This Wonderful House was the Original Home of the George Family from the turn of the Century (Circa 1900 - 2010). Straight from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola, the George Family made their mark in this Amazing Fishing Community. The George's were such a devoted Greek Family that when it came time to add on to this wonderful home in the early 1900's... Mr. George actually incoorporated their homeland Greek Flag into the ceiling of what we now call the Family Room. We found this during the renovations when we moved two walls. We have painted it out in the original Greek Blue and Whites as a tribute.
Please Come and Enjoy a taste of the past as you make History and memories for the future with YOUR family and friends at the Beautiful BLUE MOON OF APALACHICOLA.

I am originally from Valdosta, Ga. and David, my husband is from Virginia.
David was on an Historic Florida three day trip when we accidently met in Apalachicola. I had driven from Atlanta and was picking up the keys to what I 'thought' would be my New Home... This Incredible House in Apalach.
After signing the Contract, my closing was not scheduled to take place for months... March of 2010. I suppose timing IS everything. I had to be patient, so as soon as everything was finalized I planned a long weekend trip to pick up Keys and begin planning my restoration.
Our meeting was NO accident! It was a Once in a Blue Moon times two encounter!
Susan & David Morgan purchased this cottage in 2010
The Contract for this new home was finalized and signed between the George Estate and myself on the night of a 'Blue Moon' in December of 2009.
You see, my son, Alex had recently graduated from Law School at UGA and I had been living in Atlanta for almost nine years.
I decided to leave the fast pace life of Buckhead, and was naturally drawn back to return to the vacation lands of my childhood. My parents had been bringing their six children to the beaches of St. George Island and the Five and Dime Store of Apalach since 1968.
As I crested the Bridge of Apalach at sunset, I could see the leaky rooftop of this home full of history, but a home which had laid empty for many years.
You see, the George Family gave birth to nine first generation children here after a young couple made their way from Greece to Ellis Island to Apalachicola Circa 1895 to 1900.
Now in 2010 as the new owner, I decided to stop by the Gibson to join the locals for the traditional Friday gathering. How was I to know a 'tourist' would be there to sweep this Newest Apalach Homeowner off her feet?
Our lives changed and WE are now living on the Elizabeth River in the Tide Water area of Virginia!
David and I are so excited to share this magical place with you. Please know as you enjoy your stay at the Blue Moon of Apalachicola that our hearts are there as well.
We want you to share YOUR Stories and Memories, too. We will work with you as best we can to make your stay a Special Memory of a Lifetime.
Remember, Once 'in' the Blue Moon, You'll want to come back Sooner!

My family and I were due to check into our beach house on St. George Island in an hour and that's when the phone rang; the island was being evacuated and we wouldn't be able to check in until Friday at the earliest. We needed a place to stay and quick and Susan was able to get us two nights at the Blue Moon to ride the storm out, much thanks to her and the crew who cleans and takes care of the place because it was super charming and only enhanced our vacation. We didn't get as many beach days but got to spend some quality time with family and enjoy Apalachicola from walking distance. Great old house with tons of character and Susan was really nice and helpful; without them our trip would have been a disaster. If you want to check out Apalachicola for some oysters or just a drink and some shopping, do yourself a favor and rent a night or two at the Blue Moon; it will be worth it.
I stayed in the Blue Moon for 7 nights in mid-July 2016. The house was perfect for my group of four anglers. We each had our own bedroom. The beds were comfortable, and the A/C worked well. The kitchen had everything we needed. Everything was as described, and the pictures are accurate.
The location was ideal. A block off of all the action in Apalach. You can walk to everything in town within a few minutes. Susan, the owner, was easy to deal with and helpful.
I would certainly stay here again.
This is our second visit to the Blue Moon with the entire family to enjoy Apalach before our week on SGI. We love this town and this house. It is super convenient to all restaurants, churches, and evening entertainment venues - all within walking distance. We only had to drive once - to the Piggly Wiggly.
See you next year, good Lord willing!
This house is even nicer than the photos and the owners were wonderful to work with. The house has everything you need to cook and hang out, great books, games, very comfy beds and couches, etc. It is also in a wonderful location, you can walk pretty much everywhere in town and the beach is a quick easy 15 minute drive away. The river is a block away. There is a lovely little garden in the back and a swing and rockers on the front porch. Susan gave me all kinds of great insider tips about things to see and places to eat. I highly recommend this listing!
Can I start off by saying that Susan the property owner was such a delight to work with. From the very beginning when we had questions she promptly answer them. When my family and I arrived at Blue Moon the lights were turned on, air conditioning turned on, and it was ready for our arrival. Every room has been decorated with such character and beauty. The Blue Moon has everything that you need to function like your own home. Staying at the Blue Moon felt like a vacation in itself. My family and I will definitely be back to stay at the Blue Moon. We left great memories there and I plan to make new memories in the future.
Blue Moon couldn't have been in a better location. We could walk to everything the town has to offer and all the restaurants. The cottage has lots of comfortable sitting areas for relaxing, comfortable beds, and reminded us of Grandma's house but with more modern conveniences. The only drawback was that the two upstairs bedrooms share a "water closet" (toilet & sink). The only two full baths are on the main floor, so upstairs guests must go downstairs to shower. One full bath is in the master bedroom, the other at the foot of the stairs. The stairs leading to the upstairs bedrooms are a bit narrow and curve upward, so oversized luggage (over 21-25 inches) can be difficult to manage up them.
The Blue Moon is only a few steps from Fishing, Boating and Kayak Charters. The Maritime Museum and The Apalachicola Marina are right at your own Front Porch. The Amazing local Restaurants, Hotspots, Shops, Galleries, Museums, Nautical, Fishing, Outdoor, Antique and Novelty Stores surround This Charming Private Home Away from Home.
Hang up your car keys when you arrive. You'll be strolling the waterfront streets with authentic working docks or you'll be bicycling avenues lined with beautiful historic homes dating back to the early 1800's. The Fresh Catch of the Day awaits you at the Dock Fish Markets. The Blue Moon has a Large Dinning Room & Full Kitchen for You to prepare for and entertain Family and Friends. Or You can Relax and let Our Many Featured Local Restaurants Wow you with their Famous Oyster, Shrimp, and Fish favorites at a waterfront table with Majestic Views. The Blue Moon Truly offers You the Most Convenient Private Vantage Point for 'The Best' Apalachicola Experience!
