Round-trip ferry reservations available (for a fee) for the weeks of July 15, 22, and Aug 5.
This very private, peaceful retreat is set deep in the woods on 7 acres of rolling hills just a little more than a half-mile from Lambert's Cove Beach. It includes everything you need for a relaxing vacation. Four large bedrooms sleep eight in comfort. The spacious living and dining rooms are divided by a unique three-sided fireplace. A comfortable family room adjoins the fully-equipped kitchen. The wide outdoor deck overlooks a small stream and includes a screened porch (ideal for curling up with a book or sleeping).
This is a beach-lover's paradise. Lambert's Cove beach, one of the most beautiful and quiet beaches on the Island, is available to West Tisbury residents and their guests only. The owner can also provide access to a private, gated beach in Chilmark on the south side of the Island. If you like fresh-water swimming, there are two small ponds, Seth's Pond and Ice House Pond, less than a mile away.
Shopping and the ferry are within a ten-minute drive. The owner, who is a native islander, is happy to provide 'insider information' on the best of Martha's Vineyard.
I am a native Vineyarder and love to share my knowledge and love of the Island. And I love to travel, fish, bicycle, kayak, sail, hike, camp, read, and knit!
Lynne purchased this house in 1972
My late husband and I built this, our family home, in 1972. We raised our four boys here. George passed away in 2007 and I now live elsewhere on the Island.
Above all else, guests describe my house as comfortable and quiet. It immediately feels like home, not a 'rental' property. Many have said their favorite spot is the screened porch, where they enjoy reading, playing card games, and leisurely breakfasts.
Well equipped decent location. Hot tub does not work! Need car to get around.
The house is wonderful and Lynne is a wonderful owner. She answered all questions and greeted us warmly when we arrived. The house was perfect for my husband and myself, 2 married children and my 11 month old grandson. The porch was a perfect place for us all to relax and the house is clean and everything advertised. The beaches are beautiful and all in all we had an excellent week. We will definitely be back!
My husband and I and our 2 dogs had a great, rejuvenating vacation recently at Lynn's house. In a private setting, the house is easily convenient to all up-Island things, and also very easy to get to OB and Edgartown if you desire to travel to the down-island towns. Lynn’s house is very well maintained; the kitchen has absolutely everything one could want for a comfortable stay. The house feels homey, yet offers a lot of room to stretch out. Lynn and her husband built this home and raised their family there, and it’s clear they gave a lot of though to the design and layout. They included a deck, screened porch, and comfy family room, in addition to an expansive “formal” living room. When we arrived, the house was very clean and just welcomed us in. Lynn was very helpful, answering our questions and telling us about the house and environs. As it happened, there was a brief power outage during our vacation and, although the outage was a community issue and had nothing to do with the property itself, Lynn (and her son who lives in the same community) were available to guide us through until NSTAR restored the power a few hours later. (In our view, that’s life on an island- we’ve been vacationing annually on the Vineyard for a couple decades, during which we’ve experienced a hurricane while staying on Chappy and other power outages – for us, such acts of nature are a routine part of island life and should be enjoyed in their own right.) The house is stocked with a good supply of candles/matches. One of the things I most enjoyed during our stay was the breathtaking views from the deck and yard of night stars on clear September evenings. Try sleeping in the cabin across the creek one night for a Thoreau experience :)
Be sure to run up State Road and visit MV Glass Works – you can see the artists blowing glass and they will gladly answer your questions. If you’re on island in Sept/Oct check out their wonderful glass pumpkins. You’ll know they’re blowing pumpkins if you see a hand drawn pumpkin on the open sign out front. And check out Menemsha, including the antique shop just up the side road, next door to Pandora and Menemsha Blues. Polly Hill Arboretum is a pastoral walkabout, with beautiful flowers, trees, etc, no matter what month you visit. Sometimes they have plants for sale.
We certainly hope to return to Lynn’s house.
Our stay here was wonderful and relaxing. The location is great; while the house is secluded, we were able to walk and drive everywhere to see the beauty that Martha's Vineyard has to offer. Lynn is personable and friendly, and offered suggestions of what to see and do during our stay. My husband and I, and our two dogs, absolutely loved both beaches!!
I've now stayed in this house 3 times over as many years, and if I'm vacationing in Martha's Vineyard this is where I look to stay. It's a fantastic deal.
I've stayed at this house for the past two summers for a few weeks with a group of friends. It's a great location and I've been completely satisfied with my visit each time. The location is great - very central and quiet. It's also easy to get to Lambert's Cove Beach - 10 minute walk or a short drive. The house itself is quite private and secluded.
There's plenty of room for parking - definitely need a car here.
Art/Craft and Farmer's Markets, Flea Markets, local theater and dance.
