming! Top-notch quality amenities! Filled with amazing antiques, vintage souvenirs and collectibles! This unique, historic (over 100 years old) home and landscaped yard have been beautifully maintained for 40 years by owners, Ron and Kay Slusarenko, a Portland Architect and Portland Artist.

IDEAL LOCATION: On a quiet street and one block to the beach! Close to everything!

So easy to walk to the river, to the ocean; to walk to the shopping outlet or to the downtown shops. So easy to walk to the Entertainment Center, to the Aquarium, and to the dozens of restaurants serving everything from freshly caught seafood to handmade pizzas.

Hop in the car and within 15-18 minutes (with scenic views) you are in Cannon Beach, or in the opposite direction, Astoria with all its beautiful Victorian architecture. And in-between are state parks, hiking, biking and walking trails with breathtaking views of the ocean.

THE COTTAGE: In the living room, the high gloss painted wood walls make this space light and airy. Comfortable furniture is a must. A secret door holds snow domes on glass shelves, collected abroad and around the USA. Everywhere you look are special collections, original artwork, and one of a kind vintage souvenirs.

The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances (including a gas stove, a dishwasher, a coffeemaker and a microwave) located next to charming collections from the 1940s and 1950s.

The compact bathroom has all the requirements; a toilet, a sink, mirror, and a sparkling clean shower with glass front doors. The space is stocked with lovely towel sets, shampoo, hand soaps, hair dryer, rolls of toilet paper, facial wipes and kleenex.

In the Twin Bedroom there is a reading library for adults and children. And if anyone wants to see a children's movie just open the bottom dresser drawer. You'll be able to select from over a dozen of the best Disney's films ever made. Lots of games and board games in this bedroom.

The Double Bed Bedroom has a comfy bed surrounded by paint-by-numbers hung on the wall. The bench in this bedroom has 2 purposes, one to allow guests to sit on it and two, to open up the bench seat and select one of over 200 DVDs and VHS movies! There are even more movies under the bench.

OUTDOORS: There is a two-seat SPA (made in Oregon) for your enjoyment. This charming SPA is noted for providing therapeutic benefits; from physical to emotional stress relief, alleviating muscle pain to relieve arthritis and sore joints.

There is a pretty trellis with lights to turn on in the evenings, a gas BBQ, picnic table and outdoor furniture for every one to enjoy both day and night. And the tree swing is always a favorite of young and old alike!

Birdie's Cottage is a destination for couples, those wishing to reconnect with friends, a get-away-from-the-city rejuvenator for the weekend, and a perfect environment to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary or a honeymoon.

We can't wait for you to visit!

About Kay Slusarenko

We are a Portland Architect and a Portland Artist who have owned Birdie's Cottage and Scout's Cottage since 1976. The two homes were built in the early 1900s and were part of a motor court with drive-in units. Sadly, a fire erupted one night and all but the main house and the laundry/fish cleaning unit were destroyed.

We rescued these two buildings from being demolished and in the summer of 1976 we, along with our three young sons, started working to restore them. We focused on honoring their past and adding modern conveniences to make our guests feel welcomed and comfortable.

Kay Slusarenko purchased this house in 1976

Owner's Response: One correction to Graham's review. He calls Birdie's Cottage a "unit". Birdie's Cottage is not a unit; a vacation rental located within a larger building or group of buildings. Birdie's Cottage is a detached little cottage home with a lovely front and back yard. Graham stated in his review, he and his wife enjoyed biking around Seaside. There are so many great biking paths now for Seaside visitors to enjoy. I write a monthly newsletter for our guests. In it I give the names and directions to nearby biking and hiking (as well as those, like me, who enjoy walking!) trails up and down the Oregon Coast. Our cottage is only a few minutes away from the BEST BIKE RENTAL/REPAIR SHOP in Seaside. I also, in my newsletter, talk about the many varieties of bikes there are to rent, from baby strollers to 3 wheel beach vehicles to surreys with fringe on top (my favorite) to tandem bikes for beach and for street use. Just another great reason to visit Seaside! And to stay at Birdie's Cottage. Kay

Welcoming, cheerful, Immaculate, Vintage Cottage Charm

  • 5 of 5

Kay and Ron's Birdie Cottage is not only cheerful, immaculate and comfy cozy; it allows guests to experience a Vintage Vibe with modern attention to detail. From the Hamilton Beech malted mixer to the 1950's sparkling clean buffet/punch dishes, hot tub, coffee maker, DVDs, fully equipped kitchen cookware, utensils, vintage artwork all while maintaining the architectural flavor of the original structure. The bedding was; so dang comfortable...oh and finally the access to the stunning and inspiring Oregon Coast; tres magnifique. #birdiescottage on Instagram

Wonderful and thoughtful accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

It was such a pleasure to stay at Birdie's Cottage. I am a details person and very much appreciated all the attention to special touches Kay included with her rental. A surprise at every corner! Who knew there were vintage Magic 8 Balls in every size?! Or snow globes from all over the world? Or singing wide-mouth bass? My two daughters, ages 8 and 9, enjoyed the place as well, and were charmed by the decor and delighted by the cuteness. I also enjoyed the more practical touches: plush designer towels, darling window dressings, and immaculate bathroom (immaculate everything!). Thank you to Kay for providing such a special place to visit!

