Country living surprise!
What a fantastic place to visit for our 20th anniversary. My sincere thanks go out to Mr. and Mrs. Gammill for making us feel so welcome. I have never been to Natchez and I live in Mississippi but we plan to go back soon to enjoy the hospitality that Southerners are known for and to enjoy the rich history of the city. Mrs. Gammill provided everything we needed and was so nice. After meeting her and seeing the cottage upon arrival, my wife and I knew we had made a good choice. We enjoyed our chit chats with Mr. and Mrs. Gammill about the historical side of Natchez, especially the history of the cottage and surrounding antebellum homes. This quaint, little hidden treasure is tucked away in a country setting right near downtown. It was a pleasant surprise and just what we needed for a quick weekend getaway. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting some peace and quiet or just to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We look forward to taking the rest of our family later this year if possible. Thank you again Mr. and Mrs. Gammill for your kindness and for allowing me to look over the grounds. May God richly bless you both.
Your kind review is very much appreciated and I really think we are the lucky ones to have the opportunity to meet so many nice folks like you two. And, please share with your wife how much I appreciate how nice and neatly she left the Coop. It was suppose to be your vacation! Our little grandson had such fun looking for treasures with you and he is a regular at our house so it meant a lot to us also...now he has another reason to come see us. I am so glad the vacation was what you two wanted as I know vacations are hard to come by when you are raising children but know you are always welcome at the Coop at any time. Look forward to seeing you again soon.....Jimmy is hiding treasures in the yard! Sending our best to you all!
The Coop is a wonderful little cottage. It is so clean you could probably eat off the floor. Quiet as can be and Britton was a wonderful hostess. I recommend it highly and definitely plan to return to the Chicken Coop.
In addition, Natchez is a great place to visit.
The only thing nicer than my review were my renters! Enjoyed meeting all three of you and so glad that the Coop, the weather, and Natchez were what you were looking for and you are always welcome back at the Coop. I also really appreciate your leaving the rental so orderly. You might want to open your own vacation rental! Keep us on the list and hope to see you all again soon.
Chicken Coop Cottage
Great stay at The Chicken Coop
We truly enjoyed our stay here. It was everything it was represented to be. We loved the privacy and the beautiful surroundings, and the house is really a cozy and comfortable place.
It was our first trip to Natchez. Even though it was rainy and pretty cold, we toured some beautiful homes and had some delicious food. Also took a day trip to Vicksburg. Britton is a wonderful hostess and always available if needed. Will definitely come back here if in the area again.
Thank you for the nice review and thank you for leaving the Coop so neat. And, Jimmy loved the treats and wanted to know where you got them in Natchez! He said they really enjoyed them. You all are troopers as the weather was so bad when you were here that I hope we have a repeat visit. I am going to send you a picture of the Coop when spring breaks. Loved meeting you two and hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable. Will be in touch.
Britton Gammill, The Chicken Coop Cottage
Mom and I had an absolutely perfect stay at this wonderful, charming cottage! Our hosts, Britton and Jimmy, could not have been more delightful! Place was spotless and comfy cozy! We enjoyed the home baked treats, too! The dogs and puppies were just the icing on our perfect stay! Thank you both for being so warm and kind! Hightky recommend!!
We enjoyed having both of you so much and don't think that I have ever found the Coop left so clean and neat which is always appreciated by me. Always please thank your mama for gifting me the nice photo book of antebellum homes in Mississippi. I will share it with other renters. The big dogs have gone for a run with Jimmy and the little dogs are holding the fort down. There is nothing like a puppy, is there! Know you are always welcome back. Natchez is beautiful in the spring of the year so keep us on your list. And, so glad that you all enjoyed your stay.
Couldn't have been better
We were really impressed with how well kept the property was! The home owners were so nice and accommodating and the chicken coop cottage was super clean! We will definitely be back for another stay!!!
Thank you for your nice review and also for leaving the Chicken Coop so neat. You didn't need to wash and dry all of the towels.....I have had a lot of practice so it was a nice surprise to find them clean.
Keep us on your list and hope to see you again soon in Natchez. We are busy getting ready for the big Balloon Race in Natchez now. Come again.
The Chicken Coop Cottage
Your Perfect Natchez Hideaway
I wish I could keep this place a secret. It's that good. A friend and I came to Natchez for a few days and our stay at the Chicken Coop Cottage was wonderful. Britton and James are lovely hosts and after 2 1/2 hours of driving from New Orleans, had cold drinks and fresh cookies waiting for us. (There were more in the freezer.) Britton also provided the ideal recommendation for dinner (Pearl Street Pasta), less than a 10 minute walk away.
The cottage sits on a quiet cul-de-sac in a safe neighborhood. We would walk in the morning and in the evening to downtown Natchez for coffee or dinner. The bedrooms are opposite each other, connected by a jack-and-jill bathroom with two vanities, so there's no competition for counter space. The kitchen is bright and spacious, so if you decide to dine in, there's plenty of prep room. The deck overlooks a lush grass and woods, and if you're lucky, you may see a deer or two. The living room is comfortable, and the Adirondack chairs on the front porch provide a nice place to read or just relax in the shade.
Britton and James take wonderful care of the Chicken Coop. Everything was as described, spotless, and if we needed anything, they were only a text away. Parking is just opposite of the walkway; loading and unloading was easy.
If you prefer to drive, the cottage is less than 5 minutes from the Natchez visitor center, where you can purchase tickets to the several antebellum homes in the area and learn about other nearby activities. We visited Rosalie, Longwood, and Stanton Hall (Day 1); and D'Evereux, Brandon Hall, and Sweet Auburn (Day 2; Fall Pilgrimage). If you visit Sweet Auburn, take 10 minutes to drive across Hwy 61 and see Jefferson College, which was founded in 1802.
If you are not locked into dates for your visit, consider timing your trip to the Spring or Fall Pilgrimage, when privately-owned houses that are closed most of the year open their doors. You can learn more here: http://www.natchezpilgrimage.com/.
You may also want to consider the hot air festival, which takes place in October. Go to http://visitnatchez.org/full-event-calendar/ to learn more.
We started our days at the Natchez Coffee Company or Steampunk Coffee, and recommend both. We took in an evening at the community theater and in addition to Pearl Street, enjoyed great fare at King's Tavern and Fat Mama's (get the Cuban). Planet Thailand and 1818 were fine, but in hindsight would have tried Pig Out BBQ and Cotton Alley instead.
Thank you so much for the lovely and also informative review. It is very helpful to other renters to know what our tourist enjoy and recommend and you all checked out so much of the Natchez attractions. As I mentioned, I also really appreciated your leaving the Chicken Coop so neat. Jimmy said I am a neat freak but you can't have a rental house too clean as far as I am concerned. Our little new born puppies will be moving to their new house in the lower yard next week. They will be missed but they grow up fast and need more room. Hope you had fun in New Orleans and have a safe trip home and even better we hope that you all come again for a Natchez getaway. You are always welcome at the Chicken Coop!
