This beautiful self-catering villa is hidden on a hill with stunning views overlooking vineyards, hazelnut plantations and, in the distance, the Swiss Alps. With four bedrooms (sleeping 9-10 people), Casa di Gallo is a relaxing get-away for people who enjoy home from home comforts, light and spacious rooms and comfortable beds with luxury bedding. There are lovely walks directly from the house through the Moscato vineyards, or up to the local village. Or just relax on a sunlounger, enjoy the views and wildlife, play table tennis, darts or petanque (boules) and enjoy al fresco meals under the vine-covered pergola with a cold glass of Prosecco and some of the local foods from the wonderful Italian food markets.
We are a family who love food, wine, nature, peace, quiet and the authentic Italian experience. We have travelled and lived all over the world but this is a corner of paradise that we love. The views, the nature, the food that tastes superb. Piemonte has it all.
Susie Gates purchased this farmhouse in 2007
We are having a great time here, and enjoying the house immensely! Nicely laid out, well-equipped kitchen and enough storage for clothes and such. All that and it's beautiful as well! Thank you
Had a lovely holiday staying at Casa di Gallo, the house was spacious, well equipped and had fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and on clear days you can see the snow capped Alps. The village nearby had an a well stocked mini market with a bar next door, great for stopping off for a drink and a bite to eat following a walk in the area. Oddly there was also a shop in the village selling incredible Torrone and other delicacies which made a hole in our baggage allowance!!
The house is well positioned for exploring the region whatever your taste.
We would recommend Casa di Gallo to anyone.
House was well laid out with everything you need provided. Many different areas outside the house to relax and enjoy the views. The location is brilliant (very peaceful) with lots to do in the surrounding area. Restaurants within walking distance and on our one afternoon of rain we had our own mini Olympics with table tennis, darts and table football (all provided). Would recommend to anyone.
Casa di Gallo is a truly beautiful place. It is a house where one immediately feels comfortable and 'at home.' It is well equipped and the furnishings are to a high standard.
Outside the views are incredible (one can see literally for miles) with the Swiss Alps forming the perfect horizon. Our kids loved the extensive gardens with plenty of areas for adventure while we simply enjoyed the peaceful and natural setting... at least while the boys were off exploring.
In terms of location this is a great base from which to explore the area of Piedmont which is a food and wine lover's paradise.
We are all looking forwrad to our next visit!
We vacationed here for two weeks in the summer of 2008 and had the most fantastic time of our lives, and we're still talking about it.
The house is very clean and well appointed, with all the basic necessities of life - shower, coffee maker, BBQ and wine glasses!
Endless information is provided about the surrounding area, so there is no chance of running out of things to do - only time to do it all in!
We spent several days exploring the immediate neighbourhood on foot and by car. We visited the local markets for fresh food on an almost daily basis and the local coffee shop was amazing - my kids still talk about their gelato and Italian hot chocolate (more like a melted milk chocolate bar in a cup!)
We also took a few day trips to local wineries, the largest outdoor pool in Europe in Aqua Terme and we even made it in to Turin for some sight seeing.
The views form the house were absolutely stunning and I can imagine nothing better than sitting outside on a warm evening enjoying the view with a glass of local wine in hand, food cooking on the BBQ and listening to the noise of happy children playing in the background.
We plan to return again and have recommended it to many of our friends who also travel.
"We spent the last two weeks of October 2009 in Casa di Gallo and found the climate at that time most conducive as not being too hot, so we were able to visit many of the surrounding areas of beauty in comfort, experiencing not only the food and wine but also seeking out the historical places of interest!! We also visited many markets and street fairs and obtained what appeared to be many ‘objet d'arts’, but it was fun to be bartering!! The 'Casa di Gallo Bible', prepared by Susie and left in the property, gave every place and thing to seek out, plus numerous other pieces of information one may wish to know - hardly a need for a Tourist Office! In the evenings after the sun had gone down we were able to relax in front of a beautiful wood burning fireplace. The owners' prime requirement is to provide a 'home from home' atmosphere and they have certainly achieved it. The towels and bed linen provided is something to die for, they are so luxurious. We particularly enjoyed visiting the small villages nestling in the hillsides and being able to really appreciate the local delights, especially the Turonne (nougat) made locally in Cassinasco, and the area is surrounded by acres of hazelnut trees. We were fortunate to be able to visit the Truffle Fair in Alba, something to have to be seen to be believed - fantastic experience. That same evening we were invited to a Michelin starred restaurant in Canelli (ten minutes away) for a gastronomic dinner designed around the local fresh truffles. We were very sad to leave but thank you very much to Susie and David for allowing us the opportunity to stay in your beautiful home - we hope to be back!! I am sure all future tenants will enjoy Casa di Gallo as much as we did."
The area is well known for its fantastic wines; Barolo, Barbaresco and Asti and great food: including the white Truffle, Grissini, Nutella, and some fabulous cheeses. Explore these vineyards or visit the 'underground cathedrals' in nearby Canelli. Visit the surrounding medieval villages, castles and experience local Italian festivals. Swim in Europe's largest swimming pool or in natural rivers, drive to the coast for a day at the beach or visit the famous resorts of Camogli and Portofino. Shop at the colourful food markets, visit antique markets or go designer clothes shopping in Turin or Milan. Eat gelati, hot chocolate, freshly made pasta or just relax in the garden playing boules (petanque), table tennis, exploring the wildlife and the woods.
