The one and only island of Daufuskie! Take the ferry from Hilton Head or Savannah and feel any stress in your life instantly go away with the soft breeze and the refreshing smell of the ocean.
Transportation will be waiting your arrival at the landing, and take you and your luggage to Melrose Plantation, where your peaceful oceanfront cottage awaits you. We are pet friendly so please let us know if you are going to bring your furry friend and we will make the proper accommodations. The four passenger golf cart will be parked at the cottage when you arrive.
Walk in to a place with a magnificent view of the Atlantic that you will find nowhere else on earth. Both doors have been upgraded to electronic code locks for your convenience so you never have to worry about a key while your there!
Each bedroom is the same size with two Queens beds, and full private baths. The bathrooms are large and spacious and include a fairly large tub for a soothing bath. In the open kitchen you are provided with all the necessary pots, pans, plates, glasses and utensils, with plenty of room for your groceries. We do not provide WiFi. There are some networks in the area that may be available.
The screened in porch looking out at the ocean is a relaxing place to spend the evening with a cocktail. The sun rises in the east and is a beautiful sight coming up early in the morning with some fresh coffee.
On the island of Daufuskie the most difficult decision is to walk the quiet, clean beach, read a book on the back porch listening to the ocean, touring the island on your golf cart and seeing the many wild animals, the seasonal Sea Turtle eggs or historic relics from the Civil War. Don't forget horseback riding, game of tennis, or a round of golf at the famous Jack Nicholas golf course might satisfy. Or you could shop at the Silver Dew Pottery or the Gullah and Island Museum or the Community Farm. Maybe even plan your week with fun filled activities from many of the charter fishing, jet skiing, para sailing, or dolphin tours offered in the area.

Three close friends who have a long family history in the lowcountry with a true love for the island of Daufuskie. We want to share the fun experiences of the island with others so please enjoy our place as much as we do!
Jonathan McMullin purchased this cottage in 2012
We rented this place for a fun New Year's weekend. However we returned home on the day of arrival because the listing was not as described. Yes the place was clean inside as it should be. But that is not why we went there. We went to see Daufuskie and experience what the island has to offer. We rented this particular place because it appeared to have a fireplace (romantic and cozy) and a golf cart. Neither of which worked. Even though listed as an amenity, the fireplace is for "decoration" only. (I didn't click in the right place to see that clarification). The golf cart was what was most important so I gave the lack of fireplace a pass. According to the owner, the cart was inspected and operational that morning. Strangely, the person inspecting it left it littered with half-empty bottles, beer tops, and cigarette butts. Even though deemed operational and fully charged, it left us stranded after running for less than 10 minutes and we had to push it off onto the side of the road and walk back to the cottage. This was a deal breaker because you have no car on Daufuskie and no restaurants, stores, etc within walking distance of the cottage. The Melrose Beach Club (advertised on the listing) is closed. Calls and texts to the owner after the cart completely quit working and as of this writing have gone unanswered. I had hoped he would offer to supply another cart or work something out, but he wouldn't call us back. So we called a transport company to take us back to the ferry rather than be stuck at the cottage the entire weekend. This was unacceptable because the whole point of our trip and reason for renting the cottage was that it included a golf cart for exploration of the island.
Also the owner didn't list us with the transportation company who picks you up at the ferry so we had to pay an additional $40 for transport. This fee is supposed to be included in the rental costs according to the transport manager. The transport manager said he hadn't been able to reach the owner to correct the problem.
A spoiled holiday weekend and a disappointing first very brief trip to Daufuskie.
my wife and I had a fabulous time on daufuskie island. the vacation was very relaxing and enjoyable. the cottage was great, with the beach right out of the back door. the owner of the cottage was great to work with. the cottage was clean and all utilities worked fine. we will be planning another trip. the island is not commercialized, with only a handful of restaurants, however it is very quiet and exactly what we were looking for.
thank you mr mcmullin for your hospitality!
-cottage was clean and kitchen was well equipped.
-the car service to and from the house was great, Freddy gave us some great island history and places to go.
-sunrise with coffee on the screened in porch is amazing
-golf cart needs a light if you want to venture out for dinner at night, or perhaps a powerful flash light could work
-Melrose beach club was closed due to bankruptcy. This makes the nearest food options a bit of a drive.
-I would recommend having cards, board games, etc.
The house was exactly as advertised and we were very pleased with the condition and location of the home. A few of the beds were hard and springy and are in need of replacement and the kitchen could use a few more items (i.e. cutting board, pitcher, wine glasses, etc.). Otherwise, the location to the beach was great and the cottage is very close to the Melrose Beach Club. We did have an issue with getting in to the cottage upon arrival because the key code we were given was incorrect and we had no way to contact the property manager. We had to track him down through one of the locals that was able to find out who cleans the house and they were able to give us the correct access code. The property manager was very apologetic and quick to respond once he realized we were having an issue. All in all, we would definitely stay here again and would recommend this place to others (just be sure to confirm the key code and a contact number a day or so before before arrival).
This house is nicely positioned right in front of the beach access. It is clean and comfortable. Everything went smoothly with the transportation from the dock and our van driver Freddie gave us the lay of the land. Jonathan was in constant contact concerning a small hiccup we had and was very helpful and easy to work with. Thank you for all your help. We would stay here again.
