Karen purchased this House in 1995
Why Karen chose Gloucester
Our location has an incredible and intimate yet panoramic view of Ipswich Bay. The setting of our contemporary home is very private although it is part of a large family estate (complete with rocky shoreline, woods, fields and nature trails), which dates back to the 1860s. Gloucester is known for its beautiful ocean views, artist colonies, quaint villages and local shopping. There are many restaurants, galleries, museums, shops and bakeries to explore along with whale watches, hiking, boating and swimming. In addition, Gloucester is only an hour train ride to the sophisticated city life of Boston and all that it offers. It is easily accessible to other historic New England locales...Rockport, Portsmouth, Kennebunkport, Portland and the Casco Bay Islands, Ogunquit, Acadia National Park, Newburyport/Plum Island, the Mystic Seaport, the Cog Railway, Kancamagus Highway, Stowe, the National Seashore Park on Cape Cod, Provincetown, Providence, etc. Finally, Gloucester is not a sleepy summer resort town; its scenic beauty, active fishing industry and renowned arts community are always humming beneath the surface which makes for a vibrant, eclectic and memorable experience any time of year.
What makes this House unique
We strive to always keep things ship-shape, comfortable and in great working order. We do our best to provide lots of pleasant diversions such as kayaks, paddle boards, beach chairs, umbrellas, beach and yard games, books and board games, every kitchen utensil possibly needed for a joyous gastronomic experience, alongside all the major modern conveniences. Our house is well set up for active people, with two adult kayaks, two child kayaks, two paddle boards, plus many coves and much coastline to discover. The two private beaches are a three minute walk from our door with super easy access for all. One beach has lots of white sand and many areas to investigate, and the other beach is a tidal flat with warm water, perfect for lounging. There are acres of land around the 50+ acre estate which is dotted with houses, a swing set and play area, two tennis courts overlooking the ocean and lots of vantage points to explore, including a pier and an outer island attached by a granite causeway with lots of grassy, beachside trails. We have found that most everyone is delighted with the surroundings because of the openness of the land with its oceanside trails and the tremendous natural beauty it affords, allowing for peace and quiet and as much recreation as desired.

7th time staying at this fabulous house! The views, the beaches and the people make this the highlight of our year! Thank you Karen and family for making your home an unbeatable experience for our family!
A lovely spot.
Just about a perfect location and accomodations for a family with young children...
Easy to love, hard to leave!
My family loves vacationing in this well equipped home where opportunities for adventure and relaxation abound. The natural surroundings inspire all ages, grand children grow in independence, vocabulary and confidence as they explore the shoreline, cove, ocean and surrounding area. Reconnecting is important to our family and we are able to achieve this goal in this place as we play cook and read together and take in all the daily beauty from sunrise to sunset. We are very comfortable here, this was our 5th summer and look forward to repeating next summer.
Fantastic week at Pondover
Celebrated my granddaughter’s first Birthday at Pondover with her cousins, mom, dad, aunt and uncle. We couldn’t be more pleased with accommodations. Beautiful home on an estate with spectacular views of Ipswich Bay. Two great beaches a very short walk from the house. Great yard for the kids. Everything we needed in abundance both in the house and garage (bikes, kayaks, paddle boards, beach chairs & umbrellas, beach toys and a kite!) We hope to go back next year if Karen will have us (I haven’t seen her rating of her guests yet).
Three seasons by the Sea
To say that my family and I enjoyed our time in this wonderful home would be an understatement. This very comfortable house is filled with natural light and you feel immersed in the natural surroundings thanks to large windows and a very spacious deck. The "off" season months offer serenity and privacy while you explore the local trails or visit Rockport and Gloucester Harbor which are both very close. These communities are active year round and offer great restaurants, galleries and many things to do. Karen and Ames are very prompt and accommodating hosts and the property is full of options and equipment for outdoor activities like kayaking, bicycling and enjoying the beach. Everyone who visited us agreed that this is a special place and that we were fortunate to have the opportunity to experience it.
Gloucester at its best
Our 5th year at pondover!
Almost feels like our home!😉
The view, the peace, we love it all!
Can’t wait for next year!
