Spacious open plan house with large covered terrace overlooking pool and stream.
Stylish, beautifully decorated villa with pool and large garden, in small village set in the heart of spectacular Cathar country. Modern, open-plan kitchen leading onto dining area which in turn leads onto lounge, glazed on two sides with patio doors opening onto huge covered terrace overlooking the pool, 9m x 3.9m (Maximum depth 1.9m, minimum 1.1m ) and garden. There are plenty of sunloungers and 2 huge parasols for extra shade round the pool The covered patio also provides plenty of shade during day and gets late evening sun for relaxed dining. Teak patio furniture for 8 and plenty of room for the BBQ! Sunny, 2000m2 garden has a large grassy area to the rear of the house overlooking fields, which is ideal for childrens games. A small stream runs along the edge of the garden.
The house is on the edge of Rivel, a small quiet village of around 200 people with a medieval centre. It is 5 minutes drive from the small attractive town of Chalabre. Chalabre has several restaurants and bars, a pharmacy, bank (with cash point) small supermarkets, butchers and vegetable shops. Weekly market.

We Booked this Villa with some friends of ours and our first impressions of the villa and the setting were fantastic. Its location was perfect and nice and peaceful and for four adults and four children more than adequate. Carcassonne is about a forty five minute drive away which has loads of things to do shopping and eating etc and with Sue no more than an email away and Jenny living just up the road you are always in good hands should you have any questions or hiccups. Looking back at our holiday pictures we will definitely be returning for some more wonderful memories. All in all i would highly recommend this place to anyone .
How nice to receive this review now when you've been looking back at your holiday photos from the summer!
Grey and chilly here but blue sky, sun, parasols and the pool in
Rivel. Nice glass of wine with the evening sun just coming under the edge of the terrace roof before it slips behind the hill. I want it to be summer too!
Glad you have lovely photos and memories too. Hope to see you soon.
A wonderful property in a beautiful area of France
For 2 families of 4 this was the perfect place for us to stay with plenty of space for everyone.
It was extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean with everything you could ask for and more.
The most important feature for us was the heated swimming pool which was amazing.
Sue, the owner was incredibly helpful in every way as were the people caring for the villa.
Lots to do in the surrounding areas and very relaxing by the pool.
A special mention to the restaurant on the road to Chalabre with the childrens play area. Lovely food and very friendly owners.
I would not hesitate to recommend this villa for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in this lovely property in this charming area of France. Many Thanks Sue.
Lovely review, many thanks!
The heated pool is always lovely, particularly at the beginning and end of the season. It's possible to still enjoy the warm water in October as I did last year, and make the most of the lovely autumn weather we often have in Rivel.
We always enjoy strolling gently 10 minutes down the road to eat at the Moulin de L'Eveque knowing we'll have a lovely meal, usually on the terrace which has lots of sun. Worth trying Dorota's aperitifs! Blanquette de Limoux with a dash of Chataigne always goes down well. (Fizz with a dash of chestnut liqueur.)
We'll be back ourselves shortly and are still finding new places to visit, even after 10 years.
Hope to have you back next year.
Great hideaway and a relaxing place for some clean living
Just back from a July break staying at this lovely villa in the peaceful village of Rivel. Five of us fitted very comfortably in the house and all enjoyed the pool daily. the locality has all manner of interest from walking in the Mountains, exploring the many Cathar castles, enjoying a trip around some vinyards or just a simple afternoon with a barbecue and swim.
Only thing I would say is there is no TV reception or WifI so do remember the DVDs for the little ones.
Sue, the owner, was very helpful and everything worked the way it should.
Great that you enjoyed yourselves and had a relaxing time. The children always love the pool and spacious garden with the hammock by the stream. Lots to do in the areas or everyone. Hope to see you again soon.
Superb property in beautiful area.
My wife and I have just returned from our third stay at this delightful house in Rivel. The house is in a secluded position, not overlooked and with neighbouring properties far enough away to almost disappear, yet it is on the edge of the tiny, medieval village of Rivel and, just a few kilometres away, is the small market town of Chalabre.
The house is spacious and airy with lovely views of the surrounding hills and woodland from the windows and garden. It is superbly fitted out with everything one can think of, from kitchen equipment, lounging comforts, to patio and poolside furniture. The pool is lovely, when we were there the temperatures were reaching the mid thirties so we spent much time immersed in the cool water. Unusually, this property also offers secure, off road parking for at least two cars. A big plus for us as we love touring France in our Morgan sports car.
Sue, the property owner, provides excellent communications both before, and during your stay, should it be necessary. Her team that service the house, pool and garden all live locally, speak english and can solve any problem that may arise.
We highly recommend this villa for a holiday encompassing all the best that France has to offer.
Lovely to have you back for a third time. It's a pleasure to have such lovely guests.
Your beautiful car produced quite a stir locally with a lot of people asking me who it belonged to. Would have liked to have said it was mine but unfortunately you wouldn't leave it behind. The parking on the drive is useful and keeps vehicles away from any careless passing tractors that might do a spot of damage. Not something you would want with a car like yours!
You had very hot weather for June so I'm glad you enjoyed the pool. We can usually use it with the pool heating till mid October.
Hope to see you for a fourth time!
A lovely villa in a quiet village
Really great place for a change of pace and a relaxing holiday. Good facilities and plenty of room for all the family.
Pleased you had a relaxing holiday and liked the house. It is peaceful sitting on the patio looking at the garden and pool, with the birds singing and the sound of cowbells in the distance. Possibly a glass of wine helps too!
At this time of year the pool heating is great because without it, even with the warm weather you've had , the water would not have had time to warm up. The heating keeps it at 28 degrees C which is perfect, particularly if children want to stay a long time in the water. Hope to see you again.
Other Activities: Ski station, Mont D'Olmes 45 minutes drive.