Owner's Response: Dear Katie and Douglas, Thank you for taking your time to write such a thoughtful review of Birdie's Cottage! Your family is a delight and will always be very welcome to return to either of our cottages. (We also are the owners of Historic Scout's Cottage, a larger but equally charming beach home, property #405286). Thank you for talking about the quality of the towels, bedding and furniture plus how immaculate everything is. I have the best housekeeper, Barb, who is passionate about her work, who loves our two cottages and wants every guest to arrive and to open the door to a super-clean, super-organized and charming cottage unlike any place that our guests have ever stayed in before! She has been with me from day one and I brag about her anytime I have the opportunity! Kay

Charming and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

A girl friend and myself enjoyed a relaxing vacation at Birdie's cottage, prefect for a girl's weekend away! The swing and the spa were perfect absolutely wonderful! The space is small, but adorable and comfortable. We enjoyed watching movies, drinking tea, and enjoying local seafood (we recommend buying fresh crab from the Bell Buoy). The location is ideal and the owners were very easy to contact and full of great suggestions!

Owner's Response: Thank you! I'm delighted to know that your stay was relaxing and that you found the cottage to be cozy and charming! I hope you had an opportunity to use the outdoor spa. It is our newest addition and our guests are raving about how wonderful it is to relax in after a full day of coastal adventures! I agree with you on your recommendation of where to buy fresh seafood! Birdie's Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen that provides our guests with contemporary cookware and utensils that results in making every meal very special. I love that we can give our guests a wide assortment of vintage dish sets to choose from to place that special meal on! Our cottage's little dishwasher may look cute but it is definitely a grownup appliance that makes cleaning up a snap. Kay

Had a blast!

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed here, had an absolute blast! The cottage is very well taken care of, is quite comfortable, and has great access to the beach and a short walk to the prom. I highly recommend this cottage, you will love it!

Owner's Response: Dear Anonymous, I've never received an anonymous review before. I appreciate your lovely comments but I am surprised that VRBO allowed your review to be submitted without saying who you are. OH! I just figured out who you are because it shows that you stayed at the cottage starting 4/29! You and your girlfriend were delightful and you took such good care of our home. I just don't want a reader to think that anyone can leave a review. You have to be a guest, which in a review shows the date of your stay but now I understand that you can choose not to use your name. Kay

Charming , cozy, has all you need Including new 2 man spa, tiny is the key word at Birdies cottage

  • 3 of 5

It is one block away from the beach which is private beautiful sand very quiet Bertie's cottage is all that you will make it to be.The wood signs above the kitchen table made for great conversation. The wonderful meals made lobster steak fried egg sandwiches macaroni and cheese and hotdogs. sleeping is tight won't work for anyone over 200 pounds has double bed with Hamic which makes you sleep very cozy single beds great for child or teenager. showers tight but great water pressure and never lost hot water. very roomy backyard, the two-man hot tub was amazing. The swing in the backyard was such an added bonus for us over the hill kiddies, hitting the top branch isn't as easy as you may think! The miniature rubber horseshoe game was a hoot as well. Sharing a bbq with the neighbors was a bit awkward. The towels in kitchen and bath are delightful the kitchen faucet became almost human as he spoke to us every time we used him, if you're there to watch TV won't be a place for you if you're there for a big party this home is definitely not the place go next-door to the bigger place. You can bike anywhere from birdies cottage and walking the neighborhood is also an added bonus, delightful, restful recharging place to stay for a weekend.

It is a 1910 home and when your hot dogs roll off the counter, you will need to improvise!and this makes this and many ore very memorable.

Owner's Response: Dear Reader, This is the first 3 stars review I've ever received. Ironically, Chris's review has many (15 in fact!) positive comments using words like, "Charming, Private, Beautiful, Quiet, Roomy, Amazing, Delightful, Restful and Recharging." Please note that "IF YOU ARE A LARGE FRAMED PERSON THEN BIRDIE'S COTTAGE MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD FIT FOR YOU". I send this message to each of my guests so that they are aware that although Birdie's Cottage isn't tiny, it is indeed a small house. That is its charm and that's why our guests love staying in a smaller but fully functional unique beach cottage. It's simply a really fun experience! Chris's other comment is "if you are there to watch TV it won't be the place for you." FACT: The cottage has free wireless internet service and basic cable for the TV. And over 200 movies from Portland's best video store, Clinton Street Video Store. Chris also mentioned that he had to share the BBQ. FACT: We have two cottages, Birdie's Cottage and Scout's Cottage. They EACH have their own gas BBQ , outdoor furniture, and their own hot tub. I can't control, nor do I want to control, the reviews my guests take the time to write. Chris and his family were very nice guests. I appreciate that I could talk to Chris openly about the shock of receiving a 3 stars review. I would also welcome Chris to return any time to stay at either of our cottages. Thank you for taking the time to read my response. Kay
